- A short film written and directed by Louis Barthorpe.
A short drama shot over the course of one day in Greenwich, THE OUTING; written by Louis Barthorpe, is about a group of friends at a pub in the mid-afternoon on a summer's day, the narrative revolves around self-identity and acceptance from peers. Here is my own edited and graded version of this short film, which I worked on as a cinematographer.

For some men, it's most painful coming out and being true to yourself.
The self imposed pressure can be insurmountable. Until they fully come
out, most men live double lives, and the weight of the lies can be
unassailable. Some suicide rather than dealing with it. I know of three
such cases this year. Their mothers are devastated. Hopefully, society
is getting better at acceptance.
I lost one friend because he would not support me.....its hard ....true friend will stand up and support
And friendships are ending too
That was cool.
Nice twist, Very good
Was good , but I thought it could just a tad longer .
Look forward to seeing more , I subscribed.
Didn't understand the anger, and then being closeted.
Standard fare.
Self hating…it’s a thing.
Don't really understand how he was sooooo angry when his friend "came out" and then he was soooo comfortable with the guy he was seeing just come over to him and talk to him and touch his face.
I think it could have been better if the last part was written differently. Rather than him being at the bar he probably should have been with his friends when the guy sees him walks over to him and kisses him without warning and outs him like that. Or something like that.
Classic basher transparency while they think folks are too stupid to figure it out
So what happens next?
Australians never fail to make excellent realistic drama! Much better than Brits or Americans. (said the American, lol.)
very interesting!
I would do the one in the middle
LOL- he told me he found you attractive.
@@jamesmcinnis208 you can tell him I’m waiting for him here, in nyc 🤩

Best comment here.
4:56 'ello Ollie. Something in your left front pocket? We know it's not car keys. You must be REALLY 'appy to see Charlie!
Self-hate is a bastard not worth respecting.
There was supposed to be a joke in there. But the 'joke' wasn't funny and no explanation why the joke was made in the first place. The rest was unfortunately predictable.
Bit like a Manx cat, mate. No tail!
I think I missed something
No ice in the drinks and no cocktail napkins. Ugh.
U killed me….dying.
💜 In UK, one doesn’t like ice in the drinks the way one does in USA. But, beyond that, that’s your way of saying you’re saying you’re not homophobic, which is great! ❤️ However, that’s begging the question of Ollie’s self-hatred, & pretending to be homophobic, so that his mates won’t find out he’s gay. 🧡 I realise it’s just a fictional film, but one hopes the chaps represented by the fictional Ollie can quit promoting homophobia by pretending to be homophobic. 💛 One also hopes more chaps can be supportive of their gay friends, & tell their homophobic friends that their homophobia is unreasonable. 💚 Very well-done film, lads!!! 💙
The actors are almost laughing all the time even when he’s about to come out. I did not find it well played.
Dialogue is bizarrely out of context. This is no more how friends in a pub talk than if they had discussed Swan Lakes second pas de deux. Well meant and sincere, well acted, just opening half scrip is woeful.
The closeted gay guy's friend was using gay coming out as a joke. Of course, the gay guy is not ready to come out to his friends.
???
Wouldn't it be nice if that was real world.
So many straights coming out of the attic now. Don't they know their place in society? Don't ask...don't tell. Is what I suggest for these straights to practice, don't reveal your shame, & I won't ask. I don't want to hear their issues. Not my issue they were born heterosexual.
Very nice satire!
So, it was real good until the ending....or should I say no ending. So....it was not good.
I have no idea what the point of this short was.
Guys don't talk like that. A melodramatic film written by women no doubt.
I didn't get it. I guess I must be stupid after all.
I didn't either. It must be so subtle that my mind is too dense to appreciate it. Can anyone who does, enlighten us?
@@dickwagenaar3684 The real gay is the one that got angry he hates himself and afraid to be found out. Over acting his straightness.
