    I stopped taking a tomahawk with me when I hunt and I take this now. Use it to clear brush on shooting lanes, make fires, make a covering/blind and to field dress deer. I've cut through 9 deer pelvises and rib cages (because I disembowel from ass to clavicle). It still has the factory edge and is almost as sharp as the day I got it. Love it.

    I ordered one of these, and the site I ordered it from sent me 2 for some reason. So now I can dual wield these badboys when I'm trimming the bushes around my porch, lol. Just call me Yard Work Riddick

  • @perplexingperceptions8888

    I like how it can be used for yard work, survival tasks to some degree, & self defense. I'm going to buy one when I see them in stock.

    It is for self defense. Light weight and not too long. Cheap enough so everyone in the family can carry one. Chopping through the Amazon is a secondary function.

    These cold steel machetes are excellent for borrowing out to non-knife people, they look impressive to them and they are not junk so perform good enough but they are low priced so you don't get upset when they come back all dinged up and have rust spots.

  • @Imakebootysclap
    @Imakebootysclap Před 5 lety +2

    some of these gimmick hybrid weapon machetes are pretty useful for hiking because you can clear a path but also feel a bit more combat effective in a pinch vs a standard machete shape.

  • @davidcarson7855
    @davidcarson7855 Před 5 lety +3

    I have the Smatchet variant and like it, also part of the reason for machetes being softer to make them harder to shatter or chip which will happen if the steel is too hard

  • @mannylieberman2574
    @mannylieberman2574 Před rokem

    I really enjoy my machetes. Have quite a few. They range in price from $3 for a cheaply made ill fitting wood-handled Chinese clunker (that still actually works) to some pricey Condors and TOPS at around the $200 price point.Cold Steel's Bowie Machete remains one of my favorite. The weight and size make it perfect to take camping. Wouldn't do food prep because of the coating. Wouldn't chop with it because it isn't weighty enough. And even though you demonstrated it perfectly I would not baton for fear of damaging the relatively thin blade. Every other knife or machete task this thing definitely does pretty well. I put an edge on mine that would make any knife lover proud, though it arrived admittedly sharper than the average machete. On a side note mine was on back order. Took about four months to arrive. Just before it did the company I ordered from asked me if I still wanted it since it's been so long and told me it won't come with a sheath since Cold Steel didn't send any. Came with a cardboard covering. I said yes. Had lots of other sheaths that would have fit it. About six weeks later, unasked for and unprompted, they sent the sheath that Cold Steel finally sent them. Yeah I paid for it anyway, but they didn't have to send it and pay extra postage when I already agreed to the cardboard "sheath". This company was Knife Center if you don't mind me saying.

    Marbles' quality isn't what it once was. My grandpa gave me a Marbles knife from the 1920s, still solid and useable. Their newer knives generally don't have anything resembling that longevity.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  Před 5 lety +2

      Very true. Their machetes are okay, made in El Salvador, but most of their knives are now China imports.

    So it's the bowie machete with the smatchet's handle. Fair enough. Looks like a good little blade.

  • @bubba7626

    I have an Esee Junglas, an RMJ Kukri, an RMJ Wayvern, a Bark River Shining Mountain Bowie, The Ontario Marine Raider Bowie, Tramontina and Condor Machetes, and many more - too many more big blades I don't need LOL. But seriously this Cold Steel Black Bear Bowie in machete 1055 steel is tough easy to sharpen, fast in hand, hits way above its weight class. (I have batoned it through knotty wood) For me I see it as a belt survival one tool option knife. Example - you lose all your other chosen stuff for some reason on an expedition but you have this on your belt because its light and you have a pistol, a leatherman etc on your belt as well. Thats were this shines IMHO a survival blade - even better than the others I have listed above, at least for my area were the southwest desert cacti and pine forests come together. This blade along with a Mora bushcraft black, CS Shovel, Silky saw, and a Leatherman Surge would be my chosen 5 tool combo for a living off the land, end of days WROL scenario.. LOL

    One of my first thoughts was that it ought to be quite perfect for cutting snow blocks for an igloo. With the cross guard and big handle and the point+sheath it is better than an insulation knife for that, though they are cheaper and in stainless steel.

    Academically speaking you could also probably hack somebody's arm off with it, say in a self defense situation maybe they already shot you or stabbed you. Then you could probably hack their arm off academically speaking, of course. You could also probably open some mail or packages with it as long as you are careful and do it in an academic way.

    I am so Happy I decided to get one. If Jim Bowie was alive today, he would fall in love with this monster of a knife!! Not only is this Bowie battle ready and capable, but it's made with good high carbon, heat treated steel. That's what I wanted in a big Bowie, plus it's very affordable, made in South Africa, not China. Don't let the thin blade turn you off, that's why it's made with 1055 steel. It's light enough to hack shit all day with it and abuse the hell out of it like a 15 year old girl!!! And she will still love you at the end of the day!!!
