Peter Schmeichel (Goalkeeper) scores overhead kick in last minute.

- With a rare defeat looming for the 1997 Manchester United team, Peter Schmeichel came sprinting up the field for a last minute corner. Having scored against Rotor Volgograd he once again came into the box in the hope of rescuing the FA Cup 4th round replay. With the ball coming towards him and facing the other way from the goal he improvised, hitting a sweet overhead kick into the bottom corner...only to be (rightly) called offside. Unfortunately for him what would have been one of the greatest goals by a keeper.

Fair play to Schmeichel. For a keeper, being flagged offside is even more impressive than scoring a goal.
rispekt
Respectaaa!
Hahahaha quality

Absolute Legend simply the greatest keeper of my generation.
greatest keeper of all times ( Peter Schmeichel )
RC TRUCKING UK scotty555babe he knew he was up side he has admitted to it.. and thats why he ran back hoping no call offside.. but wouldent work today but he was the best but hes son will surpass him.. allready made himself more expensive after croatia loss with all saves and a score on 3-2 with team with 8-2 after wards.Peter had the Better phrame but Kasper the genepool and also did hand Ball to be a better goalie.I see him go to spain or Italy after England.though Peter kept loyal but was the best and All knew it
Kasper (his son) did so amazingly in this world cup.
They Both played for Man City as well as Man u for a short period as well Kasper helped to win a derby 1-0 in 2007
His son won fa cup too and good performance at euros 2020
@@dylanng8448 even prem
one of the things i love about his multiple goals is each time he put his hand up and then ran back to his goal...just very professional and very classy
He ran back because it was offside lol
Wimbledon fan here - I absolutely shit myself when he put it in the net.
+Alan Peach I am United fan also and I second that mate!
Same here, agree on both
John Doe So your an AFC Wimbledon fan now?
RIP AFC Wimbledon
John Doe I thought you meant tennis for a minute!
Which pixel is he?
U blind
The very yellow one
The one who scores. Put your own video up if you have one of better quality.
You kids don’t know the struggle. Privileged lol
Schmeicel is a big lad. 6'4 and at the time around 200lb, for that agility - offside or not, a great manouevre and the best ever goalkeeper for Manchester united (not just for this strike by the way).
schmeichel. One reason. Honesty. When he made a mistke to give a second goal at home to Bayern Munich in 99, he went on camera and admitted it. Van Der Sar is good but he is no schmeicel.
What strike it came off his head
mystery man you should visit the opticians.
I won't forget that man as long as I live!!!
After Peter Schmeichel... you have probably not seen any GK made saves and having the charisma like him...
Look at how he saves the ball, he hold them tightly in his hand...
Always my HERO for a GK!
......beautiful goal.....Peter forever!!!......
Ridiculously skilled finish for a goalkeeper. You see keepers scoring from time to time, but it's never like this.
By far in my opinion best ever goal keeper to play in the English League
He's a fucking boss. Best Goalkeeper we ever had
Both are great goalkeepers Peter and Kasper , cant see often that kind of Father and Son 🙌
They should let goalkeepers be immune from the offside system, I mean they're risking a lot to be on the other goalkeeping area
Technically goalkeepers still are players only that they can use their hands to hold the ball in their own area. But the idea does sound interesting.
there not really risking anything. The keeper will only go to the other keeping area if they are loosing in the last minute e.g. 1-0 down in the 90th min. The worst that could happen is the other team counters and they loose 2-0 instead of 1-0. You will only ever see the keeper do this if they are loosing in the last min
Hmm.. That would mean no offside traps though.
James Actually, if goalkeepers were immune from offsides then some teams might develop some kind of extreme total football which would allow them to goal-poach. It's a fascinating concept, although it would be a nightmare to referee.
goalkeepers should be allowed to handle the ball in the other team's goal
Wow. Crazy. I looked him up because Iker Casillas played against him 16 years ago, and his son today. When I was on his page I saw he had 9 career goals!
left out the offside part to get more views i guess.
It says in the description
@@connorclayton4692 not in the title, but that's ok
It says it in the commentary too
I'm back again, 2020... knowing it's a fake goal.. minus 1 view.
Good
absolute legend Number 1 MUFC
Best Goal keeper ive ever seen from a Liverpool too
that was a quality striker finish! and that actually came from a goalkeeper! wow!
First comment
Can remember a few years back watching his son play for Notts County and he nearly did the exact same thing as his dad from the edge of the box, but it hit the crossbar and went out..
absolute legend
the best goalkeeper on this earth
He has scored so many goals great goalie
I love how he just jogs back looking like he does that everyday.
Best keeper I've ever seen with out a double
I'm from Denmark, and in my eyes, Schmeichel is a legend!!! My bigbrother has his autograph...
His influence is very apparent in the modern game: no goalkeepers were doing the 'starfish' spread, one-on-one, before Schmeichel (he brought it from keeping goal in the sport of handball, when he was younger).
Now, it's standard.
I was 12. This play is burned in my mind.
Bendtner taught him everything he knew.
FC Tam Them baits...😂
Happy birthday you legend!
I remember watching this as a kid when i was a big man u fan. This game was in the Champions League, or the FA Cup or something and they needed to score bad. This goal is one of my favorite sports moments, even though it didn't count.
contactkeithstack if you were a big manutd fan you'd know that it's impossible for manutd to play Wimbledon in the champions league, you gobshite.
when he was a kid he was a striker i think.. he played out in the field as young, i think thats why his such a good keeper, he got a good vission of what is about to happen! Denmark for the win!
Absolute Legend 💯
legend! coming from a liverpool fan btw...
Best keeper of all time!
Shame he was offside. What a goal... Especially by a GK... Even if he is the greatest ever!
Great quality!! -_-
One of the greatest nights of my life!! Marcus Gayle's goal.......up there with the birth of my children!!
What a legend!
It does. The keeper is the same as all other players on the pitch. The difference is that is he designated to hold the ball in his teams penalty area.
Always liked that purple gk kit, my cousin had it back in the day
Oh wow I just watched it that is awesome!
he was legendary
LEGENDE!!!!!!!!!!!
If I was ref, i wouldnt disallow the goal because it was so beautifull!
WEHEY AND THEY THOUGHT THEY SCORED!!! was the scoreboards reaction to the goal lol. in all seriousness, it would have been a good goal, but as an old wimbledon fan, very glad it was offside. this was the best game i ever went to
you know when you are getting old when a video of Peter Schmeichel has to have goalkeeper in the title.
Schmeichel, goalkeeper and striker
WHAT a finish.
this would have been the sickest goal ever by a keeper
DUDE THE COMMENTATOR SAID IT WAS OFSIDE BUT STILL BEAUTIFUL
This guy was just something else. I remember when I was 8 having his GK top, and thinking he was the only goalkeeper that made goalkeepers cool.
Legend
possibly the best goal there never was
Was sitting at the far end opposite this goal, as a United supporter amongst a SEA of Don's supporters.
Me and my friend went absolutely nuts when this happened, had no sense it was off side of course.....and then when it was ruled out the entire stand was pointing and screaming all kinds of shit at us. Ha ha.
Deservedly so of course......but man, what a moment, as I swear we were the only United fans in that entire stand.
Amazing
Best keeper ever
What a goal
I was at this match. The "goal" was disallowed as he was offside. He's offside because the ball was headed forward to him after the original goal kick.
You can tell it wasn't a goal because no-one celebrated.
This was the first football match i ever went to.
@MMAC0RE actually Rica Raducanu an romanian goalkeeper was the first goalkeeper to be offside.I suppose Schmeichel was the second...
great goal ,
Well played
Peter Schmeichel - Born in Søborggård parish, Gladsaxe, Denmark to a Polish father and a Danish mother, Peter Schmeichel held Polish citizenship until 1970 when he, his father, and his siblings became Danish citizens.
I was at this game at Selhurst..it was brilliant. Wimbledon went through though.
This doesn't get the respect it deserves. Doesn't matter If it's offside. But took that like a champ
I have to agree, but Seaman was also in the invincibles the year before this. can't deny Schmeichel was one of the great English keepers though, perhaps on par with the great Gordon Banks?
*Schmeicle is the purple pixel
@watka89 do you no the trevor sinclair goal he was talking about? its the best overhead kick you'll ever see, truly amazing!
CLASS
Peter Schmeichel - Must be the only keeper ever to be caught offside
legend
@Jakimobob
and how much longer had schmiechel been at united than torres hasbeen at chelsea?
this was against wimbledon - i was glad we won but looking back i feel a bit bad now
@TrickEOfficial Yeah that's true, it is very rare or on the odd occasion that goalkeepers score all the time
0:22 "Trevor Sinclair eat your heart out".
I'm off on a youtube journey starting with "Trevor Sinclair volley"
the best player from denmark in my mind.
i support liverpool but, jeezus that was a brilliant goal
they should drop the offside rule just to make this goal count :)
Schmeichel forever!
O desimpedidos me fez procurar pra saber se era verdade mesmo kkkkk
@MMAC0RE Nope...google it for the Romanian goal-keeper Rica Raducanu...He is the first one who's been caught in offside..He played for Rapid Bucharest in the '70's
peter legend
haha i love how you worked that out as you typed. I do that.
@askeaaa Where do you think they get the FIFA commentators from
Like a Boss
i was at this game and united were so rattled it was untrue. every time united missed a pass or even when schmeichel missed the backpass and almost let the ball in the net, even the scoreboard flashed up "WEHEY". and after this goal for those there must remember "WEHEY!!! AND THEY THOUGHT THEY SCORED" lol
@EmerGeFlare since when did pre season goals count..?
Schmeichel 450 Appearances; 189 Cleansheet. 42% Cleansheet Rate, 1 goal.
The clickbait is unreal
I was at that game, jumped out my seat then saw it was offside :(
Peter Shmeichel Just left the chat
@PyschedelicApe
so...ur saying a goalie being moved to a strikers position, outfield, no gloves, just playing as a striker and getting caught offside is the same as peter schmeichel running up the entire length of the pitch for a corner and being caught offside?
im not talking about this one there's actually 10 other goals by schmeichel and 740 appearances
Listen to the commentary. It was given as offside.
Schmeichel was the best English keeper for so long. Never understood why he didn't get his game for England ahead of Seaman. I guess its cos Seaman is the Prime Ministers brother.
@Jakimobob it's amazing, he has scored 11 goals in his career :P
"trevor sinclair eat your heart out"
what the fuck andy? what the actual fuck? That Sinclair Overhead was out of this world. And outside the 18yd box.
He is THE GREAT DANE!
Schmeichel was my idol as a child!
EDIT: Now hopefully spelled right :o
I'm surprised you didn't learn how to spell your idol's name.
@@AvailableHandle Because I never really had to spell his name and this was before the internet boom so communication was mostly oral, but it wasnt like I had posters or anything, true.
