As a West Coast supporter when the MCG made contracts with the AFL to asure that a game in the finals at MCG was played every week in the finals, with negotiations made exclusively with Victorian club presidents and board members, leading to sides outside of Victoria having finals they earned the taken away up until 2004, is something that should be acknowledged and those in Victoria concede that was unfair policy. Also there needs to be a shift in perspective that the competition expanded not teams joining Victoria's competition. Clubs from professional levels essentially equal to the VFL in the SANFL and WAFL established over 100 years ago and deserve the proper respect for the AFL becoming the strong national game it is in 2024.

They Finally put a good team together and then get all their finals at home next door to their home ground. On top of that they get 16/17 home games in Melbourne Every year. But I do advocate interstate sides building secondary MCG like grounds that can also be used for cricket, and more access to the MCG for interstate sides.
Why don't they convert the old Football Park to an MCG type ground that holds 25 thousand, use it for cricket and a ground where home games are transferred to, to even up the comp. And the other sides likewise. I am an advocate of diversity of grounds and evening up the home ground advantage of the MCG for finals.

My competition equalisation measure is a fixture overhaul where every single team plays each other once and then we have an 18th game held in Round 20 known as rivalry round where no team has to travel (all teams get 2 byes, hence 20 rounds). The interstate teams play their instate opponents and big Vic teams get to play their main rivals which sets up really exciting win-and-in scenarios (e.g. Adelaide must beat Port to make the finals). This schedule also opens up the possibility for State of Origin to return. This should also reduce injuries and we can return to having 3 preseason games so players can get game time under their legs

Yeah, make it harder for teams outside Victoria to retain talent and let them go to the opposite sporting code. That’ll really teach Sydney for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of their funds to grow and develop the game, find players from very young ages, teach them afl and help pay for location costs and introduce talent that grows the AFL in an NRL-dominated state! How terrible of them to do that!

Have academies, proper home grounds, top draft picks for years to the newer teams eg. Gold Coast/GWS. A game created in Victoria has done a lot to spread this game nation wide. I'm a West Coast supporter and he's 100% right. If you don't think the Victorian football league is biased towards the Victorian football league teams you are kidding yourself. It is not the AFL. I look at the fixturing. I look at the umpiring. I look at the way the games are scheduled the travel and everything else that goes on even 85% of the umpires are from one state. How do you explain 85% of the umpires are from one state and that Victoria can you also explain to me how the Victorian teams are constantly propped up with money that the interstate teams are bringing in? It is beyond a joke this league now move the AFL out of Victoria. Yes I actually think AFL House should be either in Canberra or somewhere neutral maybe even Adelaide or Perth but take the actual league itself out out of Victoria and then they might get an idea of what it's like. There are so many Victorian bias things that I see with the league it is beyond a joke. Why does the grand final need to be played in Melbourne? It's got nothing to do with how many people can fit in a ground. That's a ridiculous argument. We've seen grand finals in Perth and we've seen them in Brisbane and have a great matches. It had nothing to do with how many people could get into the ground. It should be at the highest rating team gets the Home grant advantage just like everything else, but that would upset the bloody Victorians

In MELBOURNE. Why on earth would we have a grand final in small stadiums? To appease smaller interstate clubs? If you want the grand final maybe just maybe build a staduim but at least comes close to the MCG. And as for fixturing to you want to know why so many Victoria teams don’t travel because most teams are in Melbourne most of the Victorian teams use the mcg for home games then you have the rival clashes as well what kind of dumb fixture would not have Collingwood v Essendon twice or Collingwood v Carlton it’s the same for the derby.

its funny cause most of what you’re complaining about has logical and reasonable explanations, like did you not think for 1 second that maybe just maybe there are hugely larger numbers of football leagues/clubs/players/umpires in victoria due to its population and love for the sport and thus that might reflect in the % of numbers that come from victoria? no đŸ’© things are skewed in vics favour when TEN of the 18 sides are from the state
like mate use your brain, why and how does it not make sense to you that the birth place of the sport which also overwhelmingly has the most professional teams and participants at amateur level is also the centre of the sport
woah what a crazy concept! i cant believe they wouldn’t put important afl facilities in places like perth or adelaide which inherently would get far less use our of them due to their population oh and it would make it incredibly more difficult for the people that actually need to use the facilities to get there, good thinkin tho mate very good logic used there!

There really is nothing we can do about the travel issue for interstate teams currently, clubs just have to suck it up. The only thing would be to stop making interstate teams travel to Tasmania etc when they play north Melbourne or Darwin against Melbourne.
The grand final debate is completely different and regardless of capacity if a team wins the right to a home grand final they should be able to play it at their home ground. The supporters shouldn't have to fork out thousands of additional dollars in travel expenses to watch their team play in a grand final because the MCG can fit more people in the stands.
