- This video is a how-to, DIY or how I installed much needed lighting for my old AWD RAV4.1 Rocky Mountain road commuter 🤠👍
1. I installed spot beams, AKA pencil beam lights, and how I tied them into my factory high beam switch.
2. I also install some fog lights because winter is coming! This RAV4 is pretty well set up for fog lights from the Toyota factory, so it was an easy install.
3. I made up some interesting and portable remote-controlled floodlights that I use for camping and can be powered by vehicle 12 volt or battery packs, even a phone charger battery banks work 👍👍
The spot beams are a set of awesome 4" Auxbeam amber pencil beam lights.

Excellent idea. My truck camping lights are still Coleman lantern, firepit and solar patio lanterns.
Thanks, Craig! Gotta have coleman stuff! I have a beauty coleman lantern from the 80's, same for the stove 👍
Heat shrink + magnets! Brilliant! I learned something today. Thank you.
Thanks, Paul, much appreciated 👍. Hey, how are you liking that OME suspension system on your RAV4?
That view right at the start, incredible.
Thanks! The evening light at that spot is amazing. It sometimes doesn't even look real.
Hi Jimmy. What a beautiful area. So very stunning. You made a wise choice on your vehicle. Love all the lights. That’s a lot of lights. I think your prepared with the lighting! It is a sharp looking vehicle. Happy weekend!🍺🍺🍺❤️
Thank you, Nancy. A few more lights on there, and I'll look like a fire truck 🤣🤠 Have a great saturday evening
Love my 98 rav4 5pd std. Way more fun than my auto taco to drive. Instalked solar panel for my picnic cooler. Bike rack and roofcargo box. Best cheap fishin rig ever. Very capable with 29 in tires. Just turned 200km
Cheers from Yukon
Hi Terry! Perfectly little riggs, love mine! I'm always looking around for a second one.Believe it or not, i'm going to pick up a five speed one of these days. Thanks for the comment, and enjoy your RAV4 🍻👌
Killer rav man. I have a built out tundra but prefer the simplicity of the rav. Great for weekend adventures and solo outings. Love seeing another great 4.1 build.
Thank you!😊 More to come on this 4.1 for sure. Have an awesome weekend 🍻👍
Sadly, I'm neither smart nor crafty. However, I am stubborn so I usually get it done in the end.
Stubborn is a must! Have a great weekend, Paul 👍🤠
You really got me thinking with the camping lights and magnets. The remote is critical though. When you are dragging your harvest after dark and get to your side x side,, Click! Lights on and loading will commense. Surround lighting all the way around. Or if all you are doing is loading the scabbard and back pack it will make quick easy work of it and you will be on your way. Plus if you accidentally drop something it will be way easier to see it. Thank you!
Thanks, buddy! There are lots of practical options for sure. Stringca bunch of LEDs together and light the entire location 👍🍺
"bear is eating your buddy and you wanna see whats going on"
lmao. awesome
I just bought the same auxbeams to put on my gx470 front bumper. i just hope they fit!! love your video!!
Awesome, and thanks 😊
Nice ride
Thank you 👍🍺
Very nice setup. I have all kinds of lights on my gen3 because i like to mess with 12 volt electrical.
One thing I noticed is on your quick disconnect in the tailgate area, it appears that you have the male pin on the hot end, (to the cars power) instead of the male on the lights end. So I’m thinking with that male hot pin could ground out in your door jam (tailgate) where if you reversed that, the hot pin would be protected.
Like the RAV4 I'm presently restoring a 1999 4wd auto tranny one be careful when ordering parts over half the time I got the wrong parts even from the local Toyota dealership here in Marysville Washington
Cool video Jimmy love it! Just curious on what roof racks you have installed on your Rav.
Hi, and thanks for the awesome comment 👍. That is a cheapo Sport Rack I picked up used on the island.
Nice work on the light install. Very clean. Can those remote flood lights mount to a drip rail and where did you find the fused terminal you used? I need a couple of those. Just me but I’d put some self adhesive foam strips on those lower light brackets so they don’t rub the bumper.
Thanks, Sheldon. Good plan with the foam backing👍 Do you mean the remote control setup? I put links to everything I used below.
@@JimmyMeatwhistle I meant the terminal you plugged into the fuse box with the double fuses. I’m trying to find something like that

@@JimmyMeatwhistle thanks man 🍻
Love the first gen ! U go to so many beautiful places . Recently I have local guy selling fwd 5 apeed for sale 99 for 2200 usd , i always want the 4wd but ...should i wait ?? Is rust but not too bad it got some leak atain but it drive good overall ..
Thank you! Hmm. If you buy the FWD version, you will always want the AWD version. Every time you see one, you'll say to yourself, d***I wish I bought the AWD!! Haha. I would wait for the AWD 👍👍
@@JimmyMeatwhistle the 5 speed is so hard to come by ...well 5speed with AWD is even harder to come by . Well u are right, u read my mind lol . I have 99 4runner too ., 90 alltrac Celica, 99 Celica convertible, 93 previa rwd.. 90 old school all day ~~~
Hi Jimmy, would you care to share your current tire specs on the rav?
Have snow tires on it at the moment and the stock painted rims. 225/70 R16
@@JimmyMeatwhistle Thank you! I have a 96 myself, but I like your current setup 👍
What roof rack do you have on this? Looking to put one on mine.
It's a Sportrsck roof rack. It's cheap, but it works well.
Hello, question. After owning both the first gen RAV4 and the second gen, which of them would you say is better in your opinion?
I want to buy one but I can’t decide between the first or second gen.
Hi, I like them both. Both are slow in the mountains, and they could use more power. I like the looks of the 1st gen over all of the others. With the 2nd gen, you can pop out the rear seats, so that's cool if you need the extra space.
The 1st gen 5 speed RAV4 is cool because you can actually lock the transfer case for true 4x4. But only at slow speeds.
I do believe you can't go wrong with either vehicle 👍🍺
@@JimmyMeatwhistle I see, thanks for the response. Very helpful.
Is it a fun SUV to drive? Mý Isuzu rodeo is a lot faster than a stock 4runner around town and more fun to drive on clean roads but the suspension gets crazy in Philadelphia imperfections… So, I’m considering a late year 1st GEN RAV4 but I’m hoping the stock suspension feels really good. I don’t mind upgrading the stretch if it’s overall good layout with potential.
What have you done to the engine?
@@chaseteter Just A BG oil tune up, K&N Air Filter and custom true duel Exhaust from the headers all the way back. Sounds awesome too!
This or rx300?
If they are the same price, Buy the Lexus, it is the better vehicle. But the RAV4 is cool 😎 😄👍.
