The role of deferral is changing in elite early action colleges. It's starting to look more like Early Decision deferrals--mass deferrals with lower acceptance rates. With that model, you can expect somewhat predictable behavior.

Never despair, yet always cultivate multiple options. I get students in to amazing colleges and universities off of deferrals every year. If you play it right, your odds are better than your think.
