Exactly the type of video I was looking for. I have 55g metal drums of asphalt sealant and have been pondering ways to extract without having to use a trash pump. Was thinking your set up but one change would be to add a 1/4 inch port compressor shut off valve to the bung hole. I carry my pancake compressor in my trailer. The other bung hole would be a hose. Simply turn compressor on l, open valve, sealant flows!

I do a similar thing with 5 gallon buckets..buckets and barrels can hold more pressure than you think. 30 psi will empty heavy oil from a bucket pretty quick. Does it look unsafe? Hell yeah but I’ve never blown the lid off and rarely spill a drop.
I drill out the cap on a 5 gallon bucket and use 5/8 heater hose to transfer liquids…then drill a small hole and use the compressor to expand the bucket. Replacing hydraulic/oil in heavy equipment.

How long those tire valves going to hold against gasoline? 5 min? Then disintegrate in to the drum and end up in the gas tank?

Jet fuel, aka kerosene, 6 years now. It isn't like the fuel ever touches the valve anyway, I have different caps for actual storage

How long does it take to empty a 55 gallon drum using your Makita compressor as the air source?

15-20 minutes, faster than a rotary had pump, depending on the height of the filler neck

I’m debating doing a set up like this for watering my plants out the back of my truck so you think it will have enough pressure. To be able to come out of a garden hose nozzle.

If you're trying to spray water in a jet this probably isn't the right thing. The barrels can't take too much pressure, I try to not exceed 6 psi normally, otherwise the ends bulge out and I don't want to rupture them

I've actually deformed the ends of metal drums by putting more than 10 psi in them, it's best to use a good pressure gauge and not let the ends bulge.

    • @rowerwet

I wouldn't go over 25 psi. I normally see about 7 psi on the pump readout

There are ratings on the barrel usually, lookup the codes, should be something like 1H1/Y1.8/120/09 cast into the barrel. One of those numbers is the burst rating in kpa and I would just stay well below it.

The pickup tube needs to be at the bottom of the fluid, if you keep it down, it will work
