This game is incredible. I can't express how much I love it. Always something new. Only game that let's you become a race of sentient mushrooms 🍄 who enslave the entire galaxy.
I’m downloading it rn but that officially just sold me 😂
@@staticimage01 lmao me too
@staticimage lol now I need to buy this too, I've ALWAYS wanted to be a mushroom! 😂
"become a race of sentient mushrooms who enslave the entire galaxy" should be in the promotional material lmao
Aaaaaand sold!
Stellaris is an intimidating, yet immensely rewarding experience.
Intimidating. The scope and size is what has kept me from trying it. I bought it recently during steam sales (Not because it deserved sale but because I'm a broke boi and work all the time.) and I just need to find enough time to play it, or try it. It's right up my alley genre but it's got such a huge scope... like... I grew up to Age of Empires Empire Earth and Civilization, Stellaris genuinely scares me.
Understandable, but it's not like you think it is. You do not forge the story by reading, you forge it with gameplay, if the gameplay is what you are looking for, you will get tons of it
That should be the tagline of all paradox games, except maybe HOI4 which is a bit simpler.
I refunded this shit
@@somemf6134 why?
just rounded 2000 hours yesterday, and STILL enjoying every minute. havent even started modding it yet
Whaaaaa, 2000 hours without mods? wow I admire your patience and anticipation, but I would suggest Planetary Diversity, Real Space, Frontiers, AlphaMod and Gigastructural Engineering, as well as a few aesthetic mods like United Flags, Emblems, Trace Rooms, SE Humans/ Humanoids when you wish to start dabbling for just an enhanced vanilla experience :)
Mod it. You'll get to 6k hours before boredom even remotely crosses your mind.
I feel you man, I just got this game like a week ago and I'm hooked on it. I'm playing one as a pacifist and one as a war monger. It's soo interesting seeing how both play. They're so different. I'm loving this game so far and I'm not gonna regret getting the dlc in time to come
5 years and I never deinstalled it. I sometimes didnt play for months, but I always knew I would be playing it soon anyway.
Get ready to get your wallet out for the dlc
Well, you've convinced me! And with the Steam Summer Sale going on this seems like a no brainer.
you can buy it on all key shop kinguin for 3 dollars and it is on steam
ah you convinced me to give the game a try, it was a bumpy learning curve, now a month later i love this game! thanks for the advice
Still playing it? Im curious if I should get it or not
@@kwipxd just got back to it a few days ago since i noticed there was a new DLC, man the game is really good! if you are gonna get the game do it now, i think it was on sell on steam, not sure if its gonna still be by the time you read this. have fun.
@@steamavila1818 the sale ends in the 6th for me and man I'm having a blast with it so far
Awesome video, I was thinking about buying because it's on a summer sale but now you fully convinced me! And its also really nice of you to list the dlcs and expansions! Great job!
I have apparently played this game for 1776 hours since it came out in 2016. I need to build Space America in my next game to comemorate this coincidence
Pick one rare resource as your 'oil' and "Liberate" whatever neighbor has a lot of it.
Natural gasses
Outstanding video, from quality to delivery to information gained. Very underrated channel!
Thank you for the video, you've answered every question that I had. Buying the game today.
Hilarious and informative. looking forward to your future content
You sold me on dedicating time to learning the game. I tried it multiple times after release and just couldn't get the hang of it, but it's been years at this point. Your scenario is the exact type of match I want to try. Subbed!
Just wanna say that you’ve ruined me 😂
Played the game nearly 5 hours straight, well into the night, and I am HOOKED!
I used to play space empire 4 gold with the devnull mod. This is basically an evolution of that.
I used to work towards tech to open & wormholes asap. Then you can control movent around the entire galaxy. Takes a while to get there, but worth it hehe.
1. Play on a free weekend to see if this game is for you in general
2. If you wanna buy it then just buy the basegame first and try it out for some time.
3. Ask someone to host you a game with all DLCs so you can try out DLCs
4. You made it here? Well you are hooked and are imprisoned into the endless Stellaris DLC buying loop. Like me.
Sidenote: Usually babysteps are done after 100 hours. "Tutorial" ends between 500-1000 hours. Then you really get a feel for all the mechanics.
The game is completely free on steam right now.
I'm downloading it at the moment, and I'm so freaking exited, it's so difficult to find good strategy games nowadays
Your comment kinda unnerved me, as I feel like they're pretty plentiful. Do you mean grand strategy? What's your cup of tea? Maybe I know some games you haven't tried.
@@will.roman-ros My cup of tea is more like the old setlers game series.
And I agree that there are good strategy games nowadays, but most of them are paid, I was talking about free to play games
So is it not free anymore?
@@spencer5372 Don't think so, it was free when I commented this (4 months ago)
Don't play the game anymore either so.
I'd say check it out on epic games or steam, it was limited time on epic games so I doubt it, sorry.
@@Jayden-uv2kk why don't you play anymore?
I finally bought this game last month and I can't stop playing it! Love your videos about it.
I have the base game from 2016 but played only for 6 hours. I'm a huge ( and old ) fun of space 4x starting from MMO, imperium galactica and so on, but Stellaris showed too much content that at that time I was scared. A deep game is nice but a too deep game is intimidating and potentially boring. I'll give it a try after this video. Thank you :)
So how did it go? I also played Imperium Galactica long long time ago and loved it, but this game is a little too much for me.
@@nikae09 hello, I tried.. really, but somehow it didn't click in me. Can't say why... Maybe it's really just too big for the little time I have now to play games...
Only just got into 4x games, never been into sci-fi, space, ect, but this looks fantastic and might just kick start my new addiction, cheers!!
playing the game at grand admiral with a bunch of devouring swarms, purifiers and exterminators around is the best strategy game experience i ever had.
Cheers for the great review, I’m going to get a copy of Stellaris now
Great video :) I was on the fence, but you convinced me!
How is it so far?
@@henriquefilipemarquesrosa8035 really enjoying it, messed up a fair amount my first run, but I'm getting the hang of it :)
Excellent information, you are great Stellaris should pay you for advertising 😁 I bought it on sale before even playing I watched your video, you got me excited to try it out!
Thanks dude for your review. I'm buying it now because of your video. Awesome!
Brother.... This is the best review of any game that I've ever seen! You were born for this! Direct, transparent, informative, and hilarious at parts! Thank you!!! Buying this game and also subscribing to your channel! Well done and very well presented!
This is a good video :) I enjoy how energetic you are about the topic and there's lots of juicy info! Thanks!
I've had more fun in the Stellaris species creator than I've had with whole games.
Just bought this on sale. Wish me luck and thanks for all your awesome videos...
Really cool chanel, I'm glad I discovered it !And the game sounds great too, we can feel the passion.
Bought it all the dlc on steam sale. Runs so amazing with Arch Linux native run time. Thanks for your review.
Paradox interactive is really good at that infinite replayability. EU4 is also really good for that.
I can't believe I am only now seeing this review, it's absurd that I almost skipped this game. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR REVIEWS!!!
Great review, thanks
Thank You!! I was just at the cusp of the moment you imagined: I've never played Stellaris, Should I dive in now??!! in June 2022? and which expansions and DLC? Your vid made it clear that for me, my answer is YES!!! and I'll figure it out along the way...
The amount of DLC seemed staggering, and initial reviews from 2016 were lackluster. but the complexity and growth of the game entices me. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I choose to see possibility! thanks for your enthusiastic words.
Thanks!
I love your enthusiasm for this game it's very contagious
I played this game on PS4 when it was on sale and enjoyed my time with it. But I feel like it would be better if I played it on PC since it it more up to date.
PC version is far superior. No doubt in that
@@Nyxson Do you know a good guide on how to install mods so the game doesn't crash?
I've been playing for about 4 years and it has changed my gaming experience. I have never played a game consistently for so long. With that being said you blew my mind with mods. I honestly didn't even know it was a thing for Stellaris, 10 more years of playing this game now lol
The description you stated at the start of the video... it resembles to the feeling of playing Civilization games.
Thanks buddy. Its on sale and I’m convinced!
Thanks for the review! I bought the base game a while back. Played a lot.. then left it for years... Now I want to get back into it but it just seems like such an overwhelming commitment! Any tutorial videos you suggest to learn the game? Thanks! Great review!
Montu's channel has great in-depth looks into the various mechanics of the game and Stephan Anon showcases meta builds.
@@aptspire Thanks man! Much appreciated!
So, it seems like Sid Myer's Civilization, but in space. I was hoping it was more up close and personal. Thank you for highlighting it.
Might pick this game up now that it's on sale for PS4. Looks like my cup of tea
Had no clue the game got this insane and I've been debating on purchasing it since the day it came out.
I have the core game but never install because the dlc. Watching your video convince me to install it brother, thank you!
Started to play the base game last night. It was daunting at first but I wanted to power through as I was always curious about these genre of games but had never managed to stick to one.
I have to say, I didn't feel the time pass, and went to bed at 1 a.m. lol I'm getting excited to play it again tonight.
This review answered a lot of the questions I had. Thank you!
Same
Answering your starting question, yes i do know a few games like that, these are: Crusader Kings 3, Rimworld and Oxygem Not Included (ONI)
Thinking about getting it in the Steam sale today!
hope you didin't cuz its free on prime gaming
wait OMG in just 2:30 my mind was blown! nice video
This video made me play it for 80 hours in the last week, shit.
summer sale right now picked up everything for $45
I feel like we should be able to assign scientists in the research stations on planets
Great Reviews my friend !
The part where he said customize your fleet sold me. Already so much good explained and then bam! Yes sir i am downloading this rn... paused the video just to type this lmmmaaaooo
Oh man, watch the video till the end now because we won't see you again for months 😂
@@Nyxson I did and currently am on 55% downloaded. Thank you for your bloody awesome review. Core game + dlc & expansions + mods just mark me as deceased i am never coming out of my gaming cave 🤣 You're defs on my top 3 for best reviews and I'll put you above everyone even *cough* IGN *cough* ahaha.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊😊
Subbed, great content, keep it up man :)
Can someone please tell me what version the xbox has on gamepass? Thinking of getting into this but it sounds like the base version is pretty weak but newer versions are so much better
future releases close to this game should include a general advisor to aid in setup and playthru! with option off of course! you could drown in it's complexity
But 1:30 in im like holy shit. You made The Foundation. You actually made The Foundation.
Thinking about getting the console edition for my ps5 but I was worried about all the dlcs and not knowing wether I shud get them
What would you say would be the best thing to do for someone thinking about buying the console version today 2022 and what procedure should they take hope to hear from you
I have no fuckin clue what I'm doing after 12 hours in 3.0
-Pops are constantly unemployed even though I flood planets Noah style with districts.
-Can't figure out how to halt pop growth.
-Stability is kind of a nightmare for me. Crime skyrockets earlier on because of all the factions.
-Factions
@J Weebo don’t overbuild to maintain good balance on planets your icon under planet summary that shows the little builder (jobs available) wants to be low.
If say you are building new places on your planet tiles and this number is high it won’t be efficiently doing its job just costing you energy credits for empty work buildings the idea is to time new buildings with new pops,
Population control is found under species tab under Set rights i believe.
As your planets fill up, pop growth will slow, but if you have a lot of unemployed pops, upgrade a starbase in a system with near empty or important worlds (like ringworlds or a ecumenopolis), and build a transit hub, which will raise the chance of auto resettlement to those worlds, and you can just let it go.
Drop the slaving until you understand the game better, build more amenities jobs and favorite those jobs by clicking on them, improve your species living conditions. Allow immigration controls and move pops from overloaded planets to relatively empty ones.
i played it when it first came out. kept running out of crystals. sounds like a completely different game
Terra Invicta is just such an example from the intro.... Wondering if I should buy this game now given my first space game was Terra Invicta, so really new to this genre.
After Terra Invicta, it will be really easy for you to learn this game. Also you will realise that some more clear visual indication on stats works wonders in a grand strategy game. :D
I've heard Terra Invicta is pretty impenetrable and a little less visually interesting. I'm still curious about it, but is is up to snuff?
Only other game I know that offers what this game offers is Donkey Kong Country 2. But seriously love this game, great summary.
So I've been thinking about getting this game again as I've played it before on consoles before the major updates. How difficult would you say it is to get back into now?
2022 UPDATE! I updated the title to 2022 because every word I said I STILL stand by in 2022. If anything major (good or bad) will change I will make a new video.
If you feel like its cheating and prefer to see IGN 2016 review on the top of the search results, let me know. Every opinion matters to me.
Usually renaming videos is a no no, but in this case I think its totally fine! I've never played a grand strategy game before. This looks immersive as heck tho. I might dive in..
How do you not have more subscribers? I just subbed. Good content.
Thank you! This video is exactly what I was looking for. I bought the game when it was released and never played it. I was recently wondering if it was worth it to play in 2022. Excited to jump in based on your recommendation.
Also, bless IGN but please don't send us back there.
WTF you have balls to rename without creating content
Here is a sub
Must feed.... For the Swarmmm!!!
Still love the Devouring Swarm playthroughs.
You sold me when you started talking about the mods
Just got the game for free on Amazon Prime Gaming:) I subscribed for a month for Jedi Fallen Order, WWZ Aftermath and Fahrenheit, but this is a nice addition to them:)
its on sale on steam now, thank you! ill try it :D}
I think I missed the sale :( There's only the bundle at 10% off.
I'd highly recommend endless space 2. I'm looking into this game after playing that one
The Civ franchise is like what you described in the beginning
$14 on steam right now- you convinced me to give it a crack. thank you for addressing that elephant in the room
Miss playing this so much
Its on sale at the moment for under $20 for the Galaxy Edition, think its time to take it off the wishlist.
No! Don't get Galaxy Edition! It doesn't have DLCs
Just asking for some info, hoping for answers even if the video is quite old.
The base game is improved in the diplomatic and "foreign politics" aspects or is always again a "start game-create fleet-start war & kill everyone"?
Does stellaris finally has a proper diplomatic part like EU4 for exemple?
Well, first of all, the review is not old, not much has changed since the review, only few balance changes (and 1 species pack).
And video itself explained diplomacy as it is now (and you can say for sure that it is definitely not just "kill everyone").
So yes, diplomacy is pretty advanced now. Maybe not EU4 level (it is much older and mature game after all) but definitely not far behind and way ahead compared what it was
@@Nyxson thanks. Didn't wanna brag with the "old review" part I swear lol
Btw thanks I appreciate the answer. I'll just pass it then: a 4x strategy game not focused on a specific war scenario (like HoI series for exemple) should have a core diplomacy aspect for me and seeing online even between the base games EU4 has more complexity (or can we say just more possibility).
I'll wait for V3 🙏
If you are looking for sheer complexity of the war scenarios, Stellaris can NEVER beat HOI or EU4, this game simply has way too many variables in it bases to grow to such scenarios (you can say that if Stellaris, HOI and EU4 were hills, HOI and EU4 would be much taller, while Stellaris much wider).
However I would still urge you to try, because it is completely different experience unlike anything else (if you can afford to try it of course)
A game with so many paid DLC always make me feel great when I torrent them. This is a superb game!
The only other games with anywhere near this depth are the other Paradox grand strategy games (HOI4, EU4)
A great review! You should engage more with the Stellaris community!
ty very much man.my hero
Vannishing interface buttons is starting to become standard in CZcams...
I had created a federation that ended up encompassing all but 3 of the other empires (through alliance, trade deals or "liberation" when necessary) and the big southern neighbor I was hoping would join had status quo'd against his robot uprising. I was about to have them join when the robots asked to become a protectorate. I agreed so they wouldn't rise up against us. Unsurprisingly the big empire didn't want to join their sworn enemy so I pulled a little trick to change their minds.
(This next bit plays like the Simpsons episode with Lionel Hutz in court where he hides his necktie)
"So, it's the NEX you hate?
-Yes, I'm not joining those damned exterminators.
-Huh-uh, can you tell me what they look like.
-Obviously, they're those saucer headed clankers.
*My empire looks down at the obvious saucer-headed robots that are my vassals.*
-Ah...but... you see... (13 years of empire integration noises).. you thought... you saw exterminators... but in truth... (turns around after integration) there are no NEX robots around!
*Audience gasps*
-Oh, I could've sworn... well, then I guess I'll join your federation.
-Then let's shake on it."
*A handful of broken NEX robots spill out of my sleeve as we shake hands.*
...I can appreciate this :)
Dwarf Fortress is one of those games you were describing
Just found out you can terraform some barren worlds the other day, I've been playing for like 800 hours.
Could you review X4: Foundations ?
2:14 "wait until the real crisis will start"
*me who watched the first 2 minutes of the video*
it hasn't even started yet?
Oh man, this game has crisis after crisis at all stages of game: Pirates, hostile neighbors, the horde, fallen empires, awakened empire, AI uprisings, struggles with galactic community and politics, Unbidden, Scourge... to name a few.
You will always fight with something
@@Nyxson well that's exciting, i like to play strategy and empire building games such as civilization and total war but im not sure if i can handle the micro in grand strategies they look overwhelming.
Stellaris do have a learning curve, but it is still simplest of all Paradox grand strategies.
Just give it time, play on lower difficulty at first and you will be fine (especially if you love scifi)
Eve online is similar in terms of not knowing what to do for a long time
Good video. Currently debating getting the console edition or not.
The console edition is inferior to the PC one. It is few DLC's and updates behind
Despite being "inferior", console is still pretty great. They ported controls better than I ever imagined they could.
Do you know if there is a trisolaris mod from the three body problem series?
At the beginning of the video your asked of we know any games "like that" and i have one for you its called "From the Depths".
Wait - did you say star trek mods? Like, can I become the Borg and assimilate everyone? OR what about the "Founders" (shapeshifters) from DS9, they were super diplomatic in their "ruling"
Yes. There was a total conversion Star Trek mod that allowed you to play pretty much with every every Star Trek races (not sure of its still supported though)
good stuff, people should review stellaris more
The game recommendation you're looking for is the original XCOM.
Thank you for recapping why IGN rated it the way they did and how the game has been fixed since then. Was DEFINITELY what I needed to hear.
I haven't played Stellaris yet I just downloaded it. But a game called PAX Imperial came out around 1997 That was a very good game. For many years I looked for a game that might be similar to PAX, it sounds like Stellaris might just be the one. Will let you know later.
The game is having a good content renaissance lately. There has never been a better time to play stellaris.
Other than "where all your sci-fi and space fantasies can come true" the answer to your opening question is Chess
Any Stellaris veteran here who can tell me how it compares to Crusader Kings 2 of old and new? CK2 of old had a massive learning curve when it did not have many dlc, really tough to play, required massive long term planning and was hard to manage but rewarding. Then, with each dlc it became easier, until we arrived at ck2 of today that is super easy to play and get overpowered in but still fun and rewarding in a way because most players make their own challenges anyway. So is it more like the old ck2 or paradox games or the new ones?
Not as dry as ck2.
Stability could be a bit better. Its improved but still, mid to late game can get slooooow and Laggy af
Dont mess with the pop growth settings and your experience will be much better
@@CommunistBot yes, the ones you choose before starting a new playthrough
You're a beauty. Great video dude.
Experience from a (masochistic) mod-using player:
- Cry because everyone is 10x stronger than you at the beginning. Oh, did I said that half of them are genocidal and hate my (and everyone else's) gut
When thing are stabilized, German cat happen. And someone's AI rebellion go around delete star system while endlessly resurrect because nanomachine son (until I crack their cheat tools after decades of research).
Then the fallen awaken, the galaxy are torn apart by their squable (and one random dude who go around pulling world into their magic dimension, and have several planet as spaceships), when some extragalactic hungry bugs decide to take part in the chaos. Did I said that someone is chasing them for fun? Yes, because that someone show up.
I literally have no idea why did I survive.
