    Having a stuck torque converter and flywheel is very common with engines that have seized up, or that have thrown rods, or will otherwise not turn. It is very difficult to get a good grip on the flywheel when trying to get the things to rotate. I found 2 ways that helped me get the job done though. Hopefully they can help someone else out as well.
    This was done on a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but the applications I am sure will carry over to other makes and models.

    Most locked up motors you can get it to spin backwards. The connecting rod is usually what breaks and wedges on the piston downstroke. Reversing the rotation you can get one spin out of the flywheel. Enough to get out the bolts/nuts. You have one go at it so get them as you go.

    I have a 2004 Silverado paid to have the transmission overhauled it kept going out on me so I kept taking it back to the mechanic shop several times he told me that transmission is good and what's causing it to go out is the crankshaft is failing causing it to have play so it pulls a torque converter out breaking the pump rotor I just want to know if this makes sense can someone help me out ?

    • @dynastyman09
      @dynastyman09 Před 2 lety

      Yes that’s true. Also, transmissions number 1 cause of failure is a bad engine. What your mechanic stated is true the worn crankshaft will cause too much play, the longer it wears the faster it will finally cause failure

    So you're turning the flexplate while everything in the engine is not moving ? I want to know because I have the exact issue, i need the engine out but cant get to all of the flex plate bolts because my engine is locked up.

    Got a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country with a hydro locked engine, the window to unbolt the 4 bolts for the torque converter is very narrow and does not allows for this method, I was told by a mechanic i need to pull out the whole engine + transmission together in this case but I do not see how I will separate the two later on if can not access those bolts now wont be able to access then later with the whole thing out of the engine bay, another mechanic suggested to pull out the oil pan then the lower block to access the connecting rods caps underneath then unbolt each hopefully finding the one or ones damaged and freeing the crankshaft to rotate but another mechanic told me not to waste my time; it is twice the job pulling the tranny with the engine on these Chryslers; I do have 3 feet clearance underneath the van with a half lift and have also a joist but do not have a cart that would support the weight of the engine plus transmission, I thing that hydraulic cart I have from Harbor Freight only supports 500 pounds, I really do not see how will i separate the two but have to do something soon, just have no idea what exactly and no mechanic shops or dealer are off the equation, cant afford them

      Might be too late since you commented a month ago but just seperate the engine and trans and carefully pull the engine away from the trans and the torque converter will come with it. You’ll need to use a wrench to remove the torque converter bolts then reinstall the torque converter on the trans before reinstalling new engine
