I can see using parts of this in a steampunk jungle adventure!

I’ve been tempted to run it as a pulp 1930s Call of Cthulhu adventure!

Thanks for this review. I really do appreciate it. Ton of good points and some great commentary. Our hobby needs more constructive criticism like this. 💯

Awesome video JC, I really enjoyed it. You should play and do a review of Cage of Delirium. I would love to see how you approached it

I am my mid 70’s , love GURPS 3rd. Been playing from 1980’s.
Run all the player, now looking at SOLO
    I seen your free GURPS 4th . I looking change to 3rd.

Should be simple to convert to 3E - just a few point totals that will be off really.

I backed this on KS. I liked some of this book ideas (especially the mushroom dungeon) but it lacks many elements to be playable from the book.
It severly lacks an hexmap. Compared to a classic jungle dungeon like C1 Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan it lacks handouts. It's a shame because the narrative of the mummy bride is more coherent. I'd like to be be able to show a fresco to my players to introduce the different gods (like the foreshadowing in Saylor of the starless sea). Most of the art is either cartography or monsters. I'd like some setpiece like in room 5 has no picture when you have to introduce 4 gods.
I like your video. I have the same thougts and you did a good job at formulating a judgment.
It's great you took the ghoul encounter as an exemple. RAW it's just not fun. But the idea of a ghoul ambush is awesome.
The maps are aweomse. The read aloud are too long. The abuse of unsolicited DC checks (like the DC 15 ARCANA check p32) and lack of dice chain mechanics prevent me from considering this a good DCC conversion. The monster flavour and concept are awesome (swarm of crawling claws !!!).
I indeed went from backing the KS to purchase and adapt C1 hidden shrine of Tamoachan for Hyperborea.
The rooms of C1 are much more interconnected. For me it's much easier to keep a mental layout of C1 than the mummy tomb.

Agree with a lot of what you are saying. I have only run this one as the main Mummy Bride adventure, but the lack of a overland hex map would have made my life harder as a GM if I wanted to turn it more into an extended campaign ala Isle of Dread. Definitely could have used some more handouts, although like I said, I think a lot of the mythology in the book is really just flavor text - but wow it comes across as way more important than that when you first start reading the book!

    Great stuff!
BTW, DCC enjoys killing its characters, not players. :)

Uh oh. I must be playing wrong :-p

In 5e for a party level 5 to 7 like suggested in the cover, the Mummy Bride is weak.
Action economy in 5e is a HUGE problem and the final boss really needed Lair actions and Legendary actions to be as lethal as in DCC.
Otherwise a paladin level 6 will just Divine Smite her to oblivion

Yes thanks for pointing this out. I’ve seen a lot of ports from DCC to 5E have this issue with bosses.
