Building the Kitchen Cabinet w/ Oven! Ram ProMaster Van Build Conversion - Episode 17 | Jason Klunk

  • I finally got to the part of the build I was really looking forward to, building out my kitchen cabinet! The dream has always been to have an oven in the van so I can make pizza after some solid surf sessions and we are getting closer to that being real lol. I’m building the cabinet to be about 56” wide. The depth of the cabinet will be about 24” with the face frame and 36” tall with the butcher block counter. I'm using 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood for all of my lower cabinets, as well as poplar 1x2's for the face frames, and poplar 1x3's for stringers.
    I have a lot of respect for people who make cabinets, it requires a lot of patience and precision. I’m really stoked with how my cabinet is turning out given the tools I have available and with my limited knowledge.
    I feel like I may have solved one of the issues that a lot of people struggle with; how to keep the drawers shut/locked when driving the van. Most people end up using the plastic RV clips or brass latches. With these push to open drawer slides, I think I may be able to get away from using those, at least for my drawers.
    Thank you for all the support. Next week I’ll be finishing up the cabinet and getting it installed in the van, so stay tuned. Yewwwwwwwww!

    The van is looking good man! I’m currently building my own ram pro master up here in Alaska (semi-similar build as yours but you’re definitely more skilled with woodworking than I). I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the detail and the step by step process that you show in your videos. I’ve used them to help me with floor, walls and all sorts of odds and ends. In a world filled with before and after shots where everything looks like it took a day and a half after you filter it through Instagram, I really just wanted to let you know that you stand out. Keep it up!

    Lovely work, you're very talented. I always wanted push to open drawers, on doing research this is what they're all saying: "Don't do it! I did and regret it. Will be replacing them soon. They open every time I drive 🚗 😒"
    Soft close is what you want, where they are stiff to pull open, hense they stay closed.

    • @JasonKlunk
      @JasonKlunk  Před 3 lety +1

      haha. Woodworking is interesting, it's definitely very approachable for someone without experience. In the end it all depends on how picky and accurate you want to be. The difficulty comes when you start trying to build cabinetry and things like that where everything needs to be completely square, and that is hard to achieve.

  • @StevenDavisPhoto

    Since those drawers have to push in, once you put the drawer faces on, how can you push them in since they'd hit the face frame of the box?

    • @JasonKlunk
