    About Us:
    Cover Your Pergola is the number-one pergola cover company in the whole United States. We’ve been installing patio covers since 2004 and have locations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Miami. However, we do ship covers across the entire country.
    We offer two types of pergola covers - The Apollo and Hercules. Each is fully transparent and can be ordered to size. Apollo is our starter patio cover, consisting of a polycarbonate twin-wall and H-connector at the seams. Whereas the more-premium Hercules features a quadruple-wall polycarbonate with standing-seam orientation. Both systems block 100 percent of UV rays, come in a variety of colors (bronze, clear, and ice white), and are virtually leakproof.
    Our CZcams channel is a place to connect with other pergola cover enthusiasts. Videos we create cover patio cover installation how-to’s, pergola roof ideas, system reviews, and a whole lot more! Be sure to subscribe to our channel to be the first to know when we upload a new video.

    Why did you not use flashing at the top edge, under the Poly, to protect the exposed wood -- same at the bottom to cover wood and extend over the gutter as a drip edge? Why did you not caulk along the 16' side that butts up to the house wall to prevent water intrusion that will be trapped between the wood rafter and the siding which will promote rotting and eventual failure of rafter and siding? Also, with so few screws attaching the panels, how do the panels resist wind uplift, especially in areas prone to high winds and hurricanes?

    • @CoverYourPergola
      @CoverYourPergola  Před rokem

      You are correct sir! In this case, the slope is more than recommended so there's no chance for water to sit there. In other cases, we recommend overhanging 3" on the front and back sides so water drops straight down and not back on the wood. We always recommend flashing but it's homeowner decision and some just don't like the look. Covers are rated for 125 mph winds.

    • @gq4u85
      @gq4u85 Před rokem +3

      @@CoverYourPergola at the 13:01 mark in the video the panel is attached and the wood-purlin edge is partially exposed with no flashing. There should be an approved flashing that extends across the top and down the exposed edge of the purlin because any wood exposed to water will rot over time. Same applies along the gutter edge. Flashing at top & bottom edges would not show from below so the homeowner would have no reason to object to it. By the way, never let a homeowner make any decision that undermines professional standards & work ethics.
      The 13:01 video mark also shows the poly-sheet butted to the exterior horizontal siding without any reference as to how you prevented water intrusion from entering the space between the siding & rafter. Was the rafter foamed or caulked prior to placing the poly-sheet? Was the poly-sheet foamed or caulked after it was secured in place? Nothing is shown or mentioned regarding how you dealt with this. If nothing was done, then it was done wrong.
      So, telling me what you would normally do, or what the homeowner wants you to do, does not answer my questions and sounds very much like passing the buck... aka; Making Excuses for doing something incorrectly. You should return to this job and fix it and let your subscribers know in a follow-up video. By doing so you will earn the respect of the homeowner & your subscribers. IMHO!!! Thank you for replying

    so instead of cutting the middle sheet once you cut the outter sheets twice? and you used a saw instead of a corroclaw blade which makes no mess and is faster? amatures. or you could of just of left a few inches overhang to protect that outer board a bit. and not cut at all. you could of easily shaved .5 to 1 hr off the job.

    Appreciated the informative video. Didn't appreciate the repetitive music clip that played during the breaks whenever nobody was talking, and got progressively more annoying. Wondering why you didn't seal the place where the poly meets up with the vinyl siding. Seems like if someone is sitting in an outside chair backed up to the wall, they'll get spritzed with some icy freezing rains down their back, when the whole point of covering the pergola is to shield people from rain and such. Also noticed a door so when you walk thorugh it, there's a chance of getting spritzed there too.

      Sorry - misunderstood you! Flashing is always recommended when any part of the pergola butts up to a house but there are situations where you can just use silicone. It's also up to the customer too. Some people don't like the look of flashing but it really is the best option.

      That isn't possible for any contractor to justify. I just bought 3 panels at 4x12 with the U and H trim and the tape, plus screws and clear silicone. I spent about $800 Canadian. For your 12x16 roof, add one more 4x12 panel and another H trim and you would be at $1,000 Canadian. So they are trying to bill you $9,000 for the labour? I will admit, the first time doing this is a bit of a challenge, but it is by no means an insurmountable DIY job. Even if you have to buy a decent ladder (which you will appreciate having in the future anyway), a drill and a cheap bit set, and a cheaper circular saw with a decent high tooth count blade, you are still well under $2,000 to do this yourself.

      @ronlaverdiere Před 3 lety

      If installed with the UV protected layer facing up (as they specified in the video) then it is good for at least 10 years, as the warranty implies. Tempered glass is far heavier and not as impact resistant. You also need the tempered glass to be made at the exact size you need because a DIY'er cannot cut tempered glass. The poly roof is a DIY project that would cost about $800 for this pergola roof. The same thing in tempered glass would probably be over $5,000 depending on the contractor that does the work.
