Forsberg was one of the best hockey players I've ever seen. Top 10 all time in my humble opinion.
Problem was, the physical way Forsberg played got him injured a lot. He only really had 8 full seasons.
There was many nights over his career he was the best on the planet.
@@Pollywar very true. I'll never forget the 06 playoffs with the flyers vs buffalo. He was the only reason the flyers won 2 home games. He just took over. He did that often. He reminded me of Hasek in that way, just dominating a game by himself.
@@rebeltvr6046it’s funny he talked about trying to take it easy. Lidstrom is arguably the opposite of Forsberg, always economical and careful. He made it work for many years, taking it easy in his own way, always outsmarting everyone and not putting hard miles on his body. I’m glad I got to see both play, both one of a kind.
Sad outcome for a career that could have been unreal.. unheard of injury that ruined something that would have been special
Forsberg was on another level with his talent ... dude was unreal.
I think he’ll always be someone overlooked, from an all time talent standpoint, unless you actually got to see him play. I’ll never forget the year the Avs beat my Blues in the conference finals. I was sick over it, but forever became a Forsberg fan.
Forsberg was one of the few players I've ever seen who would go out of his way to initiate contact while carrying the friggin' puck. Just an amazing talent.
Wow, for Peter to admit he was coasting shows that he’s human like everybody else. Those RedWings/Avalanche games in the mid-to-late 90’s were must see tv for puckheads like me.
*fuckheads.....lol jk , yea I was a kid but I remember those games and forsberg was my fav player 👏
Except hockey and all sports and celebrities are completely unimportant people
a few of us went to our local bar to watch one at the height of the rivalry and they had an Orlando Solarbears game on and wouldn't change it lol.
Classy to mention Mike Keane. Clutch player on 3 Cup teams and a legend with the Manitoba Moose in the twilight years of his great career.
Cups on 3 different teams.
Yeah, good catch man. Kean was a much bigger part of that trade, but it's totally understandable given Roy being the centerpiece.
Love Peter Forsberg, Roy and Sakic as well, that whole team was exceptional. Always seemed like a great guy also.
Joe Sakic was 1 of the best centers of all time
Forsberg was such a stud player
Moral of the story, dont mess with Patrick Roy
peter forsberg is my fav hockey player of all-time...yes, he had some weaknesses with his temper sometimes... but i think i caught myself smiling at the things he did on the ice so many times. what an amazingly talented and strong athlete, and was definitely the best player to watch for me. it's too bad his body just couldn't keep doing it, but i am thankful for having been able to see him do what he could do.
Wow! What a story....Sure says a lot about Roy and his awareness of everything going on all over the ice. But I think it also demonstrates what a class act Forsberg is being able to own being called out in front of his team. Remember, at that time Forsberg was a like a major stud and to be humble enough to admit that he was giving less than 100% is awesome. Nice of Forsberg to remind people how important players like Keane were, also.
Agreed! He's always happy to share the spotlight.
The best talent to have with greatness is humility for sure. Roy was a icon but his lack of humility has turned him into either the butt of the joke or one to be feared. That’s makes it difficult to have him teach another how to follow his talent and that is a shame cause he was so fun to watch. It would be great to have that kind of goalie out there again.
There’s obviously great goalies out there now, just Roy brought a certain flair as long as he was angry.
i miss the 90’s and 2000’s roster of players so much. i remember playing all those nhl games on psone and dreamcast, constantly tweaking the line-ups to match the actual rosters irl, even creating the players that hadn’t been added to the games yet. good times lol
You can do that today too. It’s great lol. Still play modern nhl games with only my favorite players growing up.
I guess this shows why Roy has won multiple times as a coach, his awareness and hockey IQ is higher than most people. He lives and breathes the game. Forgetting a minute to mention how absurdly talented Foppa was too.
Lifelong Wings fan, and fondly remember the great days of the Wings/Avs rivalry games. Often the talk would be about dealing with Sakic, Roy, or Claude. I always worried about Forsberg. He could play it anyway you wanted; finesse or tough. An all-around great, great player!
Wrong Local,Forsberg was Always included in THE TALK!!
Forsberg was the greatest.what a team it was
Really like how he mentioned Mike Keane in the Roy trade...pretty good all around, tough and a team 1st type of player!
As a Nords fan, it hurts to listen to how good they became especially with the addition of Claude Lemieux and Patrick a guy from Quebec city itself. If they had this team in Quebec they would have been Gods with statues everywhere. lol
You know damn well that the habs would have never traded roy to the nords even for twice what they would get elsewhere….the fans would never let them live that down
@@patrickkirkham Savard was ready to do it, Nolan for Roy. But was fired.
Peter! Probably the strongest in the corner’s and on the puck. Great talent. Roy! Intense, talented and determined!
Crosby might have something to say about that!
A wizard on the ice was blessed to watch you play
Patrick had no shame, I can't hear what you're saying because I've got my 2 stanley cup rings plugged in my ears.
*”plugging my ear” tabernac
That dressingroom had so much leadership. Even the big boys were held accountable. No one was safe if you didn't give your full effort.
Goalies do see everything. That's part of the reason why the good ones "magically" end up in the right spot, 90+% of the time.
I feel like Patrick Roy was like Michael Jordan. A great talent that elevate his play when it count, the kind of guy you want to win championship, but probably the worst enemy of his lazy teamates.
And an absolute bully as a coach to kids in juniors, many of which were minors. Guy is a sociopath.
Is Forsberg the best overall/all-around player ever? Offense, defense, physicality…
Nope. Not close. The Avs won more playoff games in 2001 with him injured than when he was playing.
@@charlisantini3403 so you’re saying Peter Forsberg is a bad player.. lol ok
@@charlisantini3403 they won exactly 8 games with Forsberg in the first two rounds (Vancouver, LA) and exactly 8 games without him in the final two rounds (St Louis, NJ) ... and actually lost one more game without him
not sure what you're trying to say about a guy that had 14 points in 11 games that playoff year and was widely considered the best player in the world
I watched the game on TV where Roy was left in instead of being pulled after 3 goals scored against him.. He quit Montreal afterwards. It was a real shock because nobody quit a team for any reason in any sport. He was the best goalie ever (maybe). He had a lot of pride. And although i was new to watching hockey I admired his rebel stand. The guy had BALLS.
PETER FORSBERG!!!
Luv that guy 😎
Forsberg is hands down the most complete player ever.
At his peak, Forsberg was the best in the world. It's a shame he couldn't get his foot problems figured out, he'd be up there with Jagr in all-time points if he had.
Sakic was always better than him. But hey, ignore facts
@@charlisantini3403 Sakic is my favorite player of all time, but he was not better than Forsberg from 99-04. Nobody was.
@@grimiss bro in 2001 colorado won the cup, forsberg didn't even play. he was a great talent. but sakic had talent plus leadership and everything else. they don't win the cup without sakic but without forsberg they did.
@@meladgoat He played the first 2 rounds and then had to get his appendix removed, genius. The fact that they managed to win without him was just a testament to that team's depth. When Forsberg came back the following postseason, he led the league in points despite COL not even reaching the Final. From 99-04 Forsberg's p/gp was higher than Sakic's, he was the best overall player in the world. Anyone who says Sakic was better during that time doesn't understand hockey at an elite level.
It was actually his spleen that got removed and yes, as amazing as Sakic was, Peter the Great was the best hockey player in the world in his prime. I watched every Avs game during that era and Forsberg was on another level.
I had 2 ankle surgeries which ended my playing hockey anymore and was very bitter towards the surgeons until i saw Peter the Great having his career ended too from ankle problems. Fixing ankles is an Art and no guarantee.
Favourite player of all time
Foppa is forever my favourite player. Just watching him effortlessly play and score in his prime was an absolute pleasure.
PETER FORSBERG WAS AWESOME!
Patrick Roy is the ultimate winner
Forsberg had injuries that stopped him a lot. But still when healthy or half-healthy always performed with his outstanding skills, mentality and toughness.. One of the greatest for sure. And also Roy of course, what a legend and winner.
Peter the great!
these interviews are the best. at the end of the day it's really just the boys playing hockey.
Peter Forsberg, one of my all time favorite players, even though I'm a Blues fan. 9
After hearing that it really solidifies why he has had so much success coaching in the Q
Foppa is probably one of the most talented players ive ever seen play. There is a short video of him doing backhand shots with one hand and just smashing them on the crossbar one by one. For anyone who has ever hold a hockey stick knows that is a crazy skill to have.
Roy was from another planet. Definitely great and entertaining. I rejoiced when he left Montreal for the Avs.
If Quebec hadn’t moved to Colorado that season, there’s no way Patrick Roy would have landed with the Nordiques.
Actually before Serge Savard was fired, he had a deal that summer that would have sent Roy to Quebec for Owen Nolan.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 - exactly my point. Someone somewhere said hell no he’s not going to Quebec.
@@SimRacingVeteran ah ha ha you may be right. Although they could have done something in a 3-way. Like he is traded to a team then the Nords would offer great players to that team for Roy.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 - yeah I suppose but it’s all what ifs at this point. Would the Nordiques have won the cup in 96 if they were still in Quebec that year? Who knows. I remember Quebec having a franchise best season in 95. That team was clearly on an upwards trajectory.
@@SimRacingVeteran He was a Nordiques fan before signing to Montreal. I don't think he would have opposed being traded to Quebec.
Legend 😎
Legend
In the day, Michael Jordan for basketball , Peter Forsburg. All time pros i followed and aspired the.
LMAO "That'...He's fault..." Great story. 🤣
Forsberg is my all time favorite player! Go avs!!!
Greatest Swede of all time, Avs could be short handed and Forsberg would just hold the puck for 2 minutes. Absolute beast!
Is this a recent interview or the one from a a long time ago?
sweet shout out to Wendel.
Could you imagine an 18 yr old Peter Forsberg playing now? NO more clutch and grab. The PERFECT package. He'd just squash Mcdavid.
Man I remember when that trade got announced. I pretty much said well the Ava just won the cup
Great guest! Follow you asap. 🤩👍
Patrick Roy. Absolute G.O.A.T. in the nets. Not Marty, Not Dominik, Not even close. 3 Conn smythe Trophies in 3 separate decades!!! 'nuff said.
Hasek no.1 imo
@@kallebaah0 The stats don’t back that up. The longevity doesn’t back that up, and the playoff success and Stanley Cup rings doesn’t back that up.
“DONNY, YOU’RE OUT OF YOUR ELEMENT.”
"I am the Walrus"
@@kanegarvey848Like Lenin said.
Maybe the most understated badass credential in the world is that PETER. FORSBERG. is a little afraid of you to this day. Peter I-don't-care-if-I'm-carrying-the-puck-I'm-still-gonna-deck-you Forsberg. Peter "Yeah one of my ankles can't turn anymore I guess I've only got like 7-8 years left in the show" Forsberg.
Goalies have the best view
If Dallas didn’t come along, Colorado could of had 4-5 cups in 6 years. Checkout that 99 series!!
Belfour!!!!
Peter Forsberg looks like my high school shop teacher now... kind of sounds like him too.
From 2001-2004 or so, Forsberg was the best player in hockey.
Goalies are different. We put our bodies on the line for when the team has failed, we know the reality of the game and it is unkind; do not expect a good goalie to tolerate laxity, but each has their own way of addressing it.
Best curve ever on a hockey stick too. Was my shit
still waiting for the Hilarious Patrick Roy Story
It was not hilarious. But it was a story.
Why is Forsberg dressed like The Dude from The Big Lebowski?
He had Bobby Orr smooth.
Yep, that sounds like something Patrick Roy would do lmao. Your status and your name didn't matter, only winning mattered.
755 pts in 581 games. Yes if he stayed healthy? But the reason he was so good is what got him hurt..
👍👍🤣
You tube his one hand backhand so sik
If Carey Price had just half Roy’s passion..
Carey had a differebt disposition but he was solid.
@@johnbrowne2170 Solid but no fury like Pat…. So no stanley cups like Pat.
@@dopy8418 Not his fault. Blame his lame teammates.
Go ahead and tell me what line-up did Carey ever have in front of him that was even remotely comparable to the teams Patrick won with !? The worst line-up he got during his 4 championship runs was the 86' Canadiens which had players like Carbonneau, Gainey, Robinson, Chelios, Lemieux, Smith, Naslund, etc... And coming from Montreal, I know for a fact that 99% of Carey's haters are delusional Halak fanboys who still can't get over the fact that the Canadiens ended up choosing Price over him, which ended up being the right decision. Blaming Carey for not winning with those pieces of sh*t line-ups is laughable, borderline retarded...
I thought this was a Forsberg interview. All I saw was Kenny Rogers.
Peter knew when to hold them and when to fold them. When Patrick called him out, there was no chance to bluff.
Gnarly
Story at 2:10
Where was the hilarious part?
I never liked Patrick Roy. I always and still do think of him as an arrogant man. I respected his talent but his personality I did not. When he was with Montreal I cheered for him, that was my team. Afterwards, especially if he played against Montreal or Detroit, I loved to see him lose.
You mistakenly took what you thought as arrogance but it was more a win at all costs attitude
I actually looked at him in the opposite way. I didn’t think he was that great athletically. He looked clunky and just became a big robot wall but his attitude, the mystique and of course the media pumping his tires his whole career had players second guessing themselves or trying to make an extra move. He was in a lot of players heads and they were beat before the game started.
great story, was not "hilarious".
this wasnt hilarious, it was mildly humorous
Quick reminder, the Avs won more games in the playoffs with Forsberg out injured then they did with him in the line-up. But go on, lie about how "great" he was.
Quick reminder. Edmonton won the cup efter Gretzky moved to LA. But go on, lie about how great he was...
Bobby Orr had a +/- of -2 in the 1971 playoff quarterfinal series against winner Montreal Canadiens. But go on, lie about how "great" Orr was.
I love the fact that he points to Mike Keane and Claude Lemieux as well as Patrick Roy as the keys to success in Colorado. I dislike that you seem to dismeiss them. Patrick was ONE key, but if not for Keane and Lemieux, Colorado loses. There is only ONE reason that Claude Lemieux is not in the HHOF, and that reason is Scotty Bowman. -- meowMeowmeow(tabernac).
Could you elaborate on that last statement? Claude was obviously a cheap shot artist and a dick on the ice, but oh man what a money player he was too. I remember when Claude's younger brother Jocelyn arrived on the NHL scene, there was a story in Sports Illustrated where he was quoted as saying that players would spear and cross check him for no reason and then say, "We hate your brother, and we hate you too." Or words to that effect.
@@rainers.2080 Read much? Tabernac. I believe that Scotty Bowman is keeping Claude Lemieux out of the Hockey Hall of Fame. EOS.
Dude, I don't care how many times you keep reporting it to YT: It was Scotty Bowman!
