The interesting moment about this episode I thought was when Jamie leaves the van and Jack takes over. In the span of a couple of seconds, Jamie goes from having all the power, to being no one. The symbol holds the power, and the moment he leaves the van he gives that up. One of the most common themes in BM is mob mentality and the illusion of anonymity, and this is a perfect example of that. The bystanders in that scene likely believed Jamie when he said he was the voice of Waldo, but as soon as a new voice steps in they don't care. The voice behind the character doesn't matter, just the character itself. And in that way, by being fictional, Waldo is more real than any of them.
true friend
skysthelimit112 reminds me of philosopher Deleuze's discussion on simulacrum, in how it's defining characteristic is the lack of a prior identity.
Yeah , and in the end ...Jamie looks at the big screen seeing waldo being popular worldwide ..and he is angry that he lost all that fame and money
Even though he hated the Waldo character, he should've played the game and at least got some credibility and fortune out of it, rather than were he ended up.
@@thunder9394 I don't think he wasn't angry at lost fame and money. I think that he felt guilty that he had created a monster and that it had become so powerful. When Jamie quit he was telling people if you vote for Waldo, you're an idiot, it's less than a wasted vote - that was Jamie's attempt at pulling the plug and killing Waldo, but it had already gained too much traction unfortunately.
This episode was before its time
JustInsanity
yeah
Before our God-Emperor Trump.
Slootyboot bruh i wasn't sure cause there acutaly pepole who think so
Maybe because it was predicting the future...
Isn’t that the goal of all Black Mirror episodes?
5 quid to anyone who throws their shoe at someone who says this is the worst episode!
I love that there is somebody out there that made this account. Also your profile picture is fucking terrifying.
👞 The shoes are off. COMMENCE THE HATERS!!!
This is the worst fuckiny episode. Fight me.
Octavian Blackthorn
Someones opinion differs from yours? Wow, they’re definitely, 100% a hater.
/s
Come out me bro
This episode is so brilliant when you look at the last US election with Trump being elected and thousands of votes being submitted for Harambe. This episode basically predicted the future makes me scared to get into my thirties I might be biking for merits by then lol
Eli97 😂😂
Already happening....biking is your job and merits is money...
Fifteen million merits was one of the deepest episodes of black mirror
You and everyone else who isn't rich are already biking for merits. Myself included.
The Waldo Moment is usually people's least favourite episode of Black Mirror, but given the uh... recent political developments I found it to be much better on a recent rewatch.
why?
Thats a fucked up way to spell favorite
that's the English spelling
Really, worse than the first episode? That pig stuff was stupid, the pm and his family would not be safe if be didn't fuck a pig lmao
Personally, Playtest was the only episode I cant watch more than once because I was just bored most of the time.
I just checked the IMDB reviews of this episode. People are just so wrong. Everyone saying it's stupid and can never happen. Well here we are.
It can never happen here is a foolish line to say, because it can happen here, be it tyranny or voting for a talking bear.
@Gurdeep Singh Nijjar Yeah to be honest Trump is a tame teddy bear compared to half the other politicians. a lot of them have some really shady connections and people they know.
@Gurdeep Singh Nijjar I'm not comparing Trump to some CGI bear, when i used teddy bear i meant as a teddy bear not as anything related to the episode.
Trump does has policy and agenda's he does stand for something, he is very boastful about them as well.
@Gurdeep Singh Nijjar MSM? Dude I watch him speak directly. There is no difference.
Oh yeah, here we are. I remember last week when I was beat up and arrested for sleeping.
Anyone else think that Jamie looks like an older Kenny from "shut up and dance"
PhoeniksoftheStorm I thought they were twins I seriously kept thinking he was an older version of him!!
OmG NOooOOo
Well my thing was more that the actors look the same and Black Mirror made it clear that each episode really isn´t connected in any way. So it could have been the same actor playing different roles
for me he looks like older and chubbier Dane Deehan
PhoeniksoftheStorm It’s not the same actor lmao
A squirrel won a senate seat in my college. This episode just had to remind me.
I saw this over a year ago and it haunts me. You have to tell me more
This one is the most sinister to me because it essentially came true. Nosedive is something already pretty evident in our lives with social medias, who knows what else could happen.
Wow, you're special... I haven't noticed the worldwide Imperial Regime of a cartoon character conquering nations like wildfire.
Give minions some time.
Wait and soon enough youl'll se ICBM's with Pepe the frog's face on it
If you think Social Media is bad, wait until you hear about the "social credit score" in China.
@@natem1579 It's sci-fi dude! It reflects the times we're in metaphorically, not literally! And it doesn't necessaryily happen like "wildfire" it happens like a lobster being slowly boiled to death. The water just keeps on getting hotter and it's out of your control! I see Donald Trump as a big orange cartoon character myself. And he's not funny either... TRUMP IS DANGEROUS TO OUR SOCIETY AS A WHOLE just like the obnoxious little blue guy in this episode! We need to be supporting people like MARIANNE WILLIAMSON for president who has integrity and who wants to truly be a servant of the people and not to dominate them! LOVE IS THE ANSWER!!!
I think the general dislike for this episode comes from the fact that it has proved to be the most realistic. Trump in America, Boris and Brand in the UK, even Bepe Grillo in Italy, these political figures are characters rather than honest personalities. And people vote, follow and support them, despite the fact they have relatively little to say outside of their outsider personalities. People generally don't like to realise when they've been duped, and Waldo is very much representative of that.
Daniel Pelosi I just thought it was because it was boring
abbz120 it as boring AF SPEAK!!! PREACH!!!
the day the episode came out was the very same day beppe grillo founded his (pseudo)political party. I was just utterly shocked at how similar the story was. A world where people are proud of their ignorance, blindly follow their blunt, idiotic leader, and mock and attack (often verbally, sometimes even physically) anybody who tries to bring any discussions at the table. Brooker is a very smart individual indeed.
Waldo doesn't really compare to Trump. Trump is someone with real policies and stances. Waldo is just someone who provides an optional vote for people who hate politics.
rayamert "real"
Every one ignores the fact that Gwen admits to being a murderer!
Facts!!!!!!!

The Waldo Effect has always been one of my favorite Black Mirror episodes. For me, it's about how powerful forces can manipulate "f**k you" politics for their own ends. The final scene where Jamie is beaten up by cops because he tosses a bottle at a huge screen displaying Waldo images along with empty slogans like "Change" highlights this.
most of it is empty- some might even say it's not merely prescient but also is harkening back to Obama. What *did* he stand for anyway? What did "change" exactly even mean? It's all empty, even the supposed rebels. The WHOLE thing is a farce from start to finish...at least THATS WHAT WE THINK! Or, are MADE to think!! After ll, there IS a worse possibility, a fascist future to fear in reality, as depicted in the end.
"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes."
Gordon Freeman: *Transported to a train station during the conclusion of The Waldo Effect*
Been looking forward to this analysis! I find the Waldo Moment to be one of the most underrated Black Mirror episodes, as it intelligently dissects modern politics with such brevity and elegance. When it first came out, many thought it was just a poke at Russel Brand, and while there may be some parallels, it's an episode that's only grown in terms of scale with time.
Raycevick ye
Raycevick agreed
Donald Trump is Waldo
I thought it was a funny episode personally. I don't see why people don't really like it.
Same! Everyone told me this was a weak episode but I actually really liked it :)
I find it hilarious that Wii Sports is the 3rd best selling game in history. It makes sense since it was pagackaged for free with every Wii, but it's hilarious nonetheless.
Same with mario games.
Wii Sports and Wii Sports resorts was fun though. I just wish they had online multiplayer. I wanted to bowl with people all over the world.
Wii sports was fun though
@@user-zd2kl9yg4v Mario games are great
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouse have i said they are not? I only noted, that they were packaged with every NES.
Huh. I find it very interesting how, unlike other TV shows or movies, Black Mirror episodes have a very weird kind of climax, one that doesn't resolve anything, just a very dizzy feeling where it's like everything you watched was just the foreplay for what really matters: your thought process.
I just would have liked them to explore the identity crisis part of the episode where Jamie knows he is Waldo, but he is nothing without Waldo, like a kind of "Give someone a mask and they'll show you their true face, but some faces are better off keeping the mask for people to want to look at them". His choice of quitting and him becoming homeless came a little too abruptly, it would have been so much more impactful had they built up to it. What I got from it is that Jamie thought he was the center of attention and couldn't handle it, but when quitting, all he did is killing his golden goose because too many people wanted eggs from it. He was just the right guy at the right place who ruined things for himself for mistaking what's really popular: the situation he was a part of, not himself. I feel like there's something to be said about humility, and how you aren't your alter egos.
It's one of those episodes where it would have been much ore satisfying as a 90min movie. That wasn't an outstanding episode, but still very enjoyable.
I agree that it is not the best episode. But, with the recent turn of events, it is a very eerily truthful episode. As you said, BM's Charlie does not end his writing with happy or even completely explanatory scripts because it is supposed to make you think about and fear the forthcoming events. It is almost like Brooker predicted the events of all episodes. He makes them way too real, and it affects us like no other show has because every one of us has experienced the emotions in the show. People usually get tired of plot twists, but this show knows how to do them.
At this point, I would not be surprised if a cartoon was voted for in our world. Seriously.
I never agreed more to a comment
Nossair he ruined his career because he was too ethical. He realized if he continued he would be just the tool of the superior powers who are able to sway the democracy and public opinion just like many populist politic leaders right now, who seems like reality or cheap comedy show characters rather than standart politicians. It represents that due to political atmosphere of politicians coming and going and nothing changing people got disconnected from the reality of whats going on and these 'characters' are relating to them because they act like them or at least different from the norm and no matter what agendas they may have inside they dont need to reveal it openly unlike a proper politician would and thats how they are and will keep getting elected, which makes them perfect tools for the superior powers to use. Thats the fundamental problem with democracy and that episode summarizes it in a good way. People are flock and democracy is a system the shepherd fools the flock better wins in the end.
I believe the episode isn't shitty and that it's right on so many things it portrays but it still felt *bad* honestly, with the type of "climax" it used. Now, I'm no expert, but I know the ending was in MANY ways unsatisfactory and I wish it wasn't that way.
Twilight Zone
Love how the one people said was 'too far fetched' seems perfectly accurate years later
Nathan Gordon how is it at all accurate of what's recently happened politically? When has a cartoon made a difference in the political world?
ReadySetBlow1 watch the video review if you didn't understand the point, it might help.
LKRaider No i think he understands a point, but Trump or any other awful politician isn't a cartoon who flaps his cartoon dick around or shove his cartoon asshole against the screen and farts. That's just ridiculous.
LKRaider the fact that you’re just making us watch it again to prove your point just proves how clueless you actually are and how you’re just making yourself sound smart when you actually have no reasonable argument to present.
GetSchwifty!
You control the internet, you control the people
The way you talk and explain all of these Black Mirror episodes is just amazing. I wish you did more analysis videos 😍😩
Thanks honey, what do you think would be a good idea for an analysis video? Movies? Books? TV shows? Politics? Throw some ideas at me
Movies and TV shows would be great! Black Mirror, Stranger Things, Westworld, etc. :)
paintings?? I enjoy breaking down the meanings of Pablo Picasso and Salvidor Dali if there is any lmao sounds hard but amazing even though I guess its probably been done before
Had I the time and audience for that kind of thing, I'd do it. In my short film I referenced Dali's The Persistence of Memory, it's a tiny little thing but as I said if I could, I would.
I agree, you could do this with films, without getting in as much details. I'm sure you'll get more audience for it
Doesn't jamie kinda look like jackscepticeye? Mainly his face.
Kryocore Gaming He looks more like XRoomMod
Agreed
It was his beard that matched him with Jack for me, yeah.
Definitely
This is the lowest rated episode on imdb, anybody really hate this episode?
I think it's crude humour didnt really click well with some people.
Harry's Moving Castle I feel as if the Waldo character was too overwhelming so I didn't finish the episode which is shame because i really wanted to see how Brooker would portray politicians/the government.
Harry's Moving Castle I thought it was quite good. I just wish some things were handled a bit better.
Harry's Moving Castle I liked the fact that it seemed to be a nod to Danganronpa (a cartoon bear being contolled remotely by a human in a motion capture rig with a raunchy sense of humor and eventually is revealed to have effectively destroyed the world through its memetic encouragements of violence), but I didn't like how the moral of the story was ultimately "Yeah, the system has been completely corrupted and probably needs to be overthrown, but I can't think of anything better so shut up and accept the way things are." That's no excuse for not trying. And I thought the girl politician wasn't sympathetic in the slightest because she is a total hypocrite as well and frankly came off as egotistical and corrupt when the story clearly tried to make her the voice of reason.
i really enjoyed this episode and it was one of the least talked about.
This episode aged well
too well
Bruh this episode age-reversed
Why does no one talk about the fact that Gwen said she "committed a series of murders from '99 to 2003" at the start when she was going for the role? Idk that just really stood out to me
she was making a joke
@@sweatyalbama8663 I thought she was serious and was waiting for it to be brought up later 💀
The Waldo moment was interesting...i really wanted to know more about Jamie's character, was he always depressed? An implied alcoholic? It fell flat to people because he lost his job and then BOOM, cut to "homeless Jamie"...wait, what happened?! I feel like this episode, is noted for a trump-like character...but it was in fact a deeper metaphor how perceived success is the gateway to happiness. Also, a metaphor for mental health. This guy needed so badly someone to lean on for support...the twist was tragic without purpose. It would have been a much better twist, if more and more cartoons became involved in politics and it became something that other countries began doing as well...could have made it a message about how politics are all fake and that the public is failing to take leaders seriously.
You're focusing on the story of this one guy, but the episode used the guy as a storytelling device to talk about politics. The subject and theme was politics. The guy was a good foil because he is honest and like a jester he is allowed to be honest until he seeks any power (even if it was his team who pushed him there). He was depressed because the world itself did not care for that honesty. He was not the one that was sick, it was the world around him.
Big Blue Bear is watching you
Given what we know now about how history played out over the last decade, all the early complaints about how unrealistic this episode was haven't aged very well
People are so closeminded. I dont know why the concept was so unbelievable for them
Can't wait for White Christmas. That's my favorite episode :3
WrongTurnAnimations it's masterful
WrongTurnAnimations best episode
My testes exploded when I saw this in my subs, hope you have a lovely Christmas mate
Starkiller100 You too, and I wish you a swift recovery and pray the same thing doesn't happen when I upload my White Christmas analysis!
The Mario galaxy music is fire I love it👏🏿🌝🍤
Also the ending was so powerful because Waldo wanted to have a majority vote for everything, so it seems that he’s become worldwide- and since the majority speaks Mandarin- it’s primarily displayed
It's all fun and games until a scientist in body armour manages to take Waldo's government
Sorry it took me so long to make this, hope we can have a good debate about modern politics! The original upload was taken down because the framerate was absurdly low (not sure why) for anybody who was wondering!
Harry, Harry, Harry - I think you missed the point of the episode. But, because of your age, I'll forgive your naivety around this subject.
You need to notice that no matter what or who the public votes for, the resulting policy is never in our best interest. Democracy is a fraud and always has been - National Socialism has never been more in favour.
Here's a link to help - www.businessinsider.com/major-study-finds-that-the-us-is-an-oligarchy-2014-4?IR=T
does anybody truly understand politics though. I wouldn't say you're any more wrong than he is. nobody knows the true motives of politicians. not really. and if you think you do, then that's your own mistake.
Steven Nodlehs national socialism? U Must be joking! People like u are the reason WHy Waldo=Trump got elected

Where's 15 Million Merits?
I would love to see more analysis videos for Black Mirror. If you ended up with an analysis for every episode, it's make me a happy camper.
I bet this episode has aged better since I first saw it, but I always didn't like it for two reasons 1) I didn't like Waldo as a character. I get why the humor was there but it never stuck with me and there was never anything else to bounce off of it. Waldo overpowered the episode with his personality but neither Jamie nor any of the other characters were able to counter that for a balance. 2) I hated the ending. It just felt out of place in Black Mirror. The "Waldo takes over the world" type of ending while once again I get its there but thats a very cliche ending. I think subtlety hinting at Waldo's political potential or even a glimpse at his part in South America would have been better than the ending we got.
I don't think we're ever supposed to like Waldo though, it's what he represents that makes people connect with him, and I mean that within the context of the story not the viewer. I would say that ending is rather typical of Black Mirror, leaving the main character in a much worse situation than he originally started with because of his own doing, even though it would have been unavoidable anyway. Brooker always said endings like this are inspired by Twilight Zone so I guess he slipped that kind of slow decline of the story in there. Thanks for commenting though I like hearing why people didn't like it.
It was only good ending. all other episodes were shit
Yames exactly! I dont mind the "waldo is taking over the world ending" but at least show us how things have changed
I also think it was a very cliché ending, but then again, isn't the entire world talking about Donald Trump? Isn't the government of USA almost getting away with Nazi-like treatment for inmigrants?
IMO, Black Mirror was not that far off.
The bear was blue . What is blues complimentary color ?....
I don't even watch black mirror yet I watch all of these videos
TheMistyclover then you can’t really watch the BM episodes because they aren’t as good when they are spoilef
The thing is the guy was already very distressed by the pressure of playing Waldo. Then he got more and more with being involved in something he didn't even feel capable of doing. People are saying the homeless cut was too quick. Well... When you are under so much pressure and you don't get help or support, it's very quick the fall down... You have the pressure going down in seconds. It just leave him without any energy and he couldn't find the energy to help himself or find any job... Which have led him to being homeless... It's important to have a good support circle and ask for help. He said how he felt to people around him but they avoided it... He could have go for help, but in his head he did try and he just felt like no one would listen so he silenced himself and felt like he had to chose the street.
I just started seeing black mirror and I can't but wonder where I've been haha. Your analysis is nothing less than perfect! I also love your response to these comments. Big ups
thanks, I always watch your videos right after the episodes and I watch this episode a few hours ago so thanks for the quick upload
great video, also you say that waldo reminds you of borris johnson, charlie brooker said in an interview that waldo was based on him so you got it spot on lol ;)
Pacosheo No fucking way! I might actually tweet the man, don't really know what kind of reaction I'd get out of him though hahaha
When I first watched the episode I thought of Trump until I started to do kore reearch on Trump and realized that the comparison doesn't truely work and doing this research turned me into an African-American Trump supporter
This was my least favorite episode of Black Mirror but you certainly made me like it and appreciate the message a little bit more. I liked the teeth brushing on screen metaphor. I missed that.
It was the only good episode
Good, fascinating work all around, love your analysis and the smooth, calm tone of your voice, along with the ideas and thoughts you've been stimulating and putting into my head. Cheers with all future analysis and work, friend.
this is a weird theory but I also think W.A.L.D.O backward means O.D.L.A.W (odd law). I do not know if anyone picked that up. Its just to symbolize how people are not obeying the obvious boring politicians but are more interested in following people who go against the rules.
Arthur Manyenya he also is the dude you find in that book
Interesting point!
at the very end after the police beat up Jamie, the episode pans out to the future city and if you look closely you can see some references to previous episodes, just thought that was pretty cool.
People hate this episode because it's more realistic than the others. No one likes being told the truth. Denial is stronger than you'd think.
I appreciated the scene in the panel, where Jamie's person is attacked by Monroe and seconds later, when he turns this around, Monroe accuses Waldo of Ad hominem bullshit. This displays modern discussion and politics so much. No matter what one says, someone will call it "ad hominem" "straw man" etc. in an attempt to dismantle one's authenticity. And this is done with complete disregard for their own way of argument. Modern discussions are just a bunch of fancy words and rhetoric tricks with no actual meaning behind any of it
Now Boris Johnson is the prime minister. This episode was too real for its time
Loved that you played Black Mirror by Arcade Fire in the beginning. A nice touch!
I love the Super Mario Galaxy music in the background! Your editor has dope taste.
Bro I love your videos we need more!
Sadly my video production rate is relatively slow at the moment due to real life not giving me much time to make videos, follow me on twitter for more updates though man, that way you can get updates on current video projects!
lmao boris johnson is legit waldo
Boris was actually an inspiration for Waldo!
Great video and good use of BBNG in the background lol
I just clocked the opening intro song is from the arcade fire, great video Harry!
excellent analysis and channel. You've got yourself a new subscriber.
this episode is filmed in my uni/town i literally get so excited whenever i see it!
I love your analysis of this show!
Surprized to learn it's so polarizing, it was always a strong favourite of mine.
Great critique, especially your closing statement about the black mirror
I get the meaning of this episode. Really, it's quite brilliant. But the execution of it all is just horrible! Awkward dialogue, off-feeling scenes, whatever the end credit thing was. Felt a bit rushed.
Excellent analysis.
Also good choice of BADBADNOTGOOD in the background
I can't get over how much Waldo's "voice actor" looks like Jacksepticeye
I truly love balck mirror I think the creator is genius to show us such great expectations about the future and we already see some of them now I love this series it makes me think a lot after seeing any episode
The animation in this episode is fantastic. It literally mirrors the actor's facial movements
You have a great analysis of this episode and the politics involvement. Love to see your thoughts on other shows, like Westworld wich has many theories and has lead to a number of debates on who had the right idea.
Very good points, thanks! :)
One more aspect that caught my eye in this episode is when the employer tells Jamie that Waldo is the exclusive intellectual property of the company although it was Jamie who came up with the idea, created Waldo from scratch and enacted all its performances. As far as I know, some employers have this condition in real life too. I wonder how fair that is, that the intellectual creator is not also the intellectual owner by default.
i think this episode is considered the worst only cause of whats its compared to. the other episodes are a lot to compete against. also waldo is a very annoying character to sit through unless that sort of humor is your thing. i liked it just fine when i watched and from ive seen no one hates it, its just not nearly as good or as memorable as the others.
I think he’s a cute bear like when Liam was outting jamie and Waldo was frowning I thought he looked cute and I think the actor did a great job on the voice of Woldo I wish they had taken it a different way cuz I think the concept of woldo is brilliant .
lol gta violence against women? no, there is violence agianst all people. there is no discrimination in gta

Amazing video as always! Love your content! Love from Brazil! :D
…and we’re back.
With a vengeance.
And thats how you kill Liberty. With thunderous applause.
Love your black mirror analysis! Good stuff.
After reading the comments I see that this episode didn't really get that much love from the public.
Could one of the factors of why this episode was so disliked, because there was no usual plot twist that black mirror has been so good at? Because 'The Waldo Moment' seems like one of the most straight forward black mirror episodes.
From start to finish, Jamie is miserable and stays miserable and the audience's perspective of the him doesn't change.
*controversy sells* sad but true
you know the video is gonna be good when they're hitting you with that super mario galaxy music. brilliant
I learnt more from this video than the episode itself.
1:20 I like the use of the Super Mario Galaxy music
love the video and the Super Mario Galaxy music in the background
A fine analysis, as always.
The only Black Mirror episode I haven’t watched yet so I’m going to watch it before this video
In my opinion, the biggest issue with this episode is that it was just... forgettable. Nothing was developed. The acting was great, but the writing was shit. None of the characters were likable, or developed. None of the relationships were established, and the ending was supposed to be "hard-hitting" but it wasn't because nothing was ever shown about the main character. Bad episode by Black Mirror standards and probably a 5/10. As far as regular TV standards it's probably a 7/10.
You just didn’t understand it
Dennis your a 5 star man.
@@MrBernardo06 Look at you. “Someone doesn’t like the same thing I do, so let me act like I know better then them and say they didn’t understand it”.
I think that this is a really good episode!! Just the idea that the actor didn't matter to the public after all, and that a CARTOON BEAR made them beat up a person...... 👌perfection
Ironically, Borris Johnsons Prime Minister now!

You got me into @blackmiror thank you man
Fantastic episode that doesn't deserve the sheer snark it gets. Black Mirror has always been first and foremost social commentary about the dark roads the human race can go down rather than warnings about technology. The danger of society entering a post-truth, post-ideological dark age out of sheer political apathy and nihilism is a much more worrying and real threat than being hunted to extinction by rogue killer robots. The Waldo Moment shoots down the idea that "all politicians are the same"; politicians take stances, they may be fake or disingenuous but they stand for something at least. The really dangerous thing about this apathy is how people with actual stances - and dangerous stances at that - can seize on it and manipulate it for their ends; in the end Waldo just becomes a figurehead for a totalitarian regime with unclear goals, who use his brand value to drive common people to fierce loyalty for whatever he says.
This episode finally happened in real life a few days ago, that is CRAZY lol
Waldo was one of my favorite episodes because of the ending. It scared the shit out of me.
at least this episode was more bearable to watch than the other ones I’ve watched so far
I thought I'd mention that I love your music taste. You seem to play a lot of BBNG. I appreciate that.
LOVE your Black Mirror Analyses! But quick question: at the ending, the version you have in this video shows the area in the background with just some tall buildings, a highway, and a dark dystopian sky. In the version that is currently on Netflix, however, the background is filled with Times Square-esque billboards shining brightly with media and Waldo's face. Did they change it from when you made this video?
4:17 oh god no
One thing I love about Black Mirror is that it subverts expectation every episode because of the credits - many people just click off or change channel but Black Mirror changes this as the events become more interesting at the point where people switch off... It's genius
The end of the episode left a lump in my throat.
I love the music!

The thing about that 'GTA scandal':
Everybody gets hurt. That the whole deal about that game. However, some hypocrites only complain about the woman who get hurt.
The public knows that they are just 'left' hypocretes and don't care

Did you know Boris Johnson inspired Charlie Brooker to write this episode?
Steven Pilling
It says so at the end of the episode so I imagine yes

'I just seen'
Ahhh yes, Donald trump, the adorable blue swearing bear! I TOTALLY see the connection! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Lyzz Lyzzy The similarity is more in the dangerous performative populism of both Waldo and Trump and also in the way media coverage legitimized a figure who is otherwise obviously unfit to hold such power. I’m sure you knew that though and you were just being reductive in an attempt to undermine op’s point.
ggr how has the media legitimized Trump? Are you not paying attention.
Very good review, better than some of your past ones
Such a great analysis and I definitely believe that the waldo moment makes an important and blunt message about western political systems
The Waldo moment is one of favorite black mirror episodes
HOLY SHIT.. Mind BLOWN!!! Black Mirror episode predicted it perfectly. Trump is WALDO!!!!
except Waldo and Hillary are nothing alike...... Waldo is exactly like Trump.
And Trump isn't?
+Christian Picoli yea Waldo isn't corrupt but Hillary and Trump are. That isn't what makes him different from Hillary, fool
how is trump corrupt?
The Typical Liberal you're joking, right?
The look at how making a character matters more than actual policies causing trump to win in 2016 is interesting, since there he was up against Hilary, a cold politican who shows no emotion. Now he lost against Biden, someone who had always had a positive character, and who actively built himself up on that, even advertising himself in Animal Crossing, a pretty positive, wholesome game.
