More food for thought here:
- Try passing that resonant tone to the cutoff input on another resonant filter. (or to any pitch/fm input on an oscillator)
Bam. You're now using your filters as FM Operators.
Another tip i see all the time in daws and never in modular: put any sound in a filter that encompasses a lot of harmonic content (talking, drum loops, your entire mix); take each output into its own vca; gate each vca with its own sequence. Beat step pro, marbles, doesn't matter. If you have each step gated but with different bandwidths it will be basically trance music.
Additionally, envelope some bandwidths if you have them to spare, and modulate the cutoff with a stepped random related to the master bpm. Jam for days
when he said 'and bring in' at 2:28 it was the exact octave as the bass... trippy
I cracked up at the airhorn I love jokes about electronic music cliches.
Happy Holidays White Noises thanks for all you have done this year
Thanks so much! I remember liking this video a while back, but I'm now rewatching it and I realize just how valuable it's been. Much love!
People tend to avoid going beyond convention, when making music....these
Examples are a good way for some quick out of the box, inspirational experiments-great video!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed
Really wonderful tips, and a beautiful video. Great work dude!
A very nice detailed video on self (oscillating) resonating filters.
BAM. I'm subscribing instantly. Absolutely love this!
Beautiful sounds!
Your videos are really helpful and informative; thank you! :)
Hey man loving your channel and about to buy my first little case and some modules/a semi modular synth and gonna film the process and put it on my youtube. Was wondering if you used any semi-modular stuff when you started and if you could do a complete rundown of all the modules in your rack; that'd be really cool to see. :)
Thanks man! I appreciate that. Glad to hear you want to upload synth videos too! I haven’t played about too much with semi-modular but I know a lot of people who started out with the Mother32, and I actually built the synth case prototype you see in this video to accommodate it and another row of modules. Soon I’ll be doing a video reviewing my first year with modular and going through all the modules in my rack, so look out for that! Cheers :)
ah great and thanks for the reply looking forward to that video. Think I'm gonna go dreadbox Hades just to get going as it'd take me a while to save for the mother 32 but thanks for the advice I'll maybe give it another look :)
Looks like I need to get more filters in my case :D
Added to the list :)
+1 for Airhorn!
that drony stuff was clever. thanks!
merry xmas :P

I guess I just hear what I want to hear ; )
You said, "almost sine wave" oscillators for the Qu-bit. Will the LP output a pure sine?
the outputs are most likely the same, but with a phase offset between each other
What about the filters that can’t be pushed into self-resonance?
Drums sound like beep Boop meshuggah
how do you get the filter to make feedback if there's nothing going through it?
Finneas Maximus Altschuler the filter will feedback on itself regardless of whether a signal is going into the filter or not. I don’t quite understand it but that’s just the way filters work. Hope this helps :)
Not all of them... Many filters doesn't oscillate. The wasp vcf for example
2:27 Haha xD I'm so easily entertained...
Nice case and size of it, homemade?
Thank you! It's a prototype for a travel case that I built and will begin selling this year. Will be making a video about it once it's ready :)
Nice! 60hp?
64! I designed it so that it could fit a Mother32 and power module on one row, and leave the other row open for a bunch of modules to compliment it
Ah cool, good thinking. So it wont have power? Still intressted of a smaller sized case, ill be looking out for it!
Yeah I decided to keep the power outside of the case to keep the weight down as it’s designed to be as travel-friendly as possible (looking into powering it with a battery). Thanks for your interest! :)
Hey, I'm getting more and more interested in building a rack! I have some guitar footpedals lying around and i was wondering if i could mix the signal from a guitarpedal and a module? Is that a good idea or will it fry something?
Modular synths have a much hotter signal than guitars, so I wouldn't plug directly between the two -- however, there are several modules that are designed for interfacing between modular synths and footpedals, like the S.B.G by ALM Busy Circuits busycircuits.com/alm006/
that's a cool piece, should definutely check that out! thnx
Hi billy mays here with the new OxyContin
basically put clouds on it ;-)
Err, because Clouds is so ubiquitous!?

Those "zappy hi-hats" zapps my head so high that it starts to hurt after a minute :D
P.S. how long will you listen to my MS20 VCF's clone? soundcloud.com/kirill-threedee/idm-ms-20-vcf-clone-synth-test
i'm quitting after a minute... it seems to be "cool" only when you're making it because you feel yourself "in the center".
This is awesome, but don't forget Formants! instagram.com/p/BcTPSVugnv-/?taken-by=joshuacolonsigman
I'm fine with your "beard"
