Gulf Air's Falcon Gold! Business Class Boeing 787-9 Bangkok to London. BKK - SIN - BAH - LHR.

  • I paid £1,084 to fly on a one way ticket on Gulf Air’s Falcon Gold (Business Class) from Bangkok to London. It was originally booked as Bangkok to Bahrain (Flight No GF153) and Bahrain to London (Flight No GF007). However, 2 months after booking the airline changed the route and replaced Flight No GF153 with GF166 which now meant we will be going from Bangkok to Singapore before heading onwards to Bahrain.
    The Aircraft for both legs is a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The cabin uses Apex Suites which are large! Seats are 22” wide and really long! The IFE is also 22” - one of the largest in Business Class across the industry!
    Gul Air failed on dining! This is surprising especially as they are trying to be innovative on the F&B by introducing SkyChefs. However, they have some operational issues to get right first. The service could be better and the entertainment could offer a few more western options. On the positive side, they give pyjamas! Woo hoo! They also provide a decent amenity kit, a bottle of water and lets not forget a fantastic seat. However, there is a slight dip at the end of the seat but not many people will notice, the ones that do might find it a bit annoying - and there is a gap between the end of the bed and the pulled down ottoman - again this will only annoy you if you notice it.

    We absolutely love the Gulf Air Business Class product. We fly with them regularly between Frankfurt and Manila because they offer a very competitive product at a very competitive price. The tickets are usually about two thousand dollars cheaper than those of Qatar, and we also prefer them over Emirates. From Frankfurt to Bahrain, Gulf Air uses the A321neo, and the seats are much nicer than what you get on the Emirates 777. From Bahrain to Manila, Gulf Air flies the Dreamliner with the Apex Suite business seats, which, from my point of view, are among the best seats in the sky. Yes, the meal and drink selection is better on Qatar or Emirates, but that doesn't justify the price difference. So far, we haven't received a bad meal on Gulf Air.

      Hey and thanks for sharing! Looking back at this, I think I just had a one-off bad experience which was probably largely attributed to them not having received my meal request. I agree they are very well priced and I think I will try them again and I am sure it will be better 😀 There are a few areas for improvement but then usually this the case with everything and everyone. There will always be people who have a great service and those that don’t and I think they are trying to get better 😀

      Harsh review. I just had an amazing experience Manila to Istanbul return via Bahrain. Apex business class window suite, designed for first class but Gulf don't have 1st. So it's business. So special, I'll only fly Gulf if I can between Asia and Europe.

      @@lomtaisong11 I agree that the hard product is good, just disappointed with them not getting the meal right which is vital for such a long journey. I am sure if the y got the meal right then the experience would be much better! I w I’ll try them again and give them the be be fit of doubt and second chance. I just do honest reviews based on my experience and sometimes things go wrong which happened on this occasion. I too have experienced amazing flights with other airlines and have seen reviews or comments by others and am equally shocked but it is their experience.

      @@lomtaisong11 I’m always looking forward to flying and hope for a positive experience and I would love to share an amazing review like my reviews of Eva Air, Cathay Pacific, Finnair and so on but if there is room for improvement then it is vital the airline receives feedback. I truly wish my experience was better so I could give more praise but I am sure next time it will be better 🙏

    Looks like a lovely airline shown. I think the staff were slightly lacking in customer service when you are paying a high price. The second meal looked vegan to me, shame you didn’t try it dies to your experience before. Overall I think it was ok. Disappointing you didn’t get your size in the pyjamas.

      Ahh yes, the second dish may have been vegan and thank you for pointing it out. Unfortunately, as I can only see 1% I couldn't tell and was afraid based on the previous dish experience. So maybe I will give them another chance and hopefully it will be better :)

    Poor service from gulf, getting food right is the basics and they should have no problem in getting this correct. And 30 minutes to make the bed - were they building it?!

      I agree! Perhaps they were having a late meeting - after all the previous flight was delayed and the boarding on this flight was frantic. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but I still think this was a bit too long. If you compare it to Qatar and Emirates their main rivals, then this is unlikely to have been the same.

    Very poor service from gulf not what you would expect from an airline that prides itself on service! I’m sure the cabin crew did a good job but with the few problems you had they could of went above and beyond and helped a little more……your food order sounded like a communication problem as the guy didn’t know you ordered a vegan meal…which you pre ordered. Also making you wait until everyone else boards is totally unacceptable…..in my opinion you should of been well cared for! Video well presented and edited you did a great job 👍🏻 looking forward to your next video 👍🏻

    its not rocket science is it? why cant they get everything right, its a lot of money it should be perfect. Its not just Gulf Air ive had poor service with Emirates, Turkish, Delta, Oman Air ( the worst) all business class, the best .....Sri lankan air, old planes lovely service.

      Hi and thank you for your comment! I can understand about Emirates - they are hit and miss! I haven't flown Turkish or Oman yet but definitely will soon so thanks for the heads up! I also want to fly Sri Lankan Air too - looks nice! I have a couple of BA flights coming up - nothing special! Then I have a couple of Qatar Business class which I think are amazing and a first class in Singapore Airlines (Suite)! Can't wait! Have you flown Qatar? If yes, what did you think of them?

    my score 2, 0,1 Now for you being a vegan which is strange in itself I think it is unfair you expect an airline to have a variety of vegan choices, The majority of passengers are regular food eater's and majority rules. You are being handicapped I understand you being upset . You definitely should have been given the "Service Plus" due to your disability. I never heard of this airline but just from your flight over all rating from me out of 5 stars would be 1.5 stars.

      Yes I know the airline wants to improve and their competitors are far better overall. With the vegan thing, it wasn’t the issue about choice - they had a vegan option available which I selected but was served a non-vegan dish. Lucky I was not allergic to anything. But hey it’s water under the bridge and I hope the airline uses the feedback to improve. You can’t exactly get such a long haul business class flight for under $1,500!
