  • Amanda Bloom came visiting while the instrument was not yet totally finished, but close to... for my piano building peers who will notice it... ;-) Anyway, this shows some more of the sound characteristics of the M450i, though still just some of it. Hope you enjoy!

Great piano! Finally, I hear not dry, but deep, velvety, nuanced sound. Klavins Piano is without a doubt the best piano I have ever heard.

A surprisingly delicate tone from such a large instrument

Very nice sound possibilities. Impressive intrument, and performance, of course.

In contrary to many other record holding piano's it sounds quite good based on this recording, maybe even better in real life. How does it play compared to a real concert grand as the advantage of a grand piano is that gravity helps you instead of you having to force it to your hand.
I Personally still prefer my Bösendorfer above any of these instruments purely for the sound it has but at least this one sounded good.

I'm curious: why not have the hammers and keyboard at the bottom of the piano? I'm sure there's a reason for it, but I don't know what it might be.

Klavins said something in another video about that making the hammers that hit the strings less responsive and putting their strings under greater stress

I must have missed that video! Thank you for sharing, that’s very good to know. It’s just that I’m mindful of some individuals who might be less agile and shouldn’t be climbing ladders.

That's why you built a grand staircase up to your piano. A Klavins M450i is so large as to be architecture anyway, so why not go all out?

For piano tuners with a fear of heights this might pose a problem. Sounds great though.
