I was looking for an idea to decorate a terra cotta flower pot. I’m going to try this! It is the perfect look I want. Thank you 😊
This looks so fun and easy I can't wait to try it.
Love this
Nice stripes 👍
Dude you are a painting machine full of creativity. I really enjoy your paintings, keep them coming :)
Thanks! I actually took a short break from the studio and just got back into it yesterday. A new video is up now. Thanks for keeping up with the channel!
I can't wait to try
I hope you do! I'd love to see it when it's done.
Thanks for watching! This is the 3rd in a series of masking tape diagonal line paintings I've worked on recently. Check out my other videos to see the rest.

Wonderful. What is the Canvas you used here. Waiting to try it out. Can I get that base anywhere
Amazing ❤❤😘😘
Thank you!
Hi, I love your work! I saw that you use Liquitex Glazing Medium, When do you add it and in what ratio? Thank you
I typically use it to add some transparency to to a color or think out the coverage a bit. I use anywhere from 10% up to 50% glaze mixed with paint.
@mike: I love it and will surely try! I am just a bit confused as you did not mention where and when did you use Gesso/glazing medium. I am sorry- just very new to this and want it to turn out good. Did you apply gesso layer before taping?
Did you use white glaze in the end?
@Mike McDonald (cannot tag you) :(
I apply white gesso to all of my canvases before painting. During the painting there is no gesso or glaze used. For this painting, I did apply a layer of white acrylic paint before I started recording the masking tape process. So this is 1 layer of gesso, 1 layer of white paint, masking tape, black paint, and then white paint again for the touch-ups and splatter. I did not varnish or otherwise treat the painting afterwards, but you could apply whatever varnish or finishing option you prefer.
One thing I wish I had done, and now do with all of these masking tape paintings, is cover the masking tape with the background color. This seals the tape edges and I if I had done it in this one, I would have had much sharper tape lines, and needed less touch-up afterwards. So the proper procedure should have been gesso, white paint, masking tape, white paint again, black paint, remove tape, add splatter.
What kind/Brand of tape do you use to make such clean lines?
Wow I like it so much, what kind of tape are you using?
I get the best results from just regular masking tape. I've tried the fancy painters tapes, but honestly I don't think they work as well.
Question No. 1: 2:39 : Very nice, but do you think we can use a toothbrush to spray the paint? I do have an old toothbrush... and many artists have used it to spray the paint on the surface
Question No. 2: How many strips of tape did you use exactly?
You could definitely use a toothbrush. The paint splatter varies a bit depending on how soft or stiff the bristles are, whether you use a paint brush, toohbrush, or any other type of bristled brush. But they all work, just test it out first before applying the technique to a painting.

Thanks for your jolly reply! But how many strips of tape did you use, because I need to know that to know how to make this masterpiece! 😊😊😊 Edit: Also you got a new subscriber! 😄😄😄😊
I don't know what to add to my color to make it shiny, I don't like the color coming out matte. Can you suggest what can be done? Thank you
Different paint brands have different levels of shine. For example Arteza acrylics will look shinier than Liquitex acrylics. Adding glaze medium will add some shine to color, although it also thins out the color (makes it semi-transparent) so you don't want to use too much if you're just adding it for shine.
You can also just paint normally and get a matte finish, and add a gloss varnish over the entire piece after it has dried. Liquitex makes a nice gloss varnish.
Wait can I use a rectangular canvas?? Plz reply quick I really wanna try it out!
You could use any size/shape canvas, it just might require that you plan out the tape spacing a bit differently. Like where you start with the tape or the width of the tape might need to change so that the stripes end where you want them to.
OMG I tried this, and this was a success! I will request my family and friends to subscribe your channel! I wish I could send you my painting! Thank you SO much! Edit: You got yourself a new subscriber! 😏😏😏 When are u making your next video?
Glad it worked! There are lots of ways to do this kind of painting and change the arrangement of the stripes, the thickness of the tape used, etc. You can also have more or fewer lines if you change the spacing of the tape pieces.
Can we use oil paints instead of acrylic?
I am the biggest fan of you
What is the size of masking tape and canvas
The tape is 1-inch masking tape and the canvas is 12" x 12".
Take the tape of when the paint is still wet?
I do it when it is dry, but I think you could do it when it's wet, too.
Mike McDonald - Ember Art Thankyou! Can’t wait to try it myself❤️
Can we do this on white foam board?
You could, but be sure to use a tape that won't be too rough on the foam board. Tape with strong adhesives might rip the top layer of the foam board when peeled off. Maybe try standard masking tape or tape made for delicate surfaces.
Ember Art - Abstract Painting thank you 😊
I tried but failed coz masking tape come along with paper wasting all effort 😔😔😔 what to do plz help
He totally fucked it up once he started splattering it
Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes these get splatter, sometimes they don't. These paintings are not super time-consuming or expensive to make, so it's easy enough to do another one if the end result doesn't work out.
This is so hard I hate it😡
It might take a few tries to get it right. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work out the first time. A little practice with arranging the tape, getting the spacing to fit, etc., and you can do it, too! Just keep going, it will work out in the end. 😃 👍
