Yamcha fought the saibaman because Krillin had already died against Tambourine (Yamcha survived with 1 leg injured). He said he would go first, because if Krillin died, then he couldn't be brought back a second time. I will never forget that heroic line. Most people don't acknowledge this, and it should be passed to those "dragon ball z only" guys!

Imagine You, Z fans, watching cabba come up and just killing every character you liked...... how'd you feel? No, not Beerus, Cabba, or someone even less important.....
I've said it before, Yamcha is one of my favorites. Not just for his strength, but the little things nobody talks about when compared to the others. He can cook. He is the 3rd strongest pureblood human on the planet. He had Bulma in her prime. He GOT A JOB! Not just any job. He became an athlete! So he makes insane amounts of money all his own, unlike Goku and Vegeta. Outclassed or not, he still shows up for the fight. Yamcha. Fuck yeah.
Ignoring all of the filler (fighting Recoome etc.) so canon paladins won't kill me, Yamcha is still at least as powerful as the strongest low-class Saiyan warriors, which is pretty impressive considering Saiyans were a feared warrior race with few equals and a far-reaching reputation. I can't seem to find any reliable non-filler indication of exactly how strong he ever became, but it stands to reason he got at least somewhat stronger than he was vs the Saibamen over the years even with his retirement from the martial arts world. It's probably reasonable to put him at or near "Elite Saiyan" level at his peak. Perhaps he's well beyond that and I just can't find the tidbit of canon data to back that up. If you go by filler the dude is stronger than a member of the Ginyu force at least, and far far stronger than that at best. Stronger than Recoome is an absurd level of strength that, pre-Super Saiyan era, would have put him on the short list of strongest beings in the universe. At any rate the man is a beast and would wipe the floor with 99% of superheroes and other martial characters in the world of fiction.
While Goku and Vegeta are on Beerus planet, Yamcha reveals that he learned the Spirit Bomb and defeats the villian by manipulating it the way he did with his own Spirit Ball technique.
@@True2ChainzLilWayne That was the fan manga that caught Toryable fan manga called my life as yamcha that Akira Toriyama found intresting that he got to be his appertance.
Only in Dragonball can you be top 3 strongest human, a professional athlete who amassed a fortune (not inherited) and die protecting humanity and still be classified a loser.
Imagine if we got Yamcha in the tournament of power. We could have had Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha back to back, in their turtle hermit gi, fighting off an entire team with Roshi sitting with Whis and Beerus proudly watching his former pupils.
Bro just the thought of the three of them working together against someone in the tournament of power as Roshi watches them with a proud look on his face is already making me a little teary eyed.
It's wild that Master Roshi got into the tournament of power but Yamcha didn't. At this point, Yamcha should be far stronger than Roshi. Roshi struggled against kid Goku and didn't stand a chance against King Picollo. And we never see Roshi ever training in his old age, so at most we can presume that he largely retains the same skill and power levels throughout the series, if not downright declined with age and not training. Yamcha on the other hand consistently trained, he gave Tien a difficult time, and after that trained with Korin, trained with Popo and Kami, and continued to train for many years during DBZ. He was likely at his peak during the Android saga, and by that point I hope we can all agree that any of the Z fighters dwarfed Master Roshi's in terms of power, fighting skills, and Ki control. Remember that it took Roshi 50 years to develop the Kame Hame Ha, the only Ki blast that he can use, yet the others can use a plethora of Ki attacks. I don't know, I get that Roshi is a beloved character, but at this point he shouldn't be able to compete with the best fighters in the multiverse. He should act more like a wise mentor rather than a fighter. His best years are behind him, and even then he was never all that strong. At most we can probably say he was around Tao Pai Pai's level, or maybe around Tien's level from when he was first introduced back in DB.
As of Super, Yamcha’s the only character with a morally valid claim for a wish for Immortality on the dragon balls. He’s found a cute alien babe, but she ages very slowly and only wants to marry in 100 years. That’s a no brainer imo.
@@dane1382: They’re talking about Heroes, where Yamcha meets an alien female named Vidro, whom he saved from Hit (anime) or Meta Cooler (manga) and she became smitten with him to the point of marriage. Shortly after Demigra is destroyed, Vidro tells Yamcha that their wedding will be in 1200 years (The Glass Tribe’s age of consent). So it’s ultimately impractical.
Watching OG after only being familiar with Z was so cool seeing “random background characters” have full fleshed out stories. Watching it from og to z it’s heart breaking seeing the former top guys (tien, yamacha, yajirobe, korin, kami) get completely tossed to the side
I agree. As someone who watched this since the og , I love Yamcha, Tien and Lunch, I'm really sad when they just becime background characters as the story progressed further. And Toriyama forgot Lunch too.
Yajirobe was never a top guy though. He was a relatively tough guy who lived in the forest and survived by hunting and fishing. He gets his ass kicked by one of King Piccolo's henchmen before Goku has to intervene. But from then on, he just sticks around Korin so that he can eat lots of Senzu beans so that he never has to go hungry again.
OG DB is absolutely great and deserves more credit. Had tons of fun with it in my childhood both reading the manga (which was very popular in Brazil) and watching the anime (which as also extremely popular in Brazil)
That's something that really irks me to be honest. I started with the OG anime and only later watched Z. Yamcha was one of my favorites by the end. So were Krillin and Tien. Ok, Krillin still has his moments but after the Freeza saga, Goku and Vegeta basically became the main characters with Gohan having his moments here and there. Even Piccolo was irrelevant for a while there. All the world building, all that character development flushed down the toilet.
I once calculated Yamcha's power, this guy gets the power to destroy planets like Jupiter AS EARLY AS THE SAIYAN SAGA. JUPITER. U KNOW HOW BIG JUPITER IS? THE RED SPOT ALONE IS LIKE 2 EARTH'S WIDE.
@@iseeopenings3921master roshi full power can vaporize the moon and scans of him being able to power up a star in og db. Yamcha is way above that roshi during saiyan saga.

Maybe instead of wishing for a power boost he wishes his potential to be unlocked and that what has been holding him back is removed. Allowing him to gain the power boost in an earned and respectful way.
1. He survived 300x gravity, that alone is BADASS; 2. If Master Roshi can flex on Jiren - so can Yamcha; 3. Maybe have Yamcha become the next God of Earth?

I'll always love Yamcha for a variety of reasons, but one of the best is that he never, EVER hesitates to jump in to fight the good fight. He is ALWAYS ready to fight for his friends and for what's right. He's there when the team needs him, when the world needs him, and he's a damn good fighter in his own right. It's not his fault that he's up against literal GODS in his universe :(
I honestly would prefer a rebeoot where the power gaps aren't anywhere near as wide, the cell and freeza sagas overlap massively; and it is gohan, not Goku, that becomes the first super saiyan against freeza, in place of him doing it vs cell And there's only ever one super saiyan, Gohan. That's it. no others. And he goes super saiyan when goku dies at the hands of freeza, who is invading earth to use the dragon balls. Also, on top of all that, the DB's are nerfed into the ground and can't resurrect people This setting would raise the stakes on each individual fight, would make it so that while the likes of Tien and Yamcha would still get slammed by nappa and vegeta, they would at least stand a chance. Also the ONLY characters powerful enough to destroy planets would be Perfect Cell (who would, instead of time travelling, simply have been designed many years earlier than he was in the original DBZ), SSJ Gohan, Freeza, and Beerus. That's it. Nobody else. Buu could be retconned completely, his arc was stupid anyway. @@DragoonCenten Nah you didn't read it Goku would not have died before, this would be his only death The Dragonballs would also be nerfed, and unable to resurrect people - that power just takes away the impact of any deaths of characters. True. I'm glad he low-balled Yamaha here. Halibu was at least as strong as Scholar said but let's remember that Halibu was basically in the league of Pikkon. Pikkon was strong enough to one shot Perfect Cell in the Buu saga. I'm not saying that Yamcha is near perfect cell level but if we compare Pikkon's growth to the theoretical growth of Halibu, Yamcha could have reasonably gotten MUCH stronger than the Goku that fought with Pikkon. After all, Halibu is the kind of guy to train 24/7 just like Pikkon. You can say that Pikkon grew much faster because of training with Goku but there is no way Halibu wouldn't have been grown a decent amount in all that time.

People forgot how high the stakes were back then. Remember, Yamcha insisted on taking over Krillin’s place in fighting the next Saibamen, acting on a bad hunch (and he was right). His actions there allowed for Krillin to survive this battle against the 2 Saiyans.
As someone grew up watching og db , Yamcha is one of my favourite characters. I agree with all that being said in this video. Yamcha shows us if things don’t go your way you should still persevere and make those decisions in life because they could pay off in the end. He’s just like us in real life
One thing I want to point out is that on the Sayan fight ABSOLUTELY all of the Z fighters would have died with that surprise attack from the sabaiman except for piccolo because of his regeneration. And let's be honest Krilin was going to die first if Yamcha wasn't such good friend and confident enough he could win, something that technically he did before that self destruct move.
Yamcha's two only personal accomplishmentd throughout the entire series. Was getting over his fear of girls. Just to end up alone in any romantic relationship anyway. And bringing the first introduction of any kind of a spirit bomb into the show. That's about all the writing has ever giving him.
We need more wholesome character redemptions like this. One example can be that Goku is a good dad or even about Hercule, who is also seen as a joke character, but he legit won the world martial arts tournament in the absence of the Z fighters.
I was a person that watched DBZ before Dragon Ball. I remember I was willing to watch the whole series of DB just for the hell of it, and I actually learned to appreciate Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and every other earthling in the show, because of what impact they had back then. I also enjoyed the fact that Dragon Ball was more martial arts orientated. I am currently watching DBGT and I must admit it isn't as bad as everyone make it seems. Great Video!
Thanks for the support for my boi man. Loved him from the og dragonball and was hurt when they made him a joke in Z. Speaking of underraited i see you have a video on tien. I know where im going afyer this.
It's sad, he was my favorite character in DB and early Z. I remember when he came back with the face scars before the tournament. I was freaking excited! I hope to see more of him in the future.
I wish he got more love. I had thought before about ways to buff him up in the story and I realized how cool it would’ve been if he’d gotten the spirit bomb when training on King Kai’s world with the added ability to control it like his spirit ball. It’s a small idea but I wish something like that would’ve been done.
I get why many characters are overshadowed by Goku's influence but I know that they deserve better, Yamcha especially. He is a great human fighter just like Tien & Krillin & it hurts to still know that they get more love than him. . It's the fanbase that "bases" who should be in the spotlight & not too much by the creators themselves, which is why I'll never be a fan of Dragonball regardless how popular it is...
@@DragoonCenten I too see that to a certain extent, I wouldn't say it outright deserved it though since people still like SSJ4 so much, myself included

@@dominiquerobinson8888 Or maybe it's because some of you believe he doesn't deserve it? He'll never get any screentime if we keep bullying him into obscenity, and I know that many would still be ok with that by the next decade over...
The problem with characters like Yamcha in the newest Dragon Ball is that there is no room for anyone besides the strongest...Theres no scenes of clandestine operations, gathering information on the enemy...finding their secret hideout, find the cure for the heart virus, hide the dragon balls etc etc....This is perfect stuff for the weaker characters like Krillin and Yamcha to carry out and show off their skills...But the new Dragon Ball is basically just about power and who has it, who has the most, who can transform...There's no real nuanced character growth or portrayal...
For me, it’s not that he is a joke but that he became a joke, stayed a joke and then faded into obscurity as a side character. He’s never been a coward, just weak
Thats my GOAT, i will never lose hope that the wolf someday will shine like it did in OG DB, he inspires me to stay optimistic and keep training despite how much rocks life throws me, im just him.
The problem with Yamcha is that he was Worf-effected and ultimately reduced to just that. Starting with the original World Martial Arts Tournament, Toriyama used him to show how strong Goku's final opponent would be, first Jackie Chun, then Tien. In the third tournament, he may not have fought Junior, but he was still used to show how powerful Kami was since no one had ever seen Kami fight, and thereby demonstrate how powerful Kami and Picollo and by extension Goku were compared to everyone else. His death at the hands of the Saibaman continued that trend, which culminated in his being impaled by Dr. Gero to demonstrate how dangerous the androids were. After Gero, Vegeta became the new Worf-effect character given how close in power he was to Goku once they were both super saiyan. He has shared that role with Gohan since the start of the Buu Saga, with Resurrection F being the worst offender in treating Gohan exactly how Yamcha used to be treated. But both characters still have moments of triumph or greatness that Yamcha was never allowed to have in Z. With his role as the guy who gets beat to establish the strength of the new enemy taken by 2 saiyans, Toriyama had nothing else for Yamcha to do, and he was written out.
I liked the dragon ball super reference because Yamcha did actually accomplish something (he got on home). The fact that it resembled his greatest failure is what makes it hilarious, kind of like the guy who invented the ice cream cone.
Random trivia: In Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World, Yamcha is insanely overpowered. His basic punch string effortlessly goes through EVERY OTHER MOVE IN THE GAME, including ki blasts lol.
Dude Yamacha was actually really bad ass before they nerfed him. He had so much potential to be one of the strongest. If you remember he was the only one who learned all the different techniques. Wolf fang fist, spirit ball attack, and the Kamehameha wave and he's 100% human. Not too mention all the original dragon ball adventures.
The fact that Yamcha didn't just fuckin die when he turned on 300x gravity should put some respect on his name, back in the day Goku nearly died training at 100x gravity.
Yamcha would be the strongest character in a lot of other anime’s . Him being able to do wolf fang fist and kamahahmaha and fly are feats on their own .
Yamcha is one of those characters that's great on paper, but not that great in practice. He may have potential, and be powerful, but if he never existed I wouldn't care.
If Yamcha trained before the Tournament, and Toriyama makes him adding a werewolf form, sparring with Goku with the time left, and joined the TOP, Caulifla would be a fine opponent for him, And her being Yamcha's past obstacles which are women and Saiyans, that would be an impactful fight. And I would imagine Yamcha being the Sniper with his Spirit Ball, making the statement in Fighterz from Frieza about Yamcha's power level affecting the waves real lol
Yamcha is considered a joke because he doesn't have a single canon win against a named opponent without an asterisk. He beat Goku in their first fight... because Goku was hungry. He beat the invisible man... with Roshi's help. He then beat... no one else ever.
Yamcha was always my favorite character. i read once a fan made manga that has him learn the full wolf fang fist from the master who taught him the first part of it. and he takes on goku at the end, and goku acknowledges how far and strong he has gotten. all pre super stuff.
Are you talking about DBZ Elsewhere by Aremke/RMK, because I love that fan-manga as well. Unfortunately it hasn't had an update for 4 years, but it's still a good read.
I'll never forget the fact that Recoome manhandled Vegeta on Namek, just to get beat by Yamcha on King Kai's planet, which means that for the briefest moment in Dragonball history, Yamcha was actually stronger than Vegeta, something that very few characters can claim on their list of accomplishments.
When I was young and didn’t know much about dragon ball I was playing one of the games with my friends (can’t remember which one) but he selected vegeta and me not knowing any better grabbed yamcha as my fighter because I thought he looked tough lmao. Needless to say I was always the better gamer and I beat the ever living crap out of my friend using yamcha and all my friends were laughing there asses off like damn yamcha finally did it and then about 10 years ago when I was about 18-19 and moved out of my parents house I started watching dragon ball z and that hilarious memory came back to me when I realized just how much they made yamcha a wimp in the show lol. Fantastic good times. I was still friends with the guy who I played that game with when I was young and called him and told him I now understand yamcha and I’ve never heard one man laugh so hard in my whole life. Good memoriez
Honestly, I partially blame TFS for the fan consensus/misconception of Yamcha being pathetic, Krillin being a coward, and Piccolo being a dad to Gohan.
a couple of MUCH more likely reason for Yamcha being the butt of the joke are either that the writers just didn't like Yamcha anymore, they knew they had too many characters so killing off him and Chou Tzu so they didn't have to write story for them, or because vegeta was planned in advance so they had to show just how much stronger vegeta was than Yamcha to actually show him off and how he was actually a rival for goku and that yamcha just wasn't anymore
Yamcha was always one of my favorite characters in OG Dragon Ball. DBZ ruined him, but in the original, he was nothing short of badass. Also, his Wolf Fang Fist technique looked cool as hell. Of course, that was back when DB fights were about martial arts, and not just about flashy lights and incomprehensible numbers.

I believe Yamcha's direspect(disrespect) stems from the first person to toss him aside. His creator, Toriyama.😅
Yamcha should get his own special/ movie at this point.

@@vampdeluxe77 In the NmcoBandai Verse He was in the Tournament of time Event could of got Married use shenron to make himself Immortal
Yea
You just made me picture all four of them hitting Jiren with Kamehamehas at the same time; it's a wonderful image.
As of Super, Yamcha’s the only character with a morally valid claim for a wish for Immortality on the dragon balls. He’s found a cute alien babe, but she ages very slowly and only wants to marry in 100 years. That’s a no brainer imo.
wait when is this?
@@dane1382: They’re talking about Heroes, where Yamcha meets an alien female named Vidro, whom he saved from Hit (anime) or Meta Cooler (manga) and she became smitten with him to the point of marriage.
Shortly after Demigra is destroyed, Vidro tells Yamcha that their wedding will be in 1200 years (The Glass Tribe’s age of consent). So it’s ultimately impractical.
Watching OG after only being familiar with Z was so cool seeing “random background characters” have full fleshed out stories. Watching it from og to z it’s heart breaking seeing the former top guys (tien, yamacha, yajirobe, korin, kami) get completely tossed to the side
yeah

Love seeing Yamcha get excited in fighting again when he trains in the other world..
It's not his fault that he's up against literal GODS in his universe :(
Yamcha is a great Baseball player and nobody can take that away from him.
Yamcha (true destroyer of universe 7), Tien (his angel attendee), and chiaotzu (the true surpreme kai). Beerus is Yamcha's Monaka.
Another original character thrown to wayside in favor insane transformations.
I honestly would prefer a rebeoot where the power gaps aren't anywhere near as wide, the cell and freeza sagas overlap massively; and it is gohan, not Goku, that becomes the first super saiyan against freeza, in place of him doing it vs cell
And there's only ever one super saiyan, Gohan. That's it. no others.
And he goes super saiyan when goku dies at the hands of freeza, who is invading earth to use the dragon balls.
Also, on top of all that, the DB's are nerfed into the ground and can't resurrect people
This setting would raise the stakes on each individual fight, would make it so that while the likes of Tien and Yamcha would still get slammed by nappa and vegeta, they would at least stand a chance.
But yeah, this would mean that human characters, along with the likes of the Ginyu force and lesser androids, would never become completely irrelevant.

The Dragonballs would also be nerfed, and unable to resurrect people - that power just takes away the impact of any deaths of characters.
If we're going to criticise Disney for "fake killing" characters so much (which we all do) then why do we do the same thing with dragonballs? Consequences for failure give meaning to the triumphs.
This hypothetical that i'm suggesting is a 100% reboot - completely new story, completely new everything. Total restart.

To be fair the other world is the perfect place for people like yamcha to shine.
You put more thought into power scaling than the writers themselves...
Writers care about good story not power scaling .
@@finnmarr-heenan2397 I mean.....You're talking about dragon ball here....idk if you should say that Akira is caring about the Buu saga story quality xD

I still remember his legendary scene was such a shocking to younger me that time. It is frustrating that most of other people only remember aand making fun of that scene rather than see who is Yamcha other than that scene.
Nice video, it’s good to see Yamcha given proper credit and respect.

What disappoints me is the focus on the Saiyans only because God Ki could've been such a good vehicle to return the humans to the fold. Anyone can use it no matter the species and they could've been a true team in the ToP with them all using God Ki and ascending.
Very true the humans, the other universe fighters, the other world fighters not to mention the other planets in each universe being explored would be nice to see.

Tien and yamcha was soo much wasted potential just because they wanted krillin to be Goku's best friend
We need more wholesome character redemptions like this. One example can be that Goku is a good dad or even about Hercule, who is also seen as a joke character, but he legit won the world martial arts tournament in the absence of the Z fighters.
DBS should do my boy yamcha some justice and give him some cool training or special ability

I am actively a fan of Yamcha xD. I sincerely appreciate this video
I wish he got more love. I had thought before about ways to buff him up in the story and I realized how cool it would’ve been if he’d gotten the spirit bomb when training on King Kai’s world with the added ability to control it like his spirit ball. It’s a small idea but I wish something like that would’ve been done.
Yamcha got it so hard his body broke the 4th wall literally and lived. What fictional character can do that.
I get why many characters are overshadowed by Goku's influence but I know that they deserve better, Yamcha especially. He is a great human fighter just like Tien & Krillin & it hurts to still know that they get more love than him.

It's the fanbase that "bases" who should be in the spotlight & not too much by the creators themselves, which is why I'll never be a fan of Dragonball regardless how popular it is...
Also the fanbase is the main reason why GT's non-canon, because if it wasn't then Toriyama wouldn't have said anything.
GT was also trash, so I don't see a problem.
@@DragoonCenten I too see that to a certain extent, I wouldn't say it outright deserved it though since people still like SSJ4 so much, myself included

Tien is the most underrated character in the DB universe
Yamcha and other dragon ball side characters need a spin off series to show how awesome they really are!
I love how Yamcha recently beat Moro’s strongest goons.
Yamcha got a power level in the millions by the buu saga and he's like the 3rd strongest human ever.
I liked the dragon ball super reference because Yamcha did actually accomplish something (he got on home). The fact that it resembled his greatest failure is what makes it hilarious, kind of like the guy who invented the ice cream cone.
Random trivia:
In Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World, Yamcha is insanely overpowered.
His basic punch string effortlessly goes through EVERY OTHER MOVE IN THE GAME, including ki blasts lol.
Yamcha needs his own exclusive power boost.. Gets a sword say a sword of destruction.. And he gets a power boost.. Just something
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the power up, Sir! You're a Legend!
Yamcha deserves a werewolf-like transformation/power up.
Stone Cold w/Can of whoop ass = God tier😅 🍻
Yamcha would be the strongest character in a lot of other anime’s . Him being able to do wolf fang fist and kamahahmaha and fly are feats on their own .
Yamcha , Tien , Android 17 & Android 16 are my favorite dragonball characters
They turned yamcha into Kenny from south park😭🤣
This is all valid 👏🏾
I remembered how cool Yamcha was when he appeared in the Moro Arc
Ty!!!
Yamcha is one of those characters that's great on paper, but not that great in practice. He may have potential, and be powerful, but if he never existed I wouldn't care.
Yamcha as well as Killin are two of my favorites characters ever in the series. Can't wait to play with them in Sparking Zero.
Super hadn't written Yamcha well enough at all to have earned a moment like that for gags.
A happy yamcha fan here for life!
"I brought towels"
I'm glad you telling the truth about my boy Yamcha
a couple of MUCH more likely reason for Yamcha being the butt of the joke are either that the writers just didn't like Yamcha anymore, they knew they had too many characters so killing off him and Chou Tzu so they didn't have to write story for them, or because vegeta was planned in advance so they had to show just how much stronger vegeta was than Yamcha to actually show him off and how he was actually a rival for goku and that yamcha just wasn't anymore
I watched Dragonball, Z and Super and just always thought Yamcha thought fighting was more a means to an end not a passion.
Hes one of the best fighters in the video game. That wolf fang fist combo is superb
Yamcha was always one of my favorite characters in OG Dragon Ball. DBZ ruined him, but in the original, he was nothing short of badass. Also, his Wolf Fang Fist technique looked cool as hell. Of course, that was back when DB fights were about martial arts, and not just about flashy lights and incomprehensible numbers.
he got some decent shine in the moro arc of super in the manga hopefully they can get humans some buffs one day to be on a more respectable level
