This is the longest underwater pipe on Earth. It stretches to the bottom of the deepest place on the planet, where only a few people have ever visited.

It would entirely depend on the angle you take. Is it switched right now, in the past, does the population move with it?

Breathing is the act of respiration. Respiration requires gases/air, which is absent in space. So the question should be what if humans could survive in space without breathing.

If you had a pipe to the bottom of the trench, it could easily hold up against the pressure so long as the pipe had a fluid inside with the approximate same pressure or higher to counter balance the internal and external pressures. The problem with people going down that deep is we are essentially sacks of jelly filled donuts with hollow air sacs called lungs that have evolved to exist at the surface pressure of 1 atmosphere or 101 kilopascals. Those soft tissues with gases inside are sensitive to pressure changes (higher or lower). The same issue applies to submarines that have an internal space for humans filled with air, that is susceptible to compression from external pressure force. If you made a drone submarine with all solid parts and no internal air spaces, then it could go to the bottom without much issue.

we've drilled much deeper than this for oil, gas, and samples in both land and ocean. Drilling takes a pipe to bore down to keep the bore hole open. the trick is keeping inner and outer pressures equalized so the pipe doesn't collapse or explode. An answer to why put a pipe down that deep: water can't be compressed but the gasses contained inside can. If that high pressure water was brought to the surface then decompressed through a turbine it could make electricity

It would be costly but there are some benefits. If we made a solid pipe that stretched from the fifth to the first oceanic layer. Put a 180° turn on the deep end with a wide cone attached... the pressure from above the cone may push the water down on it forcing water up the pipe. Add in some water turbines and it could produce allot of energy. Try this yourself before you downright reject what I'm saying. I've done this in a pool but had a smaller pipe inside a larger air filled pipe with some weights used to submerge it. It works and with a 180° turn at the top, it produces flowing water constantly but I'm wondering if you just use a single pipe that cannot be crushed, if that would work as well.
