The wall covering company should have its own channel! That would be so interesting to watch, the research that goes into it all and how they process it! The clock is perfect btw and like another viewer said, I fell in love with the blue and gold paper they reproduced. Absolutely gorgeous 😍

@@jennifercampbell7698 Sarah Beeny Restoration Nightmare had an episode where she was able to find the original manufacture of the paper for one of the public rooms in the manor house that she and her husband renovated. They allowed her to video the block printing process and I'm pretty sure I've seen it shown on Guy Martin's series where he renovated a long narrow boat with his brother.
I fell in love with the reproduction of the gold paper with blue in it and the dark reddish bordering. I don’t know how it would look in your chateau but I must say that it is the most beautiful paper that I have seen in my life. It’s a shame that someone would hang pictures over it. How gorgeous! I can just imagine the price.

Agree 💯. It has gold and grey in it too which I think would look beautiful in the salon with turquoise accessories. Would not darken the room at all as it is filled with light. Very opulent looking which you need for your salon

When you find the right piece, it is always worth it. It is possible the clock may have been in a large glass dome at one point
I’m pretty sure the clock had no glass surround
You can buy reproduction glass domes for mantle clocks on ebay. They usually had dust domes on them. It would have had a wooden base with small feet & a groove that the dome sat on.
@ I agree however it would have had a door on the back to hide the works.
I agree the clock would originally have had a base, usually velvet covered into which a glass dome would have fitted! ( I worked in the jewellery trade for many years in Mallory’s Bath ) I loved those wall papers, very much suited to the chateau!
The backs usually are made of wood. Maybe Adrian could reproduce it
The mantel clock is truly a special find. The wallpaper shop is amazing to have as a knowledgeable resource and hopefully within your budget.
Those wallpapers in that factory look gorgegous! You can definitely see the care they put into them.

The Napoleon clock is exquisite Carol and worth every penny you would have paid for it! As for the wallpaper restorers - what an amazing group of artisans. I adored the gold background wallpaper with all the added colour blocks on it and your white and gold choice looks ideal for a bedroom/dressing room situation where a busy wallpaper would be lost amongst colourful clothing etc (IMHA anyway.😅) Now you are down to doing some of the fun stuff! 👏💖

Love the clock, so jealous it works, we have some old clocks and they don’t work because we can’t get them level 😂 old house but not as old as yours. That gold and teal wallpaper was just gorgeous, hope they can remake yours it will be beautiful! You all work so hard and I can’t believe how much you’ve got done!

The Napoleon III ormolu clock is perfect for your salon. The open back is often found on such clocks and doesn’t necessarily mean that a door is missing. On the mantel shelf it would look great flanked by a pair of ormolu candlesticks or Vieux Paris porcelain vases.
Love the clock! And the white and gold paper is beautiful but you're right its too light for the salon. The gold wallpaper that was reproduced at the printers was stunning 😍
Hi, Carole and Adrian! I also agree that the clock looks wonderful in the salon. Since these clocks often stood in front of mirrors, making the back visible to onlookers, my suspicion is that there probably was a cover for the back, and I would not be surprised if it was pierced metal like the sides. If there are attachment points around the circular opening, then it's possible to fashion a new one out of a sheet of brass. As for the wallpaper, I think the original one would be absolutely fabulous to reintroduce into the space. I loved how the room looked in its decrepitude with the grey walls being the perfect shade for the wallpaper. It would look amazing! Of course, I'm not the one having it reproduced.... Love the clock and I think it’s perfect for the salon. Praying the wallpaper is found and you can afford it. Whatever the price, it would be worth it to have the original wallpaper back up. You’ve done such an amazing job so far and the salon deserves nothing less. Sending prayers it will work out 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

The clock is extraordinarily gorgeous, and perfect in the Salon! If not recently serviced, it's always a good idea to have it done, then stored until renovations are over, as even small bits of grit can bend the tines on the gears. Congratulations on the finding the wallpaper for your dressing room! I thinks it's lovely!

That wall paper custom factory is amazing. I’m glad you took us there. That’s so cool how they can mimic very old paper if people want to restore older designs. WOW! Here we go...the clock, just absolutely stunning - loved hearing the chime. Dressing Room wallpaper beautiful. No doubt the wallpaper quote from the company in Tours (amazing artists!) will bring tears BUT after searching and searching no wallpaper has come close to the subtle beauty of the original. On a lighter note, the garlic keeper ingenious (both Mom's version and the new one). A bientot!

just watched this. We will now have to see the wallpaper factory when we visit! That style of French mantel clocks, as others have said, were often designed to show off the back mechanism as it sat in front of the mirror so, no back. Nice piece

Those wallpapers are absolutely stunning! I am sure you are extremely happy now that you waited, rather than going ahead with any of the previous options. Hopefully the quote will be within reason & 🤔 excellent that they are diligently doing their research first to see if they can find the original source of the paper. It might lead you to other future finds, and even if that manufacturer is gone - well, you are receiving clues here to the history of the château (valueable in itself to know that, IMO).
Love also the bargain find of white & gold - will love to see that come up later, in a room that is both softer lit & on a colour scheme that is not “competing”. I’m thinking a soft pink shade, or a soft green shade of paint and/or grey would bring that pattern out best.

Yes..the clock had a back and they were often a gilt-bronze hinged ring with a beveled glass interior.
Love this channel. Both just so friendly and down to earth. You both seem to be prepared to wait to find the items you want rather than just choose something to get it finished. The clock is lovely. The wallpaper company fascinating. I’ve a large collection of clocks, as my grandfather restored them. I have one Ithaca Calendar Clock from the 1860s that has one gear that take four years to make one revolution to account for leap year.
