the kind of music i would enjoy hearing in the background whilst half asleep in a hammock on a late summer evening
0:02 - 1st movement - Moderato quasi marcia
4:09 - 2nd movement - Tempo di minuet - Trio. Presto
10:08 - 3rd movement - Andante con moto
18:04 - 4th movement - Finale: Allegro molto
A simply brilliant piece performed brilliantly. When I hear this piece so well played, I find it an unsurpassed masterpiece of western chamber music that is all too infrequently performed. I can only hope that when I was lucky enough to perform it as a bass player ( several times) we approached this level of playing. Bravo!
Enchanting piece of Dvorak. Michael Collins on form as ever - surely the best.
There is a lot of sunshine in this music
A delightful performance indeed.
Many thanks for the performers and of course Dvorak who is a fabulous composer.
I think Dvorak continues to be underrated. What a master of pure melodic joy! Have you heard Song to the Moon? Sublime.
Dvorak's influence on 20th-century music is underrated too. I've been unable to avoid listening to Florence Price over the past couple of years because she has been rediscovered. If you don't hear Dvorak in Florence Price, you're not listening!
Anyway, Dvorak is very, very high on my list: in particular Symphs. 7-9, the unbelievable cello concerto, and there's also so much distinctive chamber music. I guess he was overshadowed by Brahms (and the two greatly respected one another). No matter, I know that I love to listen to his music. Never a kitschy moment, never a cheap trick.
I have to agree. Some of his work is right up there!
The oboe is gorgeous!
Beautiful piece. I always forget what a lovely composer Dvorak is.
A very big piece of music perfromed with the grace and beauty that only Dvorak knows how to draw out of his interpreters.
Superb performance. Great collaboration too. Heart warming stuff
I love playing this. Its beautiful yet has a raw earthiness where you can just go for it!
Very few hackneyed rhythms here, just unusual strength, delicacy and sprightliness from all the instruments. My gratitude to Dvorak, the London Winds and RNO. I have new respect for the oboe!
Stor takk til mr.Collins og
Feeling ancient. I remember Collins as a young teenager!!!
Отличное исполнение редко звучащей прекрасной музыки. Получил огромное удовольствие!
Beautiful, lively performance!
I'm playing a bari sax part of this for an ISSMA ensemble, and its absolutely beautiful! I hope I can do it justice!
Beautiful playing!! English woodwind playing at its best,
Brynjar Hoff
Dvorak wrote some of the most beautiful melodies ever. He was a master. I'm sorry that I did not appreciate that fact until my relatively old age.
my favourite melodist
I agree with you and all of the repliers. I, too, waited until a relatively old age to truly appreciate Dvorak. But, it has been more than worth it.
fantastico. bravo ! gracias ...
Magnificent performance
Preciosa euforia llena de gratosacentos y de alegria
Fascinating !
Stellar job!
Its love from Dvorak to you!
Really enjoyed this! :-)
enjoyed
Bravo
bravo
BILIKALIEPNI !!!
👍
Place my ear next to the end of the oboe
I agree. That oboist is really special. He and Michael are a great team, and I'm sure that Dvorak is loving this.
Been there: hearing loss a likely result.
Change the oboe to a renaissance shawm!
@@steveschwieterman9109 Just let me sit directly on stage and be fully immersed in the sound. Just wonderful!
Is it just me or the 3rd movt. sounds like a toned-down/classically arranged samba 🤔 The 1-5 bass line, the syncopation.. 😂
Dvorak been ahead of his time lol
oui i like but very sweet
Quick question to everyone - what instrument is the principal horn playing? At first glance it looks like an Alex, but isn't quite. Thanks in advance for letting me know.

Dvorak wrote an enchanting serenade for wind instruments; however, this performance left me underwhelmed. Precisely, there were too many problems with intonation.
I do not like so much the very beginning of this serenade for winds. It is rather a military march than a serenade! Fortunately, the second theme is much more mellow, anr the other movements of the serenade are quite in line with the spirit of such a composition.
This composition is ridiculous...
