Thank you for making this Katelyn! You're videos get more and more helpful as you go! I am totally clueless as to how the album process works since I am new to photographing weddings. Would you be able to provide a step-by-step process of what you do or how it all works? Or maybe that would make a good video? Or how do you go about determining the cost for your clients? Thank you!

First, thank you Katelyn for making nuggets of information affordable to those that can't afford the full education. When my son was 3-ish I received my first album that you sold me on (by LC). It was around 9 PM and this kid sat on the couch flipping through it like it was a magical fairy tale book. Q1: Do you still offer Leather Albums? Q2: Do you mark up cost for design?

I live about 30 minutes from KISS Books! I need to reschedule the tour I was going to take earlier this year! Your albums are beautiful! I do offer them to my clients, however, I spend sooo much time designing them! Do you choose the images to send to Align, or does Align choose the images? Thank you so much for sharing! Awesome about living so close!! We have talked about doing a tour someday. We send the blogged images to Align to design the album with. Those are my favorite images and if the client wants to swap something out they can!

I was just rewatching this video and thought that her parents could do a vow renewal, Katelyn (or a close photographer friend) could photograph it, and then gift them the album. It would be such a sweet gift with the addition of having their children and grandchildren there too!! ☺️❤️
Love all of this Katelyn! I would love to learn more about your process for marketing and selling them! Do you offer again if couples don't purchase in the beginning? Do you offer parent albums as an upsell? How do you determine your upsell pricing? I feel like this is an area I could bulk up quite a bit- about 50% of my clients pick one but I'd like to offer again and I just am not sure the best timing for it all!

Thanks Katelyn, Our top collection comes with a 20 page 8x8 thin page. Currently I don’t own any sample albums. What size do you suggest I order? I thought we’ll I have to order the 8x8 that way they see the difference between what they are getting that way they would want to upgrade!?
Yes we have a 8x8 and a 12x12 sample!
I am adding albums and will look into Kiss more as I've heard great things. I have had a great experience so far with amorealbums, but only through customer service and their site and learning the process. Haven't ordered anything yet. Have you heard anything about them?

Katelyn, do you mind me asking. I have a genuine guilt when selling albums. My mark up isn't even that much compared to many photographers I know but I just feel when I'm trying to justify try an album is worthy, that spending £300/£600 on a singular album is difficult. Do you know what I mean? I would love some advice on it, I appreciate this is an older video but if you see this I would be so thankful.
Hi Katelyn, I'm really interested in offering albums to my wedding clients, but am still fairly new to the business, and have no clue how you go about pricing? How do you know how much to charge for albums in order to not only make a profit, but still look after your clients?
A common practice is to charge triple what the wholesale price is for the album!!
I have a question. Do you do the design album first and then go to kiss to order the album or they two separate companies that do albums?
We have Align Album Design design the album and then we send the design to Kiss for printing.

What's a good (average) number of spreads to offer in an album for a client (and then add/upgrade spreads from there). 2. What's the best way to go about having the clients pick their favorite images for their album design and how many images should they pick?
Hi Holly! We like 15 spreads (30 pages) because it allows us to upgrade! We design the album design with our favorites that I used for the blog post and then Align album design does all of our client's change requests!
I use kiss. I ask my clients to star their favorite 100 or so photos from their online gallery. Give or take is fine. Then I go from there.

From your classes, I have seen how many images you take (all wonderful). My question is, how many of those images make it into the album; and do you chose or does the bride chose her favorites for the album?
I normally have my blogged images which are my favorite and there are about 200 of those. The album designer chooses from those images. The bride can always sub in images after the first draft!

What type of paper is the album printed on?
From Kiss's website: We do true, RA-4 photographic printing (much nicer than "press prints"!) on Fuji Crystal Archival paper for both luster and matte pages. Super-durable, with a nice, soft finish. We found, after much testing, that the Fuji paper showed less discoloration and deterioration across the book seam.

I know this is a year ago but I’m just now seeing it. Hopefully somebody can answer me. How does one make money on selling albums when the album itself is so expensive?
Charge the client 2x-3x what you paid for the album!
That’s the easy answer Katelyn, but the albums are already $300-$500. It’s clear I don’t have the clients that you have, but who is paying $1,000-$1,500 for a wedding album. The least expensive very nice album I’ve seen is $200. Which is still $400-$600 for my bribe.

Interesting vid. Quick question, say you charge $2000 to shoot a wedding and you deliver say 200-350 pics from the day, how do you then get your client to spend an additional $300-$400 more on an album??? But more importantly, why would they pay for an album when you've already delivered the photos to them??? I only ask because I'm looking to get into wedding photography at the start of next year once I've got all my ducks in a row...
To make an album from KISS costs arounds $500-600. On top of that, they have the album designed for them, so that's another $200. I would say, if you're charging $2000 for a wedding, don't worry about albums YET. Plan to do it in the future, but recognize how much is costs to MAKE an album, and then charge for your time on top of all that. That all being said, when you're charging $5000+ to photograph a wedding, they don't think much about adding an extra $1000-$2000 for an album. When you market your albums as a luxury item, your clients really find a value in that and they want to FEEL luxurious, so they invest. I'm not sure if that answers your question or not.

I see too much empty space in that album. It's like you have a 12x12 canvas and you stick a 4x6 on a page.
