They got lots of airtime in the NWOBHM era and were influential for other bigger bands too. When this song came out, Maiden was in it's Paul Di'Anno era and I actually saw Maiden on their Killer tour the next year, before that new guy took over on vocals. But in the end, the question 'why didn't this band do more' is almost always the same - material/writing.
Holy shit the vocalist is insanely talented. Sing while play a lead guitar line is stupidly hard,I mean how the hell he could perform a cool voice and epic guitar solo at the same time
I got my hair cut straight across like the lead singer when i was a freshman in high school around 2009. The hair cutter lady said "you know youll look like a little girl right?" I just ignored her and then told her to cut it as i said
Tone Thicc You do you bro 🤘🏼😈. I hade a pink Spider-Man backpack in second grade and people would try to heckle, but I was just too damn stoked on my Spider-Man backpack to give a shit lol.
@@RowdyGrunt Well there a lot of horror stories of bands getting f’d over by their management. Black Sabbath was famously one such case in the 70s, Once they found out they were getting royally screwed (out of royalties) they fired their corrupt manager. The ensuing indulgence of liquor and drugs without the oversight of a manager contributed to the band’s eventual downturn and the firing of Ozzy in 1979.
That first line-up from the debut was absolutely killer. Kevin has always been the soul of the band, but I want to say how much I appreciate the bass playing of Kevin Riddles, and Dave Hogg's drumming. Laying down the low end and rhythm with power!
For those who haven't heard it the debut album is a masterpiece, easily one of my top 5 albums of all time. Heavy, catchy, tight and sang fantastically. Check it out
Nobody else can see you the same way as myself Fly high and touch the sky, you're the angel I adore If only you could feel for me that I feel for you Why do you ignore me, angel, why can't I go with you You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch The more love I feel for you, the more you fade away Why can't you come and love me, do I have to stay this way I'm going to go insane if nothing happens soon I look out at the night to see your shadow by the moon You're an angel witch, you're angel witch You're an angel witch, you're angel witch Walk through the forest I can feel that you're there Why do you run away? Great memories of the Ruskin Arms pub in East Ham London, where you could hear Angel Witch in their full glory. Even recall the time they cleared the music bar because all the smoke effects went off in one hit. Fantastic times.
That intro riff is the golden standard. Rest of the song is nice and fun to cover and a wicked song, but that intro riff just eats fretting fingers. Heybourne is criminally underrated!
I think Dave Mustaine has always been a big fan of them. He wears Angel witch shirt in magazine cover, I think its Metal hammer or Decibel , cant remember though.
@muzuhope4206 Quote: "His riffing reminds me of Dave mustaines riffs". Almost right, but what you mean is that Dave Mustaine's riffs remind you of Kevin Heybourne's riffs, a fact that Dave would be the first to acknowledge, as would the guys in Metallica.
I saw them way back , at the Dutch House on the Sidcup bypass 1978 when they were still a four piece. They had strobes and flash bombs , really impressive.
A gang of us followed these all over N London/Herts in 79/80. One of my mates girlfriends was so thick we used to sing 'You're a dozy bitch, You're a dozy bitch!' at her, the poor mare. Horrible lot we were!
You guys were my favourite heavy metal band I used to go to the beehive in edgeware to see you and everywhere else I could get to …I was 16 years old and london was the Center of the Universe
😊"Skids" @2:30 doing the classic "I can't hear you" gesture on a playback video - Angel Witch may not have conquered the world, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Kudos to you, Dave, for being there and providing the backbeat to what many metalheads consider the NWOBHM's finest album. I hope you still get the occasional call from Kevin, maybe even an invite to sit in on a number at one of the festival shows. 👍👏✌️
A friend and I were kicked out of class once in the 9th grade for singing this in class. The teacher actually thought we were singing it about her.
Aaron W ahaahahaha
hahahaha
Imagine what would happen if they were singing White Witch
Lol
😂😂😂
One of the most catchy tunes from the 80s.
MetalJesusRocks I agree. This one and Wall of Sound.
MetalJesusRocks their clothes are the shit too!
Indeed. Pretty rockin'.
MetalJesusRocks the whole album is super underrated! Every track is killer!
MetalJesus
I would ask "what are you doing here"
But honestly I'm not surprised haha
One of the greatest metal tracks in history for sure
They we’re definitely overshadowed by Judas Priest and Iron Maiden but should’ve been right there with them
So does Tank and Diamond head. For whatever reason, these bands lost their momentum after their superb debut albums.
@@vicrattlehead6386 ...Angel Witch..said crappy management..marketing..

As well as tygers of pan tang and savage

I can't understand why this band didn't go to the mainstream. They're very cool!
I know right! The fact that Kevin Heybourne can sing and play lead guitar is very talented and amazing.
The mom/manager kept holding out for a "better deal". No joke...

Great band , used to play the Dutch house pub in south London a lot in the late 70s
I think this is the greatest and most underrated heavy metal savagery in history... That intro is almost IMPOSSIBLE to play.
Its actually easy to play.

This song is so beautiful!!!
Saw them so many times in the 80's. Shame they never got the fame they deserved.
They never really took off did they, I also saw them many times as a support band
melbman43 yeah. IIR they were known as a support band that will fill the venue back then. I guess they just fell by the wayside.

Sure. Along with Satan's 'Court In The Act'.
I just discovered this song and it is f*%&ing amazing!

Saw this lineup at the Warehouse Liverpool 1981, fantastic gig....Long feckin time ago!!!!
One of the most influencial heavy black band!. Stay Heavy, Stay Hard, Long Live Rock'N'Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
