@stephenmurphy2212 I think they had a difficult time finding actors willing to play him.
The difference of her relationship with Charles... Stiff, proper, strict to a fault... here she is affectionate and tolerant.
The queen actually raised both Andrew and Edward. Since the late Queen Elizabeth took the crown when Charles was 4, she didn't have time to raised him like a real mother would. Once she had Andrew and Edward, she knew the tricks and what was important to attend as Queen. So she managed her mother time better with them.
Do you think it’s perhaps The Crown just perpetuating the narrative that Andrew is her favourite?
I know so little about Her Late Majesty’s inner circle. Prince Andrew has shown himself to be quite a dolt, whereas, King Charles has grown on me over these many decades.
Andrew was her favorite because he was the first to be hers; Charles always belonged to the realm. Charles was raised by the Queen to be a future King; Andrew and Edward were raised by a more settled and balanced Elizabeth as sons.
@@invisible.fatman I appreciated reading your observation concerning the differences in Her Majesty’s relationship between Charles and Andrew.

Fact.
This scene really does a good job of portraying the Queen's relationship with her second son in a series that usually doesn't delve into her younger children's lives. One can see what Elizabeth sees in Andrew: a young, dashing, somewhat cavalier naval officer, not unlike Prince Phillip when she first met him. She's both scandalized and amused by his antics. That's why he was her favourite child, and why she was quite blind to his shorcomings until the very end.
Who says she was blind? She most likely just didn't care because she knew they had enough money to keep anyone in that family out of court, no matter what they did. You think the royal family cares about laws? They're too rich to care about anyone but themselves.
Not unlike prince Phillip? Nonce=shortcomings? 😯

This scene illustrates their relationship very well. He was dashing, chatty, and made her laugh. Some children have the good fortune of developing a relationship with their parents with an element of easy friendship - that's what The Queen and, despite his many failings, Prince Andrew had, and likely why he was her favourite.
Yes, her favourite child is a creepy predator. Says a lot about the late queen.
I do love that his retelling of the movie is exactly what he's been accused of in life.
the intro to this scene is a brilliant moment. Andrew in some mad helicopter, Martin Charteris busy on the phone sorting things out, the Queen Mother out managing the garden despite being nearly 82, Princess Margaret still in bed and of course the Queen doing her usual duties. It suits them all perfectly!
The queens 60th birthday was in 1986 and this would have been before that because Andrew was talking about a girl friend he had before Fergie whom he married in 1986.

Ah, the Queen's favourite predator.. oops I mean, son. This scene is brilliant. They've actually got Andrew to admit to his predatory interest in underage girls.
They were definitely having fun with that scene, but Andrew is barely 21 himself at this time, the actress he's talking about (Koo Stark) is even older, and a 17yo is above the age of consent in England. So they're not having him "admit" anything in this scene.
@@haventesla8648Predator Andrew deserves life in jail.

In this case, the actress Koo Stark was actually 4 years older than him.
All her other children were miserable at their lunches. Andrew was the only one to meet her with a great big grin. She probably felt like he was the only one who liked her at all. He knew how to wrap his "mummy" round his little finger, evidently- shame that the same can be said in real life too, with some nasty consequences...
Yeah, 17-year olds and old predators... You have to remember that the writers of "The Crown" of course already knew about Andrew's "pleasure trips" to the Virgin Islands, the breakdown of Charles and Andrew's marriages and much more. That's why they were able to include so many spicy allusions to later scandals in "The Crown."
Charles and the monarchy were both really lucky that Elizabeth stuck so adamantly to the established line of succession. A less principled mother would have been tempted to replace Charles as crown prince with Andrew - and in light of later scandals, that might have been the end of the monarchy after Elizabeth's death.
This scène reaks of insight

"Favoritism" is highly detrimental and at times morally wrong for any family life be it royal or commoner! It ruins all other relationships within the family! 💔💔 Favoritism leaves the favorite child eventually embroiled in his or her own selfishness and stubbornness and spoiled ways sometimes beyond repairs! Queen Elizabeth in the long run badly raised Andrew. Flying around Windsor Castle was just Andrew being his usual cold, obnoxious self! Charles knew better - he knew he couldn't get away with that and he knew it wasn't the right thing to do! To refer to the simple lunch with his mother as "national security" is a bit of a stretch and cocky. Andrew lacked manners and class since he was a child from what I read about him. We expect different things from different family members maybe it's because we each have our own personalities - even triplets are different. Charles and Andrew were treated differently because Charles was too sensitive for Queen Elizabeth - she liked her men tough and strong (well that would be Andrew). Elizabeth, truly favored Andrew. In the beginning of the video as Andrew and his friend were walking through the gates Andrew throws his pilot helmet at the guard without even looking at the guard!! The guard should have thrown it at the back of Andrew's head! Yes, to knock some sense into him. Andrew doesn't look like Prince Philip nor queen Elizabeth. I'm trying to think of who he closely resembles - I'm not sure what to make of the rumors of Lord Porchester and the queen. Probably time will tell as usual - there are no secrets in the royal family ( so it seems ). When Andrew brings up Koo Stark it does make me want to go back in time to shake him and explain how atrocious his situation with a 17 year old teenager would be!! Most intelligent and caring adults would not use words such as predators and legal and seduce and art work when carelessly describing a 17 year old!! I'm glad the queen stopped the conversation but in real life I think she would have stopped Andrew - if she knew - which I strongly doubt. The queen's "favorite child" got away with far too much. Sad. Very sad. FAVORITISM!
Andrew was the Queen’s favorite. Anne was Prince Philip’s favorite. Edward was the favorite of both the Queen and Prince Philip. Charles was simply left out in the family……
