I tried to get Toni to do "Right Down the Line" with me, but she said it was (and I quote) "too cheesy." Funny, coming from a Wisconsinite. But one person's cheese is another person's fine wine. :D I've loved this Gerry Rafferty tune since I was a kid, so even if it meant I had to learn that pedal steel solo myself, damnit, I was going to do it. I hope you enjoy!

Nice work on the guitar solo :)
one of the down falls of being single minded and a bit of loner, am i right ?
That Solo was right on spot. Cool song btw.
Great solo!
I can just imagine Toni saying that, LOL. I liked it. Thank you. Now to listen to it again with better speakers.
I think Gerry Rafferty is seriously underappreciated. Thank you for doing this.
Totally agree, very underrated.
Fantastic cover. Great work
Yep. He's great.
Agreed!
As what? Dis he have another career we don't know about?
Not cheesy at all. I like this song, I love this rendition. Great job.
As a fellow Scot, I was brought up with Gerry Rafferty……young lady you have done him proud, a wonderful touching tribute to the greatest singer songwriter of all time!
Ya know, I'm an old buzzard, always liked this song. This young lady covers it with such a relaxed approach and it comes across so perfectly. My compliments!!!
I’m an old man and appreciate singers who don’t need autotune to sound beautiful. Thanks for posting this video of real music.
After going down the rabbit hole of watching a ton of your videos I think I figured out why I love them. It's not the awesome song choices, not the awesome guitar skills, not the self-effacing style, not your cool back grounds or coffee cups. It is your enunciation. You sing songs that everyone recognizes but have maybe never really heard. I pick up phrases and word combos listening to your music that I don't think I ever noticed in the originals. Keep on doing what you do!!!!!
Everyone is familiar with "Baker Street", but few of Rafferty's superficial fans realize how amazing this album (City to City) really is. It is a masterpiece - first song to the last one! And you've done this song justice! And very clever with the electric guitar solo! Once again, a great big THANK YOU!! Keep it up!
Bravo! Next request: Baker Street with Toni playing sax!
Good one!
Oh yeah, that would be exhilarating.
@@clubmike2910 Fricken awesome! I'd love to see Toni on the sax. She can play anything, amirite?
The foo fighters did a great cover of Baker Street with no sax.
That would work.
(now, let's see if they do it!)
As a sound engineer I love this sound of raw talent, not the polished rubbish non talent pushed by big record companies. Reina playes what she likes and the results are all the better for it. Real talent never goes out of fashion. So I guess we will see a lot more of Reina.
Brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful. Low key, understated but passionate and sincere.
Her voice is exquisite. Especially when the sound comes from the front of her mouth, like when she sings the Chuck Berry song. The articulation. The tone.
And she hits the notes seemingly without effort.
At 52 you two have awakened my love of music. I work all day and come home to cook/clean/sleep. I wish I had someone to play with. Thank you as you have reignited my fire.
You truly understand not just the song but also Gerry Rafferty's style--that blend of acoustic and electric sounds that he used to forward his poetic conflict resolution. Singing it without a band has the advantage of highlighting his words, which seem simplistic but not if you know Rafferty's personality, eg, he hated live performing and was, it's said, hard to deal with. Hearing a girl (sic) doing a version of this song is something special, changing as it does its too-dark atmosphere or mood. Your original solo also helps reinterpret and bring back into light a song that in 1978 was somewhat eclipsed by Baker Street.
Gerry Rafferty was such a great songwriter. His songs were immaculately produced as well. Lovely cover.
22 people didn't like this? Really? What is not to like? Seeing the young musicians doing the old classics? Great job! Love it.
The actual guitar prob hurt their ears
Almost everything about this is perfect for my ears with the exception of the chorus. I stopped listening during the second chorus when she cut out the Dm half way through. Same as she did during the first chorus.
Her voice and singing are beautiful and she is great on the guitar. Im sure she realizes that she messed up on the chorus
"City to city" was a damn masterpiece! R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty! 😃👍
we don't have a TV in the main part of the house since we moved in Sept, and it's been great! But now I'm thinking of getting a giant one and play this channel all day!
My favourite Gerry Rafferty tune. Here, beautifully performed. I always thought that whoever inspired this song must be moved to her core every time she hears it. And how fortunate Mr Rafferty was to have had someone in his life to whom he could write such a song!
He unwittingly wrote it for Reina to perform when she was ready for it. and performed it was... to perfection!!
Hopefully it wasn't one of the things that brought GR down in the end. I have at least a half dozen Rafferty Lp's and enjoy them all. This young lady is fantastic in making people aware of the music of past generations.
My daughter and I have watched you almost every Sunday of her life! Thank you for bringing us joy! Be Well!
Wow. The original always just made me feel. Wanted someone to feel this way about me. I know. George wrote this for his wife but when I listened to your beautiful cover I got that feeling, but in a difficult way. All I was feeling was how thankful I am for my daughter. Beautiful. Thank you for giving this song more of a positive feeling. You are extremely talented. Co
This is just wonderful. Every time I see it offered on CZcams, I listen again.
As soon as heard the Strat, I thought I guess Toni decided it wasn’t too cheesy. Then I saw you playing the little lead with the bends and stuff. Brava!
What a terrific version, love the guitar solo also. RIP Gerry.
i was originally disappointed Toni wasn't gonna be there but wait. Bravo young lady, great job.
Natural a talented. You are. Much respect from Los Angeles California. That song was my young generation 1977. I was 21. Thanks i play guitar. I love you
If that’s cheese, I’m a big fan of cheese. Nice pickin!
Hey Reina.🖐 I've loved this song since it was released (I was a small boy then). From North Carolina, but in 1978, we moved to Hawaii and lived there for 4 and a half months. I learned of Gerry Rafferty on the island of Oahu in a small town called Nanakuli. I remember hearing (and loving) the newly released Baker Street on the radio on KIKI (radio station). One day we were riding in the car and I called out the artist and my Mom said, "Are you sure? How do you know that?" After the song was over, the DJ came on and confirmed to my Mom's disbelief that an 8 year old me would know that. LOL. Later, Right Down The Line was released and I loved it too. Gerry Rafferty was in my musical catalog before that and well after. Great music! This song choice of yours takes me back to that time and place. I've always said music is like a time machine. I started playing your video a few minutes ago and part way through the first verse, I stopped it and went to let my wife enjoy the whole video with me. For the record, we both loved your version! I dedicated it to her and a few days from now, we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. I just wanted to let you know what a beautiful talent you have and how much we all appreciate what you (and Toni) bring to our lives every Sunday. Fine wine, no cheese, btw.😉 Your song brought tears to this old man's eyes today, so I hope you're happy. Absolutely incredible performance and yes girl, you nailed that solo!👌 Thank you again Reina and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
I just want to say that I found Toni and her have become my favorite in last two years
im stunned ?? the soulfullness and yes the heartache of loving some one so much is stunning rafferty would be proud
I've been singing and playing guitar for more than 50 years. I just loved this video. The singing feels intimate and the simplicity of the guitar arrangement and tone is perfect to accompany the vocal. The electric solo was a tasty tech trick that added to the sweet playing on rhythm guitar.
Beautiful voice. So real and this song is one of my favorites of all time. I'm 60 years old. Thanks for sharing your talent and bringing back sweet memories.
Excellent! Thank you. A simple song that has haunted me since 1978.
Beautiful thanks for sharing. I’m 60 and I grew up as a teenager listening to GR.
Great song and an equally great rendition. As a fan i miss Gerry Rafferty, unfortunately gone too soon. There is so much music on that album thanks for breathing life back into this tune.
Haven't heard this track for.....30 years !..brilliant....you have a sweet voice.
This song I listened to as a child. It's a song that will never die ... I like it. From Thailand
As a Scot I'm probably ever so slightly biased, but that's one of my favourite Gerry songs, really enjoyed that, thank you.
I have always liked this song since it came out. I think Gerry Rafferty would be proud. Great rendition.
Sunday morning: wouldn't miss the Reina and Toni show, even though I needed to read my brother's recounting of how he broke his toe. I noticed it was just Reina... Okay, fine. Started reading into my brothers email, then I hear Toni. Okay, stop reading the letter, switch back to "Right Down the Line". I'll be damned: this is not Toni, this is Reina all by her lonely self. I am so impressed! And I can feel your pride for having done that. Cheesy? Maybe a little, but one doesn't have to over-interpret every line of the lyrics. And I didn't ... and I enjoyed.
Same! Well, except for the toe thing…
Toni is on thin ice with the you tube community
Not too cheesy, just brilliant. I was brought up on Steelers Wheel / Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty and they were and are not cheesy. Meanwhile this is a great rendition. Thank you
I have listened to this song reminds me of when I was a teenager 16-17 and I loved listening to it
Very nice! My introduction to Reina del Cid was that recording of "Stuck in the Middle With You", with Toni, Josh Turner and Carmen McKee. Feels like we're completing a circle here.
:) no no, there's many more Rafferty songs to go I hope.
Why would Toni avoid this tune if she did "Stuck in the Middle" ? Seems odd, maybe some other time. GR has many many great tunes. Tortured genius,I have no idea.
I love this young woman's presence. Nice job on the music.
A true talent is Reina. Wonderful guitars, smooth voice, not forced. Gerry Rafferty I am sure would approve.
This should have a million upvotes. Thanks.
Reina- had not heard this song for about 20 years...you covered it perfectly, brought back so many childhood memories!
Your version is incredible- 🙏 thank you❤️
“Too cheesy”?!! Toni has just dropped several points in my estimation. Gerry Rafferty and I were born in the same town (Paisley), so thanks for choosing a cover of his that isn’t Baker Street or Stuck in the middle with you. It’s good to see a rare video of Reina doing some solo guitar.
I agree. Toni is great, but she really missed the boat on this one.
@@ollieroger3032 - Yup - especially when it’s a “too cheesy” comment from someone who was happy last Halloween to play the Monster Mash dressed as Frankenstein’s Monster, green face-paint and all. 😂
@@sigmundjester Well said, my friend. Thinking the same.
Rafferty's vocal on this track is beyond perfect.
@@DireWolfLive - Totally! His City to City album is a classic - poetry and music perfectly combined. Whatever’s Written in Your Heart is one of my favourites:
“I heard us speak but all the words were dead
Talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.”
I don't know how I got here....but glad I found it. Beautiful young woman w/ a beautiful cover! Nice job!
Well done "Old Soul' The Generation that this comes from is more about singing from the heart, not from the anger that is prevelant within the youth of today. Thats why we call it "Rythm and Blues"
I just came home from the worst gig I’ve ever had so disappointed and depressed; thanks for calming me down. Your videos are always uplifting
One Sunday, I'd like to hear "Needle and the damage done" Neil Young
Great song.
I 'm a frenchy, and with your beautiful work, i can discover more musicians of these beautiful music years....however i listen it from my 45 , young génération you're comin' up..
It's beautiful....
Your version of this got STUCK in my head. It's been months and this still pops into my head. But it is your version that I hear and picture...not the original.
FINALLY.
your excellent voice wasn't drowned out by the instruments.
What ever mic arrangement you used. Do it again.
agreed - use that mike setuo again. and again....
Agree. Would like to hear Reina's voice more forward in the mix.
I think this might be the best performance Reina has done. After reading TIM's remark I realized that part of my appreciation may be the sound mix with Reina's voice more prominent.
@@rohricwl Yes, one only has to listen to Kitty Kallen’s “Little Things Mean A Lot”, now about 70 years old, and compare it with other recordings of hers and others, to realize that vocal microphone placement can make or break tunes. Its a recording that Reina & Toni should study well...
‘Little Things’ is an excellent example of prosody when the sound of the recording matches its literal meaning. The very intimate yet very public recording style (after all it is public - played on the radio) matches a lyric talking of blowing a kiss across a public room, touching an arm while crossing a public room, giving a secret smile in a public room : ‘sound matches sense’ as poetry teachers say...
This has been a favorite of mine for at least 40 years, Thanks for a very nice cover! What a treat
Just discovered this Young Lady & i must say that i am THOROUGHLY Impressed with all aspects of Her music ... Her personality seems Genuine & She Is OBVIOUSLY Happiest when playing music with friends .
Shes also pretty damn Pretty . Beautiful Smile .
Keep It Up , Reina .
Same here. Been binge watching her music videos and am very impressed.
Definitely a class rendition of this beautiful song. A tribute, not a copy.
The reverb surprised me... but it's entirely appropriate - You have made this bigger than just one person with a guitar.. (with some fancy fingerwork on that electric...) Fabulous! This is the kind of thing that makes me appreciate you even more as a musican...
Reina, you and your colleagues aren’t just fine musicians. You’re musicologists... music fans who mine for melodic gems like this one. Your arrangements go beyond “covering” a song... you make them your own, which takes skill. Your taste is also wide ranging and eclectic, which matches mine. And you’ve introduced me to tunes that are now part of my music library. Thanks for all you do!
Very well said. I tried but didn't achieve what you so eloquently explained. Thanks
You make the world a better place. Thank you.
Brilliant. I'm gonna sing this to my wife of 12 years, somewhere in the near future.
"Woman" - I adore this song and tut tut on Toni for her too cheesy. We have so much in common, Rachelle, which we have no need to get into. I was wondering about the solo and you nailed it. Bravo for the solo and for bringing to light a song that beats "Baker Street" hands down, in my humble opinion. Take care, be safe and scowl at Toni for me. 😄
I love the way she sings “woman”
Reina using a power chord! How dare you! All kidding aside she really knows her way around a fretboard. Excellent guitar work. This is super hard to do and sing as well. I'm guilty as well of praising Toni's guitar work and ignoring how good she is at it as well.
Ditto Jimmy Page, Robert Plant.
She's a competent rhythm player, but these are pretty basic chords. I say this as a compliment, but these are not complex jazz chords -- which can get difficult.
Agree. Both are excellent musicians and guitarists
Thank you for taking me back to 70's vacation road trips.
Been moving around alot lately.. but there was a period from June ‘21 to Sept ‘21 that i lived in my childhood bedroom temporarily…. i must say, this cover was a mainstay during that time and reminds me of that time today
Extraordinaire. One of my favorite song for ever. I am sure Gerry Rafferty is certainly crying in heaven with this fantastic cover. So beautiful voice and guitar.
Always loved this song, hell, the whole “City To City” album is one of my favorites of the late 70s. It was like an oasis of chill in the desert of disco that was prevalent at the time. Great cover, Reina, thanks for sticking to your guns and doing the work to bring it to us. And Toni, your lesson for the week is also from the 70s and my high school band director, who used to tell us “Cheese sells!” 😉
Back when you only purchased an album because it was strong front to back.
From a Scotsman. That was Magnificent.
Tone and timbre are absolutely perfect.
just as my parents got their vaccination and i finally got my name on a list too. when a good friend of mine is done with a whole year of chemo therapy. when the world is still complicated, but i feel hope again after a long time, you find a song to remind us of the one thing we all need to have hope: someone to keep holding on.
I have not heard this song in a while. I love this and you have sung this just right. I would rather listen to your voice sing it than anyone else. Keep up the wonderful songs and performing these songs!
This song is a classic!!! Not cheesy at all.
Much obliged, this brings forgotten songs alive
Suddenly Reina on lead guitar is not such a bad idea!
She nails it!
Not cheesy, exquisite. Loved the guitar solo too!
I was 14 when city to city came out and it was a fantastic album all the way through Gerry taken from us to soon rest in peace!!
I've always wanted to sit under a tree sing and play the guitar but I was useless sit there and listen to this that will do nicely
Ahhh, Gerry! The first music I could only describe as "mellow". Beautiful. And Reina, you do it justice, your electric guitar is lovely.
Perfect cover of a classic. The simplicity of your voice and the soft acoustic and the add of the electric lead is spot on for this pure version.
Well done. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
That Album ...Spring of 1978...you know how some songs can put you right back there. Thank you for doing it.
This is a goosebump-er for me, can’t stop listening to this - thankyou 😍😍🙏
Ah! You had me as soon as you did this Rafferty song! Kudos "Right Down The Line".
I Love You Reina! I'm sure she doesn't love me back... but that's OK. I can listen to and watch her perform all day every day. What a Sweet Soul!
Your wonderful voice and this unforgettable song simply fit together perfectly, an everlasting experience! Thank you very much for that❤
Gerry Rafferty is classic. From this song to Baker Street to Stuck in the Middle....no cheese to be found in his music! I usually agree with Toni, but not this time. Big miss on her part. And by the way, you nailed it!!!
beatiful, From here in Brazil, despite the distance, I love your music, I always enjoy it.
You are incredible Reina,
I hope someone who knows one day will be able to personally know and hear your music. Big hug and always a lot of success.
If I were a close friend to Reina I would work with her on developing a vocal growl - it would add SO MUCH to her vocal tool box. She exists solely on the upper end of the range which ends up eliminating SO much feeling from her songs. There is such emotion in these songs that she never comes close to touching because she doesn't dig deep. She stays on the surface... and it's limiting. Love her voice - would love to see her expand it's power.
I expect that she COULD do it but chooses not to. Agree that a bit of growl & grit would enhance her appeal but it’s not what she’s going for. Feeling? That’s subjective isn’t it. Sometimes a cover is just a fun exercise and I think she got the job done here.
Just found this and you really can read between the lines and set the stage for a heartfelt presentation .
I have always loved this song but you shared something in the way the lyrics hadn't been touched before .
Wow
Great version.. well done. Love Gerry and everything he does not just because I'm Scottish 😁. Right down the line is my favourite of all his songs.. it's brilliant in every way 🌞
that means a lot coming from a Scot.
@@djmips 👍 Was sincerely meant... lovely version 😊
Oo-oo...a terrific interpretation of a terrific tune! Fantastic job by the Notorious RDC! Thanks for bringing a smile to this Sunday morning...just as you always do. Right on time! ✌️❤️☕️🎶
I must admit I wasn’t a great GR fan at the time but this song is impeccable and you really do it justice. So much so I went back to his greatest album and boy did he write some really good stuff.
I keep coming back to this - love it
Bravo, Reina, I thought Toni was suddenly there when I heard the electric guitare, I had to put my glasses on !...
Haven’t heard this song in maybe 20 years. Love this version.
Toni you are amazing! I can't believe how well you play that bass. Strong hands & great lead work. Plus great vocals! Very cool! Vince James (Ajello)
Greatness. Doing this jam so much justice.
One of my favorite songs ever. Beautiful version, Reina.
Thanks lady, a very laid back song for a laid back morning. Hope everything is going going well for y’all.
Wonderful! The emotion brings tears to my eyes.
Thank You - I love to hear You sing!
