When I was a very young child in the 1940's, my parents would sometimes take me to visit a senior couple my father's family had known for decades. The lady of the house had this very same music box and would play it for me as a treat. It totally fascinated me because it was so life-like. I would beg to see it again and again, until the lady said "OK, this is enough for this time. We don't want to wear out the little bird." I was SO disappointed when it came time to put it back into the glass display case. What a treat to see it again after 70 years !
Testimony of human cruelty The sad part is that the feathers are real and are the real feathers of real humming birds. Thousands of them if not hundreds of thousands were killed to make those boxes. This is one of the saddest human invention. The beak is ivory, the feathers are humming birds, so to make this box, two types of animals were killed.
@@kylolf9963 yes, but they died for art (swishes shawl and jingles bangles and plastic beads for dramatic effect). I know it freaking sucks how so many birds were killed.
I'm from Vietnam. Back in the 90s,My grandfather used to have one. It was made of carton board with nice flower cover like a little gift box , open it and the small wooden bird inside starts to chirp, the sound is very natural with mono pause every few seconds. It's such a nostalgic toy... i wish we could have it nowaday.
My Grandmother sold these ..and bought them in London .. Burmensy Market is a area where Antique dealers had these.. But this one is near mint making it absolutely fantastic. That was in 1994..1995.. The Antique Market in CA was on Fire.. Sold alot of Rookwood pottery.. Found an unsigned Kitaro Shirayamadani pitcher for 1500.00 Doctor in Ohio paid 10 000.00 those were the Good old days before Ebay. Thanks for sharing your Treasure. 🕎
Ahhh, it's incredible what can be done with intricate clockwork. I appreciate this as a collector of wrist watches as they are so similar in terms of the craft. Thank you for the video! :)
The card seems to be a card identifying the shop only - like for advertising. A certificate or a bill would have been welcomed instead. We can read Recu 10 000 fr. This can be an advance on the real price or for a reparation. No obvious direct relation between the card and the object presented .

so question, do you know how they work/have any blueprints [I want to make my own but so far I have not been able to finding anything on the internal parts other than a few unhelpful pictures]
I just saw one like this on Little House & loved it so I decided to look it up to buy one......omg the cheapest was 3500.00 up to 10,000.00. I won't be purchasing it but it's beautiful!!!!!

I don't know about the fabrication, but this wonderful box was most likely bought in 1900 or later, since the receipt has a metro indication, and the Paris metro opened in 1900.
I didn't even know they made things this exquisite, just saw one similar on the new episode of the teletubies with the kiddos. my daughter wants one, I guess not at those prices lol. I was definitely born in the wrong era.
Very nice. Thvictorian period was an incredible time of details and masterpieces that nothing else compares to. How did you ever become so specialized in this particular field of expertise?
No, not like these. All the ones you see, like this one here, are vintage. A lot were handmade and date back to the 1800s. And the little birds were made with real bird feathers.

How much would a box like this cost?
It is the best I have seen.
Absolutely astounding and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
When you lifted the box it looked like you just found the grail lol
I blew on my screen to make the fly go away before I realized is was your profile pick lol🤣
I had to touch my iPhone to get the fly off hahaha
Such breath-taking lovely art 💖
this box is probably more expensive than me.

This one is my favorite, I love the first line.
Tout simplement magnifique. J'adore.
It's beautiful. One thing I don't understand - what's the point of putting on ONE glove as we can clearly see you touch the box with bare hands?

Santo cielo que bello😍
I was just watching Sherlock Holmes Dressed to Kill 1946 at 13:00 they showed one of these.
Exquisite
oiseaux have a special taboo sybolism in French, which gives the box a definite air of comedy. flageolet is a kind of pea, it's cool to say jeolot.
Wish I could afford these
Wow the bird sound is wonderful. Is any chance to see inner workings? :)
Its like a coco clock but for a rich person
Can someone give me link to site that tell you how to repair singing bird music box. I have one but the tune heard monotune.
Superrrrrrr
I'm Amazed there is not one dog hair on that mat!!

I saw one of these in the 1968 movie Secret Ceremony.
Entertainment/toys nowadays are plastic. A survivor indeed.
one glove why?
I want this!!!!!!!!!
That poor bird, he got his face slap by lid 🤣
He actually just made it inside before he got slapped.
Sounds like Carl Sagan of bird boxes
Puts glove on, grabs key with bare hand.
