The play/movie "My Sister Eileen" was turned a hit musical called "Wonderful Town", still done today. Columbia Pictures refused to meet the financial terms, and offered this instead.
Why not, since they already owned the film rights to the source material?

@@Twentythousandlps That's why Judy left the film. They weren't using the material by her old friends and colleagues Bernstein, Comden and Green. Oh, what might have been!
What strikes me in the trailer, is we never get a clear look at Eileen--these clips focus most clearly on Betty Garrett--hopefully will get to see it one day!
