Fire Alarm Test #47

- Test of a new 4100 ES system upgrade at a school I assisted with commissioning over the summer. Most of everything to this system is new excluding the notification appliances. And yes, before you say anything I know many of the horns sound raspy. They will eventually be phased out with new devices.

1:19 - the 9219 sounds beautiful!
The campus center at my friend's university has those electromechanical 4903 horn/strobes as well. Currently they have a Simplex 4100ES system, with TrueAlert speaker/strobes in the renovated main lobby and some TrueAlert horn/strobes replacing the 4903 horn/strobes.
Have you heard what tone and message the speaker strobes do?
Nope; but I assume they do the usual Slow Whoop or Code-3 tone and default evac message.
Reminds me of the school I went to for kindergarten; they replaced their old Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights with SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes. The same thing happened with three of the buildings at my college that had 4050-80s as well. A pretty strange coincidence...
So much of this system sounds like pure agony
I always fine these mechanical horn types and tones to be harmonic
I love the Simplex 4903 electromechanical horn strobes, but those ones sounded pretty bad. I doubt smacking them a little would’ve helped just like that fire alarm inspection at a local high school.
That inspection video got another one since it got a new panel (4007ES) and the smacking didn't help one 4903 as the horn in the cafeteria in the updated video died but the strobe still flashes.
Oh, so that's what the LEDS on those new 4099 pull stations are for. My old school got a 4100ES, with the same devices. Funny thing, they had put in a 4007ES, but the old 4002 had 28 zones, so of course the 4007ES was too small, which delayed the installation process, and also me getting some of the old devices (RARE 2099-901 pulls and 2901-9720 Bells, and yes, I live in Canada). Sorry for the long comment, but nice video! I've been subscribed for over a year now! Simplex is AWESOME!
Those are some sick horns. :c
Glad to know that those’ll be upgraded soon, those sound horrendous
ikr
They replaced the Gentex Commander 1's at my school with 3's last week!! 😭😭😭
3s are better tho
Yea but they were quieter...but half of them were dying badly.
I like all your Fire Alarm Videos.
Thanks for viewing!
You're Welcome. My Favorite Fire Alarm is Simplex.
love fire alarms
2:28 The bell sounds like a simplex speaker strobe tone that usually does code 3.
That’s really cool
Those are the same alarms by the school by my house and my high school. Along with old 4050's horn and some true alerts.
Very cool! Why does the app take a while to reset the panel? Is it because of the cellular service or the panel itself? Great video.
Sorry, silence not reset.
Thanks for viewing, The app is part of an internal-based software that relies on a cloud connection to communicate across a central server. This process in itself creates a lag in reaction time.
What did the 4903s get replaced with
Ah, reminds me of highschool everything is set to steady.
I wouldn't want to go to a school with horns in classrooms. It's absolutely overkill
All the schools in my district do, and even worse, they are all either EST genesis or integrity, or spectralert classic or ADVANCE! And an occasional Wheelock device, but never any speaker/ strobe in a classroom, only a horn/strobe. My elementary school had the integrity, my middle school had the advance, and now I have the newer EST genesis at my high school.
Cool! Keep up the good work!
Right before you pulled the second pull station my ears could've deceived me but I thought I heard the Simplex tone that is associated with their voice evacuation systems beep twice. Is part of the school on voice evacuation?
Gary Beltz
No it’s actually the tone on the buildings PA to signal class changes.
Wow it sounds EXACTLY the same as your code-3 tone.
That's the same bell my school has for class change
Hi, I'm was wondering, what app are you using?
Also, How long have you been testing alarms?
IloveChristmasAnd FireAlarms he is using an app created by simplex so they can do certain things with the panel on the phone
nice video! It looks like the system may not be up to code due to non syncing.
If my numbers are correct, the notification appliances date between 1993 and 1997.
Actually, it's 1994-1998, but for these particular ones, it's 1994-97, possibly because there's no colored shape on the strobe reflector to indicate how bright the strobe is.
Happy new Year! 😀💎2018!
1:17 my sister when she dosnt get what she wants
your sister is a fucking wasp wtf
Are the horns replaced now? With what new device?
If they were replaced, likely going to be TrueAlerts
What’s the name of that app?
are those 9252's i heard in the gym?
Some as well as 9219s. Maybe they are 9254 and 9217 models, but I think they are 15 candela
How can you have old horn strobes on a newpannel
Vinnie Versaci
As long as the device meets current UL listed requirements and the panel supports conventional NAC outputs it can be done.
Fantastic video!

Why do the 4903 mechanical horns get so raspy? Other mechanical horns don’t seem to get as bad.
Likely where they're installed in, building conditions and age of the 4903 could be why they get raspy.
Rough sounding alarms
What system did this panel have? Before the major upgrade?
JohnDeereManF350
It was an old 4020
Is the reason why they had an alarm in the first classroom because there were no other alarms around?
Goldenrod636
I believe the spacing requirements of that area called for one. Nowadays I believe A/V’s are required in all rooms. At least here locally they are.
Yeah I would have figured that since that was the only classroom down there right?
What would that app say if you were doing a test on a system with monitored CO detectors and you set one off during a test? Would that be called a general alarm? so your phone would say "You have received a general alarm! Point type: Carbon Monoxide!"
Gary Beltz
It’s all dependent upon how the point is programmed and configured into the system. But for the most part yes it would say something similar.
You have an app!
I realize some of the horns are a little scratchy
Likely from age or the condition on where the 4903 is installed
Why every 4903 is dying
Usually from age or the conditions where the 4903 is installed.
Very raspy
Happy New Year!

How come the FACP is not doing audible silence?
It's probably not programmed that way, and besides, these horn/strobes may or may not have had their jumpers cut in order to do audible silence.
firealarmveteran15 true
Audible silence is not allowed under current code (as of 2013).
SAFETECH oh wow. Last time I read NFPA 72, it stated “ you shall have one of the signals still active during silence” or something like that.
Safeman4202 It’s not like many older systems would’ve done audible silence anyways. Most of the older electromechanical horn strobes and strobe plates were wired so they were two wire operable. Manuals at the time actually say that’s how it’s supposed to work (at least the one for my 2903 strobe plate does). You really couldn’t configure it for four wire without not being able to take the wire to the next device or EOL.
2:29 is that the school bell?
Yep
2:43
what app is that
Probably not going to tell you.
Jared Thompson ..

2:27 why is there beeping
Class change bell.
