one thing younger people won't understand until they have done this for years is how much vibration causes your soreness..... your arms neck and back is almost 100% entirely from the string trimmers....an elastic shoulder sling will remove alot of this stress on these areas of your body. great way to get tennis elbow & carpal tunnel at the same time.
darwins grip saves on alot of this soreness pain as well and makes it easier to reach under and around pine trees and bushes

I’m at 28k a month solo, but it’s too stressful. 68 yards over three days was too much in the summer, I ran myself down. I’m at 101 over 5.5 days and it’s just a lot along with running the channel.
Ironically, I grew up in Longwood where this is filmed. I went to lake Brantley high school, then UCF, then I worked or the Orlando Magic for a decade.
Ricky, I miss it there, I’m in Jacksonville now. Glad to see you holding it down, love that area you live in.

20 yards a day is my limit period solo and that's make up days staying current as i can. i don't do more than 15 on a regular but i am geared for larger noncity lots and i take an hour lunch at the hottest part of the day. you need a helper, even if it's just part time at the end of your day with a high schooler looking to make some cash for 2-3 hours as long as they can meet you on site or a college student with just a morning or afternoon free 1-3 days a week there is enough of them just looking for grocery money...same

@jboog7848 look at my short called “Monday funday”. I started in 2018 with 30 accounts, now I have 102 and I’m solo. I’m at $28,400 a month from maintenance, so I’m here to tell you you’re gonna crush that 100k….IF you want to.
I will say, it’s become insanely stressful for me because I have to keep a strict schedule. Monday-Wednesday I have 68 accounts, 21 of them are small beach yards but it’s still a lot. I haven’t been able to find a balance, and this last summer was brutal. However, it was still better than dealing with guys expecting $25 an hour to use a weedeater with a bad attitude.
Also, you can charge more because you’re the owner doing the work and you care.
Hmu whenever man, I’m always around to talk.

Awesome video I learn something every time I watch one. I own a small yard business in far Northern California and half my biz is spring and fall cleanups. Bought a used 6x10 dump bed trailer which saves so much time and labor. A tip I got from another landscaper is using tarps to load the leaves instead of wheelbarrows. I use 8x10 tarps and a good quality leaf rake, wind row the leaves lay the Tara out and rake the leaves onto the tarp tie one end and drag onto the trailer saves so much time and is much quicker this way. On average we haul 1,000 yards a year to green waste site. Keep up the good work Mack I love your videos

Awesome setup. As far as the Darwin Grip I fell for the hype and bought two for my trimmers. Tried to make myself like them for a couple of months. Hated the crap out of them from the beginning to the end, The screws stripped on the mounting brackets on both trying to keep them from slipping around on the shaft. They limit your reach in certain situations going under things to trim . no longer can you reach over in ditches with one hand because of the extra weight. Gave them to friend who had back problems. within a week are so he took them off and gave them back. now just taking up space in my shed

People, spend a little more on a good trailer. This guys trailer is rated to carry up to 2000 pounds. He is right at 2000 with his set up. He is maxed out day in and day out. Very unsafe with all the bumps in the road he is hitting on the road (greatly amplifying weight impact to that poor trailer). Just run a tandem 3.5 trailer.

    • @mack_landscaping412
      @mack_landscaping412  Před 5 měsíci +15

He’s working on upgrading to an enclosed trailer…This is working for him and we all start somewhere…He knows the ratings/specs of his trailer and has a very tight route…It’s not like he’s speeding on the highway, he’s got a 1.5 mile service area and it’s all flat … thanks for your comment my friend 💯🫡

    • @rickyrodriguez6476
      @rickyrodriguez6476 Před 5 měsíci +8

The idea is to get a bigger and more solid trailer. This is what I got before my other truck broke down. My other truck probably couldn't have handled a better trailer lol. The axle on this trailer is rated at 3500 pounds and like Mack said my radius is 1-5 radius. I also drive carefully. If I was over on weight, it's not by much. Both mowers are less than 1000 pounds. These trailers are very commonly used out here for this stuff and people beat the snot out of them. I appreciate the input🙏

Any of y’all ever use or seen a Shindaiwa T27 weed eater?
I own a 60” Great Dane stand on mower and a Bobcat 52” ZTR hydro and I’m still gonna look for a high quality 36” Stand on mower.
I’ve used John Deere 36-48” stand on and they are fantastic as are their sit down mowers especially with the slope safety features.
They cut wet tall grass real fine unlike many of the other mowers that will leave long strands of grass .
I prefer to mulch up the grass as it’s super beneficial to the turf .
I like the sharpener , cool beans .
I use the Redmax Blowers and Stihl arborist chainsaw & pole pruner and pole hedgers. This past year I picked up a Stihl hand trimmer that was made in Deutschland & ah man it cuts real fine on no woods which i always love to shape and maintain.
I pull a heavy 20’ landscaping trailer and I’m gonna see about the rack system that y’all’s are promoting.
I also secure my weed eaters and pole saw with a Kyrptonite bike lock as they have a warranty against theft .
Granted they are for bicycles lol .
Driving an 08 Duramax and theirs still some other upgrades that I plan on doing like a 62 gallon tank and maybe another truck for that ramp system to run a 3 man crew for residential maintenance only .
    Keep on keeping y’all.

The trick is NETWORKING AND SUBCONTRACTING! On the "we" its a habit to include my wife who helps in the background a little. This year she is taking on more. I've done most of it. Labor, scheduling, billing, emails and social media. She doesn't work in the field with me, maybe a few times a year. My landscape jobs I hire for the day. When we say solo it's I don't have any full-time employees. I don't even have part-time employees. I am currently trying to hire people to get myself out of the truck.

You have 32 residential properties in monthly maintenance and are grossing 200k?

@@rickyrodriguez6476 only 32 lawns?? You're pricing must be astounding 🤣 So day labor is your ticket. Because I've been literally solo, and coming nowhere near that number. I'm definitely looking into bringing on one part timer this year.
It's cool that you consider your wife so much. Plenty of married dudes are out there on youtube saying "I," "my" and "me" like they're all by themselves 🤷‍♂️

@grassmasher22 again, I do a tooooooonnnn of subcontracting. I network with a lot of companies around me. I have one company that does most of my tree work and the other sod prep, ground leveling, landscape, and hardscapes. I work hard to take care of everything outdoors for my clients and other people. I also do quite a bit of irrigation. I also use lead generating platforms to help sell the high ticket items.

He is solo…A lot of people say “we” naturally because they’re explaining how or why they do something in the business and not really describing themselves…1st time on camera too so it probably didn’t occur to him as it was happening … I think he actually did explain why he was saying “we” instead of “I” but it didn’t make the video

We're a family owned business. I bring my wife and kids out a few times a year to show them a thing or two. My wife is going on second year with me helping me with my website and socials. The idea is to build up a team this year. I'm getting the practice in now.

I am curious what his profit margin/net profit? I see the gross income thrown about often. He has a 60k truck that he is financing.I'm thinking $1000 a month payments. He may be financing the mowers as well. Another $500 a month. How much advertising advertising and marketing is he doing? The profit margin for lawn care companies range from 5% to 20%. If he is solo I am guessing it is on the higher end, but the wild card is he is financing everything. Let's say it is 10% profit margin. He is only making $20,000 a year. I think you can make that at Mcdonalds.

Truck and mowers are financed. My profit margins are right at 40%.

With the right pricing, marketing, advertisements, and networking you can be very profitable. The last several years, I've been in the 50-55 percentile by design. I am getting to a place where I want to hire, which will then bring down a bit more. But if I continue what I am doing my profit margins will remain high. It's all about being a good salesman and setting hard boundaries. It's hard for sure. BUT it's not as hard as people make it seem.

5:00 i heard DAT, echo is the poor mans Stihl, just sayin...not a clap back attack, Good tools ain't cheap, and great tools are too damn expensive, there is a reason why stuff is priced CHEAP. the old single line .50mil trimmer bought in 1984 still runs because it's a Stihl 100+ trees on 2.5 acres a week.
what you pay for today is speed not reliability, the 1980's hustle lead to disposable everything...even women are treated like cars now.

From what I hear the grass slows down in the winter and they move to biweekly or even triweekly (i dunno if that’s a word or not😂) but they do work year round
