Watercolour Neutrals | Unique Mixes

Hi Everyone, I haven't done one of these watercolour mixing videos in a long while. It is such a magic watching two colours collide together when it comes to watercolours, there is nothing like it! Here are a few neutral mixes that I have discovered and wanted to share with you, they are unique as some of them are heavily granulated and others are very subtle and gentle. Enjoy! :)

One of my favorite mixes is Potter’s Pink and Cobalt Teal-it makes a soft grey with interesting granulation. I think you’d like it. I’m inspired by your video to try mixing Cascade Green with Potter’s Pink!

Hi Alyona! I'm watching all your videos over and over again, I love your channel! and I'm finally writing a comment just now! Btw, I'd like you to notice what a beautiful skin tone you got mixing, I think, serpentine and English red earth. In the video that colour looks pretty similar to the colour of your hands! It's so lovely and easy to achieve and looks quite transparent too. I hope you can use it for your dolls ❤️

Could French Ochre serve as the muted yellow option? I have been wanting to buy that color (since watching a different one of your videos). My bank account has definitely taken a hit since I have been binge watching your videos. I love how you mix colors, and it makes me want to buy everything so I can play too. However my level of painting is at "swatch." But you would never know by the quality and quantity of paints I have purchased!! I really love your fashion faces too. They always make me smile with their quirkiness!! Please keep the videos coming. It is therapy for me...and likely for many others as well! Hugs to you Alyona!

Would you consider doing a video of attempting to create dupes of the Schmincke super granulating colors (Glacier, Deep Sea, Galaxy, Forest, Tundra)...like how you created an Undersea Green variant in this video (which is fabulous by the way).

Interesting how the paper makes a huge difference. I don’t like cascade green on it’s own, but I love it in your mixes here....truly, though, I’ve decided to get larger tubes of one warm and one cool of each primary and start using a limited palette. Too many shades to choose from can be a problem for me.

After filming this video I think I bought the W&N Potter’s Pink and it is so much prettier than the D.S. one. Also a lot easier to rewet. :)

@Alyona you have so many watercolour tubes: how do you organize them? Do you fill them in pans or how to you keep track of what colours you have?

Birgit I keep my tubes in metal tins and I keep mini tubes separate from large, that way it’s easier for me to know what’s where. Also I recommend keeping a swatch journal, makes it easy to find the right colour when you need it! :)

Is there a big difference between SCHMINCKE Mars Black and DS Lunar Black?

On first glance it seems there are more smaller particles in the DS Lunar Black. But I will do a comparison soon. :)
