This is why delirium is a very common problem at the ICU. Typically, delirium arises in approximately 20-50% of patients who are critically ill and not receiving mechanical ventilation, and in 50-80% of patients who are mechanically ventilated.
Hello Mr. Davis. Your Father is very very sick! He's on a lot of equipment, including a ventilator to help him breathe, a dialysis machine to do the work for his kidneys, because his kidneys have completely shut down, he's on a machine called an ECMO machine to support his heart and his lungs while they're so ill, he's on IV IV medications to keep him sedated and paralyzed, and he's on IV antibiotics. We don't know what kind of prognosis he has, but He's the sickest patient here in the ICU. We're going to do whatever we can go try to make him better, but I'll have to be honest with you. It isn't very likely that he can survive this. HE IS VERY VERY SICK!! He coded three times in the hellicopter on his way here, and then he coded twice here. He's on the ECMO, and the machine is doing pretty much all of the work for his heart, and his lungs! We have him on the ventilator while he's on ECMO to keep the air sacks in his lungs open! When you go into his room, you're going to see a lot of equipment. Also, I forgot to mention, that your Father is on Heparin, so that the blood in the ECMO tubing, and the Dialysis Tubing won't clot! You need to be prepared for the worst!
I love the Dutch Lady nurse comforting the patient that his Operation was good and he is now in Intensiv care.
sounds like hell
Ikr. It sounds disheartening.💔
