I remember as a kid my sister and I were tired of failing Cooking Mama levels, so we started failing on purpose and seeing how terrible we could purposefully make the food. And then we'd cheer "Fail!!!" together whenever we failed
That reminds me of this old series called "Let's Fail: the quest for 0 points" that tried to do exactly that for a bunch of Papa Louie games
God its so weird that the Wii U, which I still think of as a modern console is now over a decade old.

I remember playing cooking mama as a child shortly after I just learned reading. I went to my parents crying intensely after failing at everything because I thought I was just too stupid to understand/read the instructions. Turns out the game was in chinese.

As someone who grew up in the Catholic faith and yet doesn't consider themselves Catholic (haven't gone through confirmation), hearing Dan talk about going through it all for a Wii makes me laugh, knowing how many in my local parish probably have a similar motive or go through it for some other non-faith reason.

in italy as kids the money and gifts are the reason you go through the sacraments and catechism, after thoose you enter church only for marriage, funerals or a family member sacrament, that's it really

What was it before?
Dan's story about why he became catholic is very similar on why I agreed at 7 years old to join my local church choir because my mum said I can pick 1 thing from toys r us and I desperately wanted a Gameboy Advance SP. I was stuck in that choir for about 8 years but was so worth it for that SP

Let me elaborate on the pricing scheme this game had:
- The digital version of the base game was a free download off the Wii U eShop, and utilized a "Pass system". Beyond the freebies granted to you, you could either purchase a "day pass" for $2 that would grant you access to all sports for 24 hours, or you could purchase a "Single Sport Pass" for $10 that would grant you _permanent_ access to a sport of your choice.
- Physical game discs for _Wii Sports Club_ on the other hand, for reasons obvious, eschewed the Pass system entirely and had no time limits or fees on what you could play.

The only reason I remember Cooking Mama was because when I was younger, I had a copy of it on my 3ds and one day I got so sick of failing every mini game I "banished the cartridge" and stuck it in the elastic pocket of my 3ds case. It's still there to this day and it's been years, I haven't played it since lmao

This is actually a trial. You'd have had to buy it before the eshop went down.
If they're on the 24 hour time limit they either haven't paid and it's a free trial period, or they got the Day Pass for like $2. Either way there is an option to buy each sport permanently for like $10 each and the limited time of the Day Pass or free trial is fairly clear.
Fun fact: you also don't own your Steam games, only the license to play them

What 11 year old RT didn’t take into consideration was by becoming Catholic he did give up his right to succeed to the British throne. It is unlikely for a random Irish boy to become ruler of the United Kingdom, but it’s not impossible. Had he married Prince William, Prince William would have had to give up his right to the throne too. That’s my main reason for not being catholic. Just in case.

The Wii was one of the hardest things to obtain back in the late 2000s. It was the PS5 of it's day. Everyone wanted one, but no one could get one.
My grandmother bugged a store manager so much that when he finally got a shipment for one he set it aside, but would only let her leave with it if it were in a TV box.
