    One of the reasons Finnish school system is so successful is the equal treatment to all students. We don't have many private schools (only couple special Christian and maths schools etc.) so basicially you can't buy better education. Were you rich or poor you go to the same public school were everybody is treated equally. If you need special help cos of reading problems etc. you'll get it. So our country's goal is educate every single student very well with state funding :)

      I'm not complaining ,just noticed they are talking about their next step in education but in english it says that will be high school when i think they mean college ? these must be high school aged kids .. not Jr high.

    Finnish school system as a whole is a bit different to the American one. but the reason they look like they were in high school already is because the actors are older than their characters

    Janne's intentions were clear to you, but I was still too distracted by Janne and Tale's almost kissing in Part 126 a few minutes earlier to think beyond admiration of Tale's forehead to playing a prank. I was even a bit taken aback that he would express this admiration of Tale's forehead to his girlfriend.

    They are age 15 and 16. That does make them the equivalent of a Junior in a USA school. In the UK, students also finish compulsory school at age 16. They both also tend to have longer school years.
    In a couple of surveys I looked at the USA was in the ranking of 20 to 30 (33 in one survey), Finland is always certainly in the top 5 and frequently #1. In some education surveys, Finland is in the top 3 or 4 but tied with other European countries.
    In the USA, our 9th grade would be 14yrs old.

    I think this might explain it (Wikipedia) -
    "The present Finnish education system consists of...a nine-year compulsory basic comprehensive school (starting at age seven and ending at the age of fifteen); post-compulsory secondary general academic and vocational education; etc..."
    So, they are age 15 and making the transition from compulsory education to non-compulsory education.
    It is worth noting that Finland has one of the best education systems in the world. Typically ranking in the Top 3.

    I was curious about that too.
    Though I wonder if "High School" doesn't mean HighER School, or advanced schooling.
    In the UK, this might be Upper and Lower 6th Form, in a sense University preparation courses.
    In the USA, it might mean Junior College (now more commonly called a 2 year college) or vocational school.
    In the USA, the transition between Middle School and High School involves people of about 14 years of age. Which is why it raises the question.

    Well, it's not just Janne being a douche-bag. It's also Tale being a bit dim. For example, who bets his moped car, when the other person bets nothing? If Tale were brighter, he would fall victim to Janne's douche-baggery less often. If he were brighter, Janne might never have seen him as a target. Of course, it's not fair of Janne to always pick on Tale, just because he can, but unfortunately that's the way these things usually work.

  • @alwaysuseless

    I think it's better that the counselor knows Tale didn't write ASS on his own forehead. (I don't have ADHD and am concerned about the consequences.)

    Enjoyable as alwaysl Thaniks, thanks, thanks.

  • @TVFILMBUFF
    @TVFILMBUFF Před 11 lety

    Yeah, I kinda agree that his dimness makes him an easy target.
    But what usually is the case with guys like Janne is that he is so insecure about himself... he needs to find a soft target like Tale to cement his social standing amongst the other members of the group.
    There is a fine line between friendly pranks and bullying and I think that the writers are trying to portray Janne right in the middle. Sometimes the 'victim' will see the funny side... sometimes its just malicious.

    Wikipedia - Education in Finland -
    en.wikipedia(.)rg/wiki/Education_in_Finland
    "After their nine-year basic education in a comprehensive school, students at the age of 16 may choose to continue their secondary education in either an academic track (lukio) or a vocational track (ammattikoulu), both of which usually take three years. "

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 11 lety

    I wonder if we'll be seeing less of Janne. Most of the scenes are outside of school, and Tale doesn't usually hold a grudge for long. So Janne's move to Vocational and Tale's possible insight into Janne's character may not have much effect on the show. He's also still Ida's boyfriend.
    I wish for his sake Tale were smarter. The actor Emil Hallberg is brilliant.

  • @annrichards5014

    Actually, no, this doesn't affect his future in any way. The only harm that comes from the pylly-word on his forehead is that the teacher will be shocked.
    In Finland our teachers' opinions about further education don't matter, it's more like a formality to sit down and discuss about teens' futures. In some special cases you may get a recommendation from your teacher. When we apply for further education, we will get in either by our own scores from secondary school or through an entrance exam:).

  • @blueboyblue
    @blueboyblue Před 11 lety

    Thank you for that. Obviously Finland has a very different and clearly superior school system than the USA.
    There is a lot of corruption and even graft in our school system. I've seen or heard of students being blackmailed (in a mild sense) by teachers and councilors in their school. I think Finland has a much more fair was well as a more innovative system. In Finland, teacher are encourage rather than stifled.

    I think this is very cruel of Janne. Tale is going for an interview that could effect the quality of the school he can get into. Janne is screwing with Tale's future, these actions can have life long consequences. Sometime Janne can be a real ass. I personally hope Tale finds a way to get back at him. I think Janne could use some MAJOR ego deflation and a heaping dose of humility (or humiliation ... either way).

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 11 lety

    The way you heard the line?
    Your version is about right. The subtitle is "Have you ever noticed how round and smooth forehead he has?"
    You couldn't *hear* the line differently, unless there's a mistake in the subtitle and you understand Finnish. Of course, that's possible, but you did say elsewhere that you're from Texas.

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 11 lety

    I meant it's better for Tale's future that the counselor knows he didn't put Ass on his own forehead and he doesn't know it's there. However, despite the fact that no one would write Ass on their own forehead, the counselor acts as though Tale did it deliberately. Because of its lack of credibility, the joke falls flat imo.
    Also, who goes the entire school day without seeing themselves in the mirror?
    I agree credible surprises engage the viewer.

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 11 lety

    The complete surprise depends on our not consciously noticing the obscuring of the forehead.
    For those who don't know Finnish "PYLLY" wasn't so funny.
    Btw, Google translate doesn't offer "pylly" as a translation of "ass," but it offers "ass" as a translation of "pylly." That's probably because "pylly" means ass only in the sense of a bum, "bum" being Google's first choice for "pylly."

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 11 lety

    This is good! We could call this fictional fiction w/o being redundant.
    Less dynamite but more appealing to me in some ways is a Janne-Tale pairing. Lari bullied Elias while desiring him, & now we would get to see how Janne bullied Tale while desiring him.
    However, we're probably at our quota of gays for the story of Lari, Elias, & family & friends. Besides, it's not "fair" to give Ida anorexia & first one gay boyfriend & then another.
    Ironically, Janne proved himself by visiting her in drag.
