Great reaction - and blasting Gimme Chocolate in the car already. I had the same 6 CDs (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Megadeth, The Beatles, Genesis and a couple more that got swapped in and out once in a while) in my car for over 10 years. There was nothing new that really grabbed me or interested me much - and then I discovered BABYMETAL and those CDs have been replaced by the first album, the second album, the live at Wembley album and the two CDs from the Japanese version of the third album ... the last of my 6 old CDs is still in there - until I get my hands on another BABYMETAL CD.
So welcome to the BABYMETAL galaxy - enjoy the ride.

Being confused is perfectly fine, especially with this song. There are usually three stages: 1. WTF? - 2. It is quite interesting. - 3. Damn, it's good, I want more!
BABYMETAL started as a subgroup of a Japanese Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. They splintered off to continues separately, their goal being to make Metal more accessible to a new demographic that hasn't felt drawn to it before. But it's not only Metal and J-Pop, they also incorporate various other genres into their songs as well. As you have witnessed, it's an odd combination, but somehow they manage to make it work very well.
But it's not just the music. The dancing, the smiles and the overall positive attitude add to the fascination as well. But there's more. Once you watch a real live performance, you'll see that the fantastic musicians, Su's amazing live vocals, the cool stages and the girls' stage presence, and they energy that they deliver and that the crowd reflects add up to a perfect package.
Gimme Chocolate is one of the more poppy tunes, but at the same time it's pretty heavy as well. There are poppier songs, and there are heavier songs, and they are always interesting. And no two of them sound the same.
I'd recommend checking out the song "Headbanger": czcams.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/video.html . You can't go wrong with any song, but there are videos that will certainly get blocked, so I'd recommend sticking with fan recommendations.

Logically something was wrong, but my ears and heart really enjoyed it. Btw, I'm a 48 year old man and I now listen to/watch them often. The best thing is that, if you already like metal, then it gets better from here. Great reaction! I'm glad you gave them a chance. BABYMETAL have performed with, toured, or opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, and Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of this performance), to name a few of many. BABYMETAL has been around for TEN years and have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 50,000+ metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ more songs and each one is unique. This song is not their best but it went viral. I hope you check out their other songs which people have recommended in the comments. The more you listen to them, you will see why we love them. I don't know that I'd say it was a recent interview. He has said that he's been a fan since back in like 2017 when his son got him into them, but still, they have a lot of high praise. Hell, if you perform with the likes of Rob Halford of Judas Priest, RHCP, Korn, and have the backing of other huge bands like Metallica, SlipKnot, and Rob Zombie, you have to have some serious talent and ability to perform at a high level. They would have called them out for just being a gimmick first if they truly were, but they absolutely shred and these guys recognized it immediately and jumped on board!

Welcome to Babymetal! I was confused in 2012 too when I first heard it but I listen nearly everyday now. I've long been a fan of Japanese culture as well so I get a lot more of the meaning in some of it all ("The Fox God", Kami Band, Kitsune...etc) as it isn't all just random things. Most of their songs are in Japanese as well so most people don't fully get what the lyrics are without assistance. I will say....they are all positive lyrics, nothing offensive (especially when they were little girls). Excellent band, talented and hardworking young women who'd make great role models for young girls. I love this band. Edit: Oh. The musicians are members, there have been some changes at times when touring (which may be due to visas and such) and one of the original Kami Band members did pass away.

  • @mr.osclasses5054
    @mr.osclasses5054 Před 3 lety +2

Everyone else has covered the "WTF?!" reaction that this video causes, so I'll let that be. Something interesting to note is that BABYMETAL isn't just the name of the band, it's how the describe the new genre of metal they created, called "Kawaii" metal, or "cute". So the "baby" is the genre because of how new it is. They were formed for many reasons. One was to help revive the metal scene in Japan, which was on life support, at best, back in 2010 when they formed. They were also formed as a way for girls to have a way into metal that isn't the hardcore stuff everyone is used to. Most metal was way too hard and dark for a lot of girls in Japan to really get into. This gave them an in with the choreography and singing over the harder music of the band.
The three girls are Suzuka Nakomoto (aka Su-Metal, the queen, or just Su), who was 12 when they formed and is now 22, Moa Kikuchi (aka Moametal, or even Princess Moa) and Yui Mizuno (aka Yuimetal) both of whom were 11 and now are 21. Yui left the group in 2018, but that's a story for later.
A lot of great suggestions have already been given for songs to listen to. I will gladly subscribe to see more reactions to them. Keep'em coming!

The Kami Band were introduced back in October 2012 at 'Legend I' with a two song encore of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' and 'Ijime Dame Zettai'.

The BABYMETAL members are very aware that "What the heck?" is a common first reaction.
That's one reason some of their early videos went viral. They look at this as a way of getting their foot in the door.
Mosh'sh pit is short for Moshoushou. Which means a safe, yet enjoyable, mosh.
Check out the live version of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' at Sonisphere 2014 for an example of that.
'Gimme Chocolate!!' is their most popular music video (as you noticed, over 120 million views).
It's also the only song they've performed on US television (The Colbert Show).
Su often gets the crowd to sing along in live performances of this song.
They have been joined on stage for this song by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce.
Not all at the same time though. : )
Looks like folks have already recommended 'Karate' and 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!'. Those are solid choices for the next song.

It took them a couple years to get a full time live band. They played with recorded music in the beginning. But they've had full live music since 2014. That concert was Legend of 1997 and it was half live and half recorded. It was late in 2013.

The band onstage with them are just miming and isn't their regular band, this was so the company could release a perfect OFFICIAL VIDEO RELEASE. In just 2 nights Babymetal performed in front of 110,000 people at the Tokyo Dome, They're megastars in Japan. Welcome to Babymetal! This fox hole is deep, but don't worry! It's super friendly here! A lot of the veteran fans habe already been through and answered all the questions, so I'll just add my few cents and leave you with a recommendation.
Firstly, Babymetal is a live preformance act, they've called themselves so, and have won many Best Live Act Awards to prove so. However, their MVs are worth a look at since they are brilliantly done and give more insight into the songs. A cool thing to do for reaction channels is to watch the MV, then follow up with the lives.
If you do continue with Babymetal, you're bound to notice their signature hand sign. While very similar to the traditional "devil horns" used for rock in general, it is actually a variation where the pads of the middle and ring finger are pressed against the pad of the thumb. This creates the hand gesture of a fox (kitsune) in Japanese culture shadow play. When the producer showed the girls the "horns", they mistook it for the fox sign and since the Fox God is a big part of their lore, they ran with it lol!!!
Gonna recommend you Karate and Megitsune MVs. Please follow-up with the lives. Also, my current fav, Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro live at Budokan (venue) Black Night (concert title).
    Kitsune up! \m/

Whatever how you feel now,I can say that there is mix feeling and thought in your head right now. "give me chocolate" is not a good start for knowing Babymetal since its not cover their entire ability of performance & messages.
If you want to see some effort and real performance go on "Road of Resistance" or "Headbangerrr!" live from Legend 1997. Not saying GC is bad,but maybe for most of people that haven't get used to Babymetal will be feel unusual.

    > "Are the musicians hired guns?"
Well... First: In this particular performance there are no musicians at all but some guys (called BABYBONES) pretending to play the instruments. However: They have real musicians that support them. And they are top-notch and are called Kami-Band (Band of Gods)! But they are not (officially) a part of BABYMETAL. So far, so confusing...
I also want to mention, this ("Gimme Chocolate") is far from being their best song. Though it's nearly impossible to pin down what is their best song from asking fans of them. The reason is: They are ridiculously diverse in terms of sound and combination of genres of all kinds with metal music!. But let me copy-paste some facts and some recommendations for future reactions:
BABYMETAL is around since 2010 when the three girls were 11 and 12 years old (the performance you have seen was from December 2013). They originally were part of the school-themed idol-project Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy) but parted from SG in 2013 to become an independent act. Back then the band mainly consisted of three girls: Suzuka Nakamoto (aka. SU-METAL, lead vocals) Yui Mizuno (aka. YUIMETAL, backing vocals and dance) and Moa Kikuchi (aka. MOAMETAL, backing vocals and dance) complemented by a bunch of stellar musicians called Kami-Band (Band of Gods) at their live performances.
They already have five albums out:
    "BABYMETAL", rel. 2014 (studio album)
"Live at Budokan - Red Night Apocalypse", rel. 2014 (live album)
"Metal Resistance", rel. 2016 (studio album)
"Live at Wembley", rel. 2016 (live album)
"Metal Galaxy", rel. 2019 (studio album)
BABYMETAL also has several live recorded shows out on DVD/Blu-Ray which is a good thing because, believe it or not, they are one of the best live bands out there (which earned them many best-live-act-awards). They also never get boring because of their diversity in music styles. Regardless they always manage to stay recognizable. Unfortunately, Mikio Fujioka (their lead guitarist) died from an accident in January 2018 and Yui Mizuno left BABYMETAL in fall 2018 because of health reasons. But despite all that, the band is going strong and achieved, as first Asian act ever, a number one notation at the billboard rock charts with their recently released album "Metal Galaxy".
My recommendations for the start are:
*"Ijime, Dame, Zettai"* live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 in the UK czcams.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/video.html
*"Karate"* live at Download Festival 2016 in the UK czcams.com/video/qXF94RGYEmw/video.html
*"Rondo of Nightmare"* live at Nippon Budokan in 2014 czcams.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/video.html
    *"Syncopation"* live video compilation czcams.com/video/uZ11JUZM8V0/video.html
*"Road of Resistance"* live at Saitama Super Arena in 2015 czcams.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/video.html
*"Shanti Shanti Shanti"* live at Glastonbury Festival 2019 in the UK czcams.com/video/w5AlEavdipA/video.html

Because Rock stars stopped being Rock stars, thus us fan flocking to 30 year old bands. Technology gave us the ability to rip off artist and so on and so on.
