    nice hands on, but do you know how the metal piece is activated at 100℃?And what happens if say you use the kettle at high altitude where say water boils at 90 ℃?

    • @AmateurInventor
      @AmateurInventor  Před 3 lety +1

      You got quite a nice question 😄, the turning off action is purely dependent on the variable lateral expandibility of metals which make the thermostat and it really doesn't care whether the water is boiling or not, if it gets sufficient heat, it will do its action and in the case you described, because the lid will be closed during the boiling process, the water will eventually reach 100°c producing steam of 100°c which triggers the thermostat. The auto off action will not teigger immediately after water starts boiling but it will happen after some. You may try and share the result with me 😉

    Good explanation thermal switches. But, best if you can clarify about HEATING MECHANISM. I mean whIch is Heating element, shape etc (long aluminium type sheet is heating element of central circular rings is heating element. It appears this is regular heating element and NOT RF based HEATING.

    I was happy after watching your video, but when I want repair my Phillips kettle I found that the screw head has three points instead of 4, it seems for safety reasons they want to discourage people due to possible fire hazards

    • @AmateurInventor
      @AmateurInventor  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, this is very likely, they are using different kind of screw to avoid general people to access the internals as specialized repair shop already have such screw drivers. If you are confident enough, you can go ahead, but if you're skeptical, you may want someone else to repair that.

      @@AmateurInventor yeah I was wondering why the bimetallic strip on the handle is needed at all, can a kettle function off the other one instead

    • @AmateurInventor
      @AmateurInventor  Před 3 lety +1

      there is a very clever reason behind this. you may have noticed that when water boils, it not only turns off power to the kettle but ols pushes the manual switch to off position preventing kettle to power up once again after the bimetallic strip had cooled down. and if there was only one metallic strip locate at the bottom as you said then still everything will work fine but the kettle will start again and again after the bimetallic thermostat cools down and you will have to manually power off the kettle to stop this behaviour otherwise. hope this made it clear. subscribe if you think my efforts worth your time🙂
