I bought a DGT SE a few months ago after seeing your review. It’s an amazing guitar. ❤ I notice I have it in “split” coil mode ~90% of the time. Your playing is fantastic! I’m working on the exercises that you post. Lots of good stuff! I really enjoy your channel and appreciate the work that you do!

I bought the flamed maple one months ago and consider it a total home run. This month, I decided to buy the gold top version and see what’s what. It’s every bit as good as the FMT. Insanely great guitar even if we completely ignore the price.

I was very prs resistant, but all the glowing reviews, and David Grissom himself saying there is very little difference from the se and the core, curiosity got the best of me . I'm completely blown away by how good it is. I have several guitars that cost several thousand dollars more that aren't as good. The pickups are incredible, they sound amazing from barely cracked open, to cranked. Dollar for dollar, I can't imagine a better value. I'll never spend 4 thousand dollars on a guitar again!!?

Simply gorgeous playing! 😎 I bought the Gold Top when it came out and I absolutely love it. It instantly became my go-to guitar for pretty much everything I play. £799 is a bargain for such a superb guitar. I can't justify buying a second one, but it sure is tempting at this price! 😉I recently bought an SE Hollowbody II Piezo from Andertons in their big discount offer, and that's very good too - allowing me to add some useful "acoustic" tones - but I definitely prefer the SE DGT's neck.

John, I've really come to appreciate your channel. Honest, no-nonsense reviews, great guitar playing, and I even enjoy your sense of humor (ha). Keep up the good work, and may I extend my congratulations as well as my best wishes for your continued success as a musician and content creator. As for the DGT SE, I have a Goldtop. The SEs came out shortly after I scored a good deal on a Core model, and with all of the glowing reviews I figured I owed it to myself to try both for a while and compare. I had every expectation of returning the SE because I assumed the Core would eclipse it in every way. As it has turned out, I kept the SE and I'm going to sell the Core. I actually prefer some aspects of the SE to the Core. There, I said it. It's a fantastic instrument for the price, and still a really nice instrument when compared to more expensive examples.

I have three PRS SE GUITARS. A 24 Standard, a 24/8 custom and a 245. First thing they did was put locking tuners on them. The 245 has a thicker neck and I love this Guitar. The other two 24 fret guitars now I’m used to them play like magic. I’m going to 9s on all my other guitars. I have no problem with Indonesia guitars. I live my Yamaha RS 502 also.

Always had a problem with split coils, but like you, I predominantly leave it on most of the time as it sounds great on these PRS guitars. Great tuning tip JNC! I tried David's personal DGT SE at a four day guitar workshop just about the time they launched. What an amazing instrument and value. • @LozBlain
    @LozBlain Před 8 měsíci

Gold top SE owner here, wonderful guitar and a great deal but I've got some criticisms. The knob and switch layout for one, I'd prefer volume/balance/tone with the switch above or below the neck pickup, and I find it odd that the tone knob is a low resistance speed knob where the volumes are slower. Finish on the neck is quite thick and a little sticky. Tone is exceptionally bright, which won't be for everyone - there's something nice about having to work a little harder to get the top end out. And I ended up replacing bridge and saddles with graphtech gear because it was binding with trem use and going out of tune. Having said that, it's still my favourite guitar.

Tied a PRS SE Paul’s guitar yesterday at GuitarGuitar Camden, same price (£799). Been thinking about pulling the trigger but deep down I think I should really try the S2 custom to compare. Didn’t like the SE custom 24, I can’t put my finger on the exact reason. The DGT seems great but sounds very bright. I have a fair number of “bright” guitars by now, but I wouldn’t mind trying one. I would change the wiring, though.

The Electronics for the bridge pickup died in mine. I was doing a gig with just the modeller and I couldn’t get a good sound. Turns out the pickup was barely working.
I’d only had it about a month so it was well and truly witching warranty and PRS have fixed it.

I couldn't pass up a deal American Musical had on Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder FR. $599 I don't think a Floyd Rose can be beat for tuning stability, which is well, kinda critical lol. I also like that I can do a simple loaded pick guard swap with any pickup combination I want, which I will do. I also like the X-Jumbo frets and the heel position of the truss rod adjustment. The other reason I went with the Schecter is I also have a Limited Edition Corsair (matte black, gold hardware, no Bigsby) that has a flawless ebony board and neck. With a pickup swap (Lollar Imperials) I think I can cover the PRS and Les Paul territory. That said, I totally agree the PRS DGT SE and Silver Sky SE are very good guitars and there are some great deals to be had on them. I just don't have the cash to own both and have the Sun Valley Super Shredder with some very minor Floyd Upgrades will have absolute rock solid tuning stability. Love your channel JNC ❤ Been a subscriber for some time now. Oh, and a note for those who just watched your Helix Best Effects Unit... American Musical has the full Helix board on sale for $1299 at the moment. So easy to use and sounds good. However I just have to keep saving for a Fractal FM9. Not as easy to use but it's the last amp and effects I'll ever have to buy, so I'll learn it eventually.

The only PRS i own is the SE Custom 24. I absolutely love the feel, looks, and build quality, but i cant stand its pickups. I really want to change all the electronics and put Fralin pickups in it. Out of the new SE models i really want to try the McCarty 594 only because i want to add an LP style of guitar to my collection and i know i will like the build quality and feel of the instrument versus trying another type of LP in that price range, but i would probably end up wanting to change the electronics if its anything like the Custom 24 in terms of tone. How do the DGT pickups sound in comparison to the Custom 24?

I think Philip McKnight suggested there might be a glut in the market atm, so everyone's off-loading stock with the exception of the small premium guitar makers? During Lockdown, tons of instruments were sold. Manufacturers were hit by supply shortages so shelves emptied. Factories churned as many guitars post-pandemic to meet demand, just as inflation sky-rocketed - folk had less disposable income, fewer sales, suddenly everybody had too many guitars. There have been permanent bargains all year.

    My PRS 2023
February - Tried but returned TWO SE245s
The first one had uneven frets and a barely adjustable bridge position.
The bridge had to be moved So far back to achieve intonation that the posts must have been drilled on the wrong place or the neck was set too far into the pocket.
    I sent that straight back.
The replacement was better but the bridge pickup died.
I wonder if these bulk retailers get ‘special deals’ on ‘Factory Seconds’ ?
July - Though a bit tentative about PRS QC, I succumbed to the Interwebz hype for the SE DGT and was pleasantly surprised.
    Almost inspirationally so.
It wasn’t perfect out of the box but I decided to keep it and the seller was very helpful getting the high E saddle to NOT foul the trem screw that it had been hitting.
They sent me a ‘modified’ saddle that cleared the head of the pivot screw when correctly intonated.
Four months later and I’ve got one fret just slightly pinging on all but the lightest of strums; just that one fret.
10th Fret is a fraction of a thou high, making notes fretted on the 9th buzz a little on the 3 higher strings.
A bit of ‘Spot Levelling’ is in order; once I buy or make a levelling edge slotted for a 25” scale.
Generally though, I’m very happy with it, it’s sound and it’s ease of playing.
October - Having fought off the SE Silver Sky hype for over a year I gave in.
I must say that this has had me the most pleasantly surprised.
    Again, not perfect.
What is it with PRS and intonation positioning ??
Again the high E saddle was impinging with the trem pivot right in front of it.
This both mucks up intonation and Trem Tuning Stability.
    Three choices faced me:
    #1 Send it back
#2 Back it off and live with the intonation being Low.
#3 ‘Adjust’ the metal of the offending saddle and get it properly intonated.
    I chose the latter.
    Everything sorted right ?
    Well, No ..
The ‘Satin’ finish on the back of the neck had rough patches, and even a couple of bumps.
Not ‘Horrible’ but Noticeable while playing.
Some gentle attention with some 2000 Grit removed the bumps and furthermore left the whole neck Luxuriously smooth, while not messing with whatever coating that PRS/Cor-Tek have applied.
I mean Luxurious !! Almost erotically so …

Not too dissimilar from a 50s neck - probably get your hands on one before buying if you're worried as it's definitely a more substantial neck - really similar size wise to their wide fat or pattern fat or whatever it's called?

This or a Revstar standard at that price point would be a fair comparison. Might be horses for courses, but if I was looking at the DGT SE the Revstar would be the measuring stick.

    • @rowbags3017
      @rowbags3017 Před 8 měsíci

I've got a Revstar Standard and an SE DGT and they are both excellent quality. The Revstar especially offers some really unusual tones. In terms of feel, though, I much prefer the SE DGT. It instantly felt like a guitar I was already familiar with, whereas my Revstar has a definite "new guitar feel" and it's going to need playing-in for a while before I'm really at home with it. It actually reminds me of my Gibson The Paul that I bought new in 1978. That had an almost identical feel when new, and it's aged beautifully - so I have high hopes for the Revstar.

    • @GitShiddy

@@rowbags3017 I've played every PRS SE that's been made except the DGT. When I played a Revstar my first thought was "this is what I wished all those PRSs felt like" which is why I instantly bought the Revstar. And think the comparison is apt. They're different, but mainly in appeal I feel.

@@GitShiddy I've just played both back to back for comparison. The Revstar has a "precise and clinical" feeling neck, while the SE DGT's feels more "smooth and played-in". Acoustically, the Revstar is much brighter, but I prefer the pickups on the SE DGT. They are both exceptionally good for the money (the Revstar is really under-priced for its quality), but they have a very different feel. If it's any help as a point of reference, the SE DGT feels much more played-in than the SE Semihollow II Piezo - which is somewhere between the SE DGT and the Revstar.

@@rowbags3017 Semihollow II is in my top 3 of PRSs I've played. Clearly I should find a DGT.

I worked in guitarguitar for a while and played a few PRS guitars. High end, low end, pretty much all left me cold. Nothing wrong with them at all, I just didn’t connect with them.
The DGT SE is exceptional though. All the reviews, including yours, made me want to at least try one. I found one about 6 months ago and it just said play me. If you can get one for £799, you just can’t go wrong.

I have an S2 McCarty that I just can't seem to bond with. Even put the 58/15 LT pups in it. It's okay but doesn't blow me away.

Would love to hear what you would think of the Ibanez ichi100 talman only saying it cause you said the dgt might be your favorite guitar of the year, and I think it might be a good competitor, and it’s regular price is 699$ us. Just a thought, great video as always.
