Raj Vivek The Indian economy depends on weddings? I sure hope this isn't true. SImply because it's just sad. rather than depending on jobs and other sensible incomes that ought to boost our GDP we would be in a constraint of depending on weddings. Sigh.

What they projected is possibly a North Indian wedding. A lot of Indians in the UK are North Indians.
There is a variety of ways Indian weddings are done based on the region of India you come from.
North Indian weddings are flashy. A lot of others are not.

India is a mix of a lot of cultures. The Idea of Indian Weddings that British people have(and also these two guests have) is actually a Panjabi Wedding, which is just one state of India. Specially that Drinking and being fleshy part it's panjabi.
I saw the video for the first time here.. and it was soo cool..and I don't agree with those people who say it ain't common anymore, about the arranged marriage part, its the exact same shit thaz going around here. Also about the spending on marriages.. u r absolutely correct. We are obsessed with showing off!!. Loved the video and reactions as well.

most Indian weddings aren't that long. Christian Indian weddings are actually really short, comparatively.
Depends.. my christian friend also had sangeet, mehandi, haldi etc and a post wedding reception. It all depends where you're from and how muvh you wish to do.

yes, it's subtle, underneath and at the same time it's all out in the open.
it's because most indian marriages are arrange so the all the cost, gifts, jewelry is , i mean dowry is bore by the girl's parents and that's not a choice it's forced otherwise the girl would not have a good life in her marital home.
Sabh Restman how can I tell that. Don't take it on heart. there was no need of personal example. I don't know what world you live in. You can understand the context because you know that these things happen in our culture. There are still so many I shall say majority of people who expects dowry and believe in misogyny. Your brother paying for his wedding is not the criteria. I am sure he has taken care of his side of expenses and if all the expenses then that is good too, there was no need to mention it. The Girls family is doing that since ages and there is no big deal if your brother has decided to bear expenses for his marriage. Why mention and ruin it. I am talking about the wedding expenses and later money and gifts on name of festivals in our popular culture bore by the bride's family.
