I don't think the guy who could only see gray, "took it too far". He had a disability, found a work around and gave himself abilities that normal people did not have. While he is using a prototype... His tech will only advance and one day it could grow (or shrink) to the size of a grain of sand. It might no longer need to be external, it could go as far as to cure blindness... it is a long ways away... but it is a start.

I wouldn't call colorblindness a disability in the sense that word gets thrown around. Hear me out.
I have a friend who sees only greyscale, funnily enough he knows the names of most colors by their computer codes, and he can differentiate between colors an order of magnitude better than I, with "normal" vision.
It is a disability in the sense that it's an ability they are without, but it is by no means a handicap.

honestly I think bio hackers will be a very important part of our future. academic research and such takes a long time and has to deal with getting permission for certain research, convincing officials, etc. whereas with bio hacking people can just do it and see if it works. if it does, they can come out with it and others can try it for themselves and thus create sometimes even better research simply by the amount of people involved

Might be how it is in the future, when everyone can get their hands on cheap equipment. Still, you need some sort of education, as the average Joe probably ain't going to discover the cure for cancer.
