When Miele introduced the Triflex cordless vacuum cleaner a couple of years ago, they clearly did their research. And in typical Miele fashion, they take every aspect of the vacuum cleaner one step further than the competition.
With the Triflex, Miele's German engineering is on full display. Sporting a versatile 3-in-1 design, the Triflex proves to be a powerful cordless vacuum that fits seamlessly inside the Miele ecosystem - for example, the attachments for your Miele C1 canister can be used on your Triflex!
So enjoy, as Brent Rutherford of Swanson's Discount Vacuum gives you a detailed, hands-on demonstration of the Miele Triflex.

I have two of these (purchased both used). I like a lot about the Triflex: the relative lightness of them machine, the flexibility to use it in three configurations, including as a short hand tool or as a reach tool, the fact that it can stand upright, the nimbleness around the house, the ability to use on stairs more easily, the fact you can use other Miele attachments (I have several other Miele vacs and quite a few attachments), the motor-driven brush head - with headlight, the ease of servicing the brush roll, the strength and usefulness of the smaller motor-driven brush roll, the twist-to-open canister, the fact that the canister filter disassembles, the power of the brush heads, the fact that the larger brush roll adapts to surfaces, the ability to run it at three speeds - and the general build and material quality. I reach for these a lot. They work nicely.
That being said: I do NOT like bagless machines. Miele has a really solid collection and filtration across their models with their incredible bags and series of filters. I have no issues with buying, filling up and then discarding and then replacing the bags on any of my other Miele models (corded canister, corded large upright, corded stick). They pop out and self seal/close to minimize any dust escaping. I also don't mind paying for and replacing the filters (in some cases multiple filters in one machine). Emptying the Triflex is messy, no matter how careful you are. The dust cup is pretty small. It has the trap door, which opens easily with a twist. And usually much of the dirt collection drops right out (though usually with an accompanying cloud). Miele then says that you gently tap the pleated filter to knock off dust. There is often quite a bit of dust on the pleated filter. I always have a Miele vacuum nearby to pick up dust spill, tidy up the machine and surrounding area if needed and (most importantly) clean the filters inside the cup.
I understand that HX2 has a function to twist the paper filter and knock off the fine dust before you dump out the canister. That sounds like an improvement. It also offers a 'digital' motor that claims to have 60% more power. Makes me wonder if one could swap out the new motor (yes, you would need to disassemble - and Miele would not want the customer to do this) and the new dust cup system on an HX1 to make an HX2.
Despite my criticism, I really think these are great machines. They are particularly good for quick pick ups between more intense cleaning with your corded vacs. They do quite a nice job, and are light and maneuverable. I love vacuums, and I love Miele vacuums in particular - and I do not mind doing regular maintenance. So I am overall quite happy. I just think Miele could have done this vacuum a bit better. And maybe they continue evolve the concept into an even better version of this. I think battery technology is here to stay, now that batteries and the motors run from them are generally getting so much better these days.

Answered the one big question I was looking for that Miele does not mention on its site or anywhere else... can I use existing Miele attachments on the Triflex... You are a champion.

Great review so many give waaaaay too much info and I usually move on after a short time. I have a canister Miele which I hate pulling out everytime a few cat fur tumbleweeds roll by. I've been looking for a stick vacuum for a while and always go back to the Miele. I did not know that all three versions are the same basic vacuum or that I can use the equipment from the canister on the cordless. My local vacuum store now has a Valentine sale and tomorrow I'm going to get myself a basic TriFlex thanks to you. I will take some cat fur and litter to see how it picks up that stuff. No rugs in my house. Thanks again.

Great review. I am sold. Wasn't happy with my very early upright Dyson plug-in. Moved on to a canister Nilfisk which is very good and used in conjunction with an Electrolux stick vacuum which is quite efficient and easy to use, however, I cannot get a replacement battery for the Electrolux. I have road tested Dyson stick vacuum. It is too heavy and my hand aches from holding the trigger on. Very overrated. Miele seem to do everything so well. I do think they could have a front light on all versions of their stick vacuums though. Even my inexpensive Electrolux has a front light.
Thanks for such a wonderful presentation. Calm and knowledgeable, and at any easy comfortable pace.

As others have said.. we bought one of these based off of our wonder full blown Meile vacuum... they missed the mark with this machine in so many ways. the only thing we liked about this is it stood on its own. This thing has very little power and emptying this thing is like playing with a hand grenade; you are hoping you can get the canister off without opening the container and then you better hope that you didn't over rotate the top, because you will be sitting for 20 minutes trying to get it back on. Ours is not even 1.5 years old and we are buying something to replace it. DO NOT BUY.

Thank you for this feedback! I’m always weary of bagless systems, but was contemplating trying this because it’s a Miele. I love my Miele bag in canister vacuum that is close to 30 years old and still running but starting to finally show some wear so looking for a replacement. Guess I’ll stick with another old style bag canister Miele, they’re wonderful machines.

I bought the cat and dog one. I’m returning it. My battery will only stay charged for maybe maybe 15 min, and the suction is so so with dust. I’m sad bc we purchased a house with all Miele appliances and so I was trying to stay with Miele.

  • @redgum1340

We've had 2 of these vacs and BOTH HAVE FAILED. The square drive that rotates the brush roller always strips and this is very bad design fault. If using plastic (as Miele do) it should be much larger to withstand the friction of the brush on carpets. Or, if they still want to use such a small drive dog to spin the brush, it must be made of metal, perhaps aluminum.

Sorry Miele, there are still more inventions other competitors did, v shape brush that prevent hair from wrapping around brush is the least you can find now in all way less expensive vacuums , not to mention 30 min run time on low speed , come on Miele
