    Awesome guide thanks for posting. Removing the clamps holding the heat sink was the mos difficult. The plastic shell was delicate some parts chip away as I was removing it. I guess because of age.

  • @JesseFleming1990
    @JesseFleming1990 Před rokem +9

    I see some people commenting their Xbox 360 is still freezing or getting RRoD. That is because if you have a motherboard prior to Jasper, the solder for the onboard chips is of poor quality and prone to cracking. You need to send the console off to get the onboard chips reballed. There are reballing services on eBay that will replace the chips with quality solder and is the permanent fix for RRoD. I have a Xenon (1st gen) motherboard that I sent off to be reballed, and I have replaced the heatsink with the improved one from falcon boards with fresh thermal paste, and fans set to 100%. It has not caused me problems in 14 years.

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  Před rokem +3

      yes The RRoD can be fixed and prevented by replacing the thermal paste often, and this video is for repaste ONLY, not a 100% fix for RRoD. as you mentioned the the issue is from the solder balls under the GPU , because the chips are BGA designad chips.
      and it's not because of the bad quality solders, its because of bad quality heatsink that dries the solder balls to a point that creates a resistance or a crack because of over heating and cooling.
      we do reballing for the BGA chips in the store for our clients. also setting the fan speed to 100% its not a good idea : one for the dust buildup will be very fast and resulting to fan failure and over heating, i would recommend you ro set the fan to 70-75% with a help of a resistor, apart that it's very loud at 100% 🤣
      i do appreciate the feedback and your support regarding the RRoD issue.

    • @JesseFleming1990
      @JesseFleming1990 Před rokem +1

      @@uFixTek Delta fans can handle 100% SMC speed as is designed by target temps. You are thinking of a 9V mod which is a true 100% speed of the fan capabilities. That being said neither fan tweak should cause issues as long as the end user maintains proper sanitary practices such as the occasional compressed air blow out. Also the solder is ABSOLUTELY the problem on pre-jasper boards. Microsoft outsourced their lead-free solder formula for their production board which they needed at the 11th hour due to new environmental laws. It was later publicly announced both to investors and media in a post mortem that the lead free solder they were using caused cracking from rapid heating and cooling, something a proper factory formula or lead solder does not have issues with. The BGA chips were later downscaled and a new solder application was used in Jasper models onward.
      I love your tutorial here though. I was just putting the comment here for the other viewers that still can't figure out why they are not able to fix their systems after a nice fresh repaste :)

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  Před rokem +1

      much appreciate all the info and support. there is so much marketing going into the laptops and consoles so they don't last longer as it's not profitable for the companies. they do have their own area for "by design make it don't last".
      it's profitable for us as repair centers but horrible for consumers. i been in this business for over 17 years and i could write a book on how they have progressed from making a good solid circuit to new modern horrible circuits that are made to fail.
      the best e.g is the chargers on TV consoles and laptops. back in the time they made power supply for consoles with extra overhead protection 30-40% they could hold a good about of high wave of voltage, but now they are going with exactly what they electronic agreement of every country and that's 5-8% over head. that's why they burn so easy.
      the same for laptops, they give you a laptop with a 4amp charger but they don't tell you that you need a 6amp if you want to run the laptop and if the battery is under 50%.
      the 4amp is good for when your battery if fully charged and 4am goes to run the board. but when the battery is low it requires over 4amp, therefore that starts to over heat the charger and soon later end up buying new one.
      BACK then 12years ago they would give you a PSU with truly designed to last.
      and this is only a fraction of how they design in purpose.
      air flow, components design, and heatsink clams (horrible pressure), horrible over voltage chips on high end laptops, and much more.
      - you are absolutely right, with keeping the you devices clean on regular bases. BUT 90% of my clients don't even know that they need to do service on the devices. i believe that there should be a paper READ ME , saying that you need to clean and repaste once in a year or so. just like when you get a car, change you god damn oil :P

Instead, you should apply a high-quality thermal paste to ensure proper heat dissipation. Failure to do so may result in negative consequences, such as system crashes and sudden power-offs.

    Should the X-clamps move at all after they are inserted? Mine are moving quite a bit. I did try putting the screws back in to see what would happen and they stopped moving, but I don’t remember them moving at all during the disassembly even after I took the screws out. I also noticed in your video you mentioned tightening them with pliers after putting them back on after the repaste and I was wondering if this is what I should do.

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  Před 3 měsíci +1

      🫠Regarding your question, if you placed the x-clamps it will have a wiggle room always, don't worry if your xclamp got hooked to the screw rods then just place the tray and screw it from other end and it will tight it self to the board.

      make sure you installed the x-clamp under the CPU correctly and you have not damaged any capacitors in the middle of the clamp.

    @act1no Před 2 lety +3

    Don't use a screwdriver or any sharp tools while removing the heatsink because if you are not careful enough, you will scratch the motherboard's pattern (roads.) It is a pain in the ass fixing it. I made this mistake a long time ago. I will never forget it.

    • @uFixTek

      i would agree with but the tools made for remove the X-Clamp are metal anyways, but as you say one must be very careful not scratching the pads on board. Just take your time doing it.
