- I went to Guayaquil, Ecuador. I woke up, went to an iguana park, walked to a cemetery, tried authentic Ecuadorian food, stared at a chandelier, and had a bottle of wine. Enjoy!

You should visit Cuenca next time, is a beautiful city and it’s 2 hours away from Guayaquil. Guayaquil is a total chaos and maybe because of the weather people are crazy and rude sometimes, I’m sorry you had a bad experience.
Your experience is very unique. I am from Ecuador. The perception you had of my hometown Guayaquil is valid. It is what it is. I would say just give it another try.
I would be open to getting a locals guide to the city!

Hi, I'm from Ecuador and what I can say is we(ecuadorians) are kinda serious, sometimes we are fun and sometimes we get sad and angry about everything. It's part od our culture, it's not because of political situation. I dunno why we are like that, but we are not bad ppl. I hope you visit to cuenca and Quito.

you went to Colombia but not Medellin or Bogota and Ecuador but not the mountain towns. Interesting choices for each country. Especially Guayaguil. I hope you give South America another try. Just pick better places

The political-economic situation in Ecuador it's not the best, this has a strong influencce in the people moral. I know that 'cause I'm brazilian, and the last 6 years here it was the hell; just since last month, with the election of a new president, the people turn to smile more and be hopeful. Once that you are more traveler than tourist, your perception is more sensitive and personal. It's sad but you will need to get used to these reality clashes like part of the process. 😔
