David Nissim I’ve been blessed to see the current line up of Testament with Gene Hoglan and Steve Di Giorgio three times during the Dark Roots of the Earth tour and the Brotherhood of the Snake tour and they really are the sickest rhythm section! The physical wall of sound and feel that Steve Di Giorgio emits with his bass combined with Gene Hoglan’s absolutely amazing technical and groove oriented style of playing, is something to experience live. You physically feel the music! Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick shred it as usual with their guitar playing! And of course Chuck Billy’s vocals are just as good if not better live and that’s super important because most bands fall short in that category when preforming. I just hope that this coronavirus nonsense blows over soon so I can see Testament in concert again especially considering how epic and badass their new album is! But to circle back to Testament’s rhythm section, I just can’t say enough good things about Di Giorgio And Hoglan. They truly compliment each other’s playing and they both know their roles in the composition of the songs. Together they add so much depth and skill to the band and when you see and experience them playing live, you can’t help but know that you have witnessed something special! They don’t call both of those guys The Rhythm Section Of The Apocalypse for nothing!

You can tell that Gene was caught off guard, but that probably had more to do with him saying it with the camera being there. Anyone who knows how close these guys were know that it wasn't a big deal. When one sees how the situation was for the leading up to Chuck's final days , it's easy to tell that they didn't have the kind of weak friendships that would be affected by that. It especially puts into perspective how insignificant a comment like that would seem to them. You often heard gallows humor come from war veterans and trauma survivors for a reason and it wasn't because they didn't care about what they were talking about.

Bobby & Joey Vera in Fates Warning, that's a seriously talented rhythm section (and the music is more interesting than Bach's imo). New album coming hopefully this year \m/

@@88omair No doubt. Fates Warning has been a hard band to get into for me, mainly because John Arch's singing is like nails on a chalkboard. Is the new singer any different sounding? The music is fine though.

@@TheJollyMisanthrope oh duuude, Arch left the band way back in the 80s, his voice definitely is an acquired taste and I don't really listen to the Fates albums he's on. I'd suggest checking either their last album "Theories of Flight" or "Parallels" (which is their most famous probably), both are two of their best. Top notch musicianship and songwriting, without the wankery that prog metal bands typically indulge in

@@TheJollyMisanthrope as a primer, from Theories I'd suggest listening to Seven Stars and From the Rooftops.
From Parallels I'd suggest Leave the Past Behind and Eye to Eye.
Then you'll know which album's sound intrigues you more atm :).
Sorry for the lengthy message! I just think Fates is criminally underrated (and I used to be a Dream Theater fan wayyy back in the day). Fates is one of metals finest and underrated bands Imo. Cheers 🤘🏼

Doesn't matter how they do it now. They are and always will be Chuck's songs forever. Death is Chuck, Death to all is Chuck and Symbolic is Chuck. Put as much twist into the songs , they will always be Chuck and Death.
