Three Reasons Not To Buy One | Triumph Speed 400 FAQ #3

- Three reasons not to get the Speed 400. First, if you're distracted by the 40bhp on the spec sheet, the 160+kmph top speed and think this will make a tourer, rethink this. The Triumph feels strained at higher revs and is not an extremely refined engine. Plus it's small, making touring in terms of space for pillions and luggage and at higher speeds, if you're a sporty rider, both more challenging than it should have been. Second, as an extension, if you're an experienced rider, the simplicity of the power delivery not only can make the Triumph feel slightly bland, we think it'll also struggle to keep you entertained a year and a bit later. Third, if you think road presence is important and are looking for a big bike feel, the Triumph is too light in feel and too small in size to offer you that. It could easily pass off as a 250cc motorcycle, in fact.

1. compact design - love it
2. linear power delivery - want it
3. road presence - clean minimalist design, hell yeah
There are 477 of us like minded people. I feel included and I love it.
These are the exact three reasons why I want
to buy this bike 😅
haha True Same. These guys are jumping over so called "characteristics" and "high revving" drama... where after test ridden this beauty, I've felt enough road presence, bike feels bigger in person. High amount of torque available from very low RPM. Torqiest engine than ktm's.
if they want high revving go for KTM's... it's childish to compare ktm's to this and call this characterless and boring.
Agreed. There is a spectrum of buyers out there. We should appreciate the fact that there is an option for people like me who think Classic is too Classic and KTMs are too sporty.
@@samBobo208 depends which bike you currently have. If you have a pulsar 150 or similar category bike and want to upgrade, Speed400 will feel awesome. If you already have let's say duke 200 or CBR250 or Gixxer SF or any ~25 bhp bike then speed400 won't feel like a proper upgrade even though 40bhp is a solid number for a single cyl bike.
@@RRP1992 I'd say if you own cbr250 don't even thinking about taking speed/scrambler. 250 is such gem of a bike.
Coming to duke 200 or gixxer I think you will feel the difference in tourq for sure. If you own Dominar or current duke 390 also there is no point comparing to this.
I'd say it's perfect for newbies and people who ride 200 250 cc bikes currently.
@@Jkay400x yup..
This does attract a lot of attention on roads because of how beautiful it looks
Seriously! I saw a speed 400 zoom past me with that bassy thump and that gorgeous carnival red. My goodness it was amazing to see how well this bike is done. My N250 is relatively new and she ticks all the boxes for me right now but if I feel like upgrading I’ll prolly go with speed 400
Actually, it does look like Ronin when one sees it from the front side
Nobody cares. Only those who consider Triumph as an aspirational bike do. The majority of people probably look more at a lower cc faired motorcycles especially if the rider is wearing a jacket and gloves.
@@NikhilKumarM to be fair they dont look at those fancy faired bikes with amusement most of them look at a potential amateur rider (chapri)
atleast thats what people around me said about faired bike
it just have a bad reputation
Nahh...just looks like a modified Ronin. I was disappointed when i 1st saw the speed400 and felt triumph had lowered their standards for money.
No real negatives. Got it.
Yeah. Since you got it you can't do anything just live with it 😂😂
@@imthe_catgodTrue. All buyers will repent just months into it especially with excellent line up we are having for 2024
Vibrations above 100 kmph
boring rider. got it
Man they made such a refined engine that shumi is complaining about being too refined 😂
This is exactly what we call nitpicking, ladies and gentlemen😅
😊😊😊
For him dike 390 is only best 😂
😂@@crankitup6801
That shows how good of a bike it really is.
When you got no real negatives. You make them up 🤣🤣🤣
I was cruising at 120 through the 300km Delhi-Nainital highway with luggage, with still no loss of pulling power. And there were so many eyes on the bike, with 3-4 people stopping and asking me about it ( including RE Hunter and KTM Adv 390 owners )
It's not about the power, its about the size. A smaller bike will have less space to accommodate a pillion plus all the luggage when compared it to a larger bike.
120 kmph ..? At what RPM dude ? …there is something called low end torque ..!
Did you not understand the point? This bike does not like HIGH revvs, not high speed. Even my MT 15 can go at 120 since it is fine at high revs.
The point is you are not actually getting that 160 or 140 speed without significant vibrations (and perhaps reduced engine life). So, one should consider if it is better than getting a 250cc which can go to 120 with just a little more effort and costs less
I've done a similar thing, cruised at 120 through an 80 kilometers patch of highway road last week and then back. Very little vibrations, insane public recognition (been stopped multiple times by people asking about the bike) and you can dash through cars pretty fast. Shumi is clearly biased towards the company and it shows.
My biker gang had all REs but I was the one turning the most heads.
Indian road r not ment for 140/160 … I would say 100-120 will suffice but ur engine should be stress free running at rpm lower than 3200 to give u that sublime feel …if it’s ur first bike u have a made decent choice but u will outgrow it in 1 year if u want to enjoy biking in long term ..happy riding 😊
I’m an experienced rider riding a big Kawasaki with 61 HP, weighing 230+ Kgs.. But I find this Baby Triumph more exciting and entertaining for both city and highway rides..
Its adequate power, tractability, linear power delivery and light weight (resulting in agility) , smooth and refined engine have made it so enjoyable that I don’t miss my big bike !
It's a nice city bike.
Wow
@@motorinc I’ve ridden 1000 kms and around 70% of these are on Highways !
Motorinc hates triumph for personal reasons.😂
@@motorincbro your biased shit is already backfiring in the comments section. because triumph did not invite you or blacklisted you, for the right reasons you overly criticize their bikes. motorinc is the most biased channel ever and will not succeed in this way. you will never be the autocar you wanna be with this attitude. people wont consider your opinions and youll develop this image of a joker that you already are.

If you like it and others don’t you get to own your favorite bike while knowing that its unique and rare, why bother what others say unless you have an inferiority complex and deep down you aren’t happy with the bike😏
Great choice brother
Have purchased this for three reasons.
1) Primarily City drives: Would rarely use it for touring. Love the compact nature of the bike.
2) Love the simplicity it offers as I don't want to impress anyone at my current age.
3) Prefer not to get too much attention as there are plenty of idiots on the road who want to race unnecessarily looking at big bikes. Not a big fan when it comes to that kind of attention.
Mileage?

Same 3 reasons brthr ...
Mlg...below 30....
Maybe we are at the same reason and age friend. 😂
The Duke is even more compact which you say it's best for touring.. pretty ironic.
Irony 😂
Touring needs constant high end speed with absolute torque. Triumph doesnt like high revs, its capable but vibration is immense.
@@skrllexrichard6081 who said touring needs high end speeds ? It's not a race track, where you have to revv it out every gear and be on the top speed mark all the time.. touring needs to be enjoyed with cruising speeds..and consistency.
@@skrllexrichard6081 apka touring ka tarika thoda casual hai😂
With such bad roads in India, how can you maintain high end speed😅😅
For urban use it's one of the good bikes out there
It’s astonishing to hear that #2 where a 400cc 40bhp motorcycle will be boring just after a year. I whole heartily disagree with you.
I own a speed 400 & I think I get what shumi is saying here. It’s not just about power but how a bike makes you feel. This bike feels very stable and not exciting . Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing bike but yeah that feeling of not scaring you or not exciting enough is there
@@vishalshokeen7264what the hell lol, I'm having classic 500 2018 and I cannot go over 90, without the fear of death. Seriously, how is it fun? Ofcourse my bike is not made for that but desiring refinement is not boring. Superbikes crosses 100 in 2 seconds.
His point is simple. With that much power, its not the fastest nor the torquest, RE GT650 takes the city and its cafe looks, there are bulkier bikes available with fatter tires who are into those looks. Scrambler 400 is just stuck in the middle, people buying it are enthusiasts and motorheads who have better reasons to buy it rather than just looks and spec sheet.
@@skrllexrichard6081the RE twins are possibly the slowest 650 twins out there. Also the Continental 650 doesn't have a great riding posture for touring.
@@arcaneglimmer RE twins are cafe racers, therefore a city bike, not even highway. Also they can't have plain upright seating position coz then they'll lose the sporty cafe aesthetic to it. BY NO MEANS THEY'RE MADE FOR LONG RIDES, FORGET TOURING. 😄
It’s perfect machine available in India within this budget for city ride and touring.
Riding bikes from 15+ years.
I understand the first and last points, the second one on charector is very personal. Ride it under 4000 and its very easy going, perfect for that lazy cruise around backroads. Beyond 6000 there is an instant surge of power all the way up to redline. Its a bike that can do both and that to me is a plus point. Although when it comes to charector I feel like they could have improved the exhaust note. I hear more of the engine that the exhaust at the top end.
Bro I say the exact same, dual nature.
In lower rpms you can simply cruise comfortably in the cities, and you pull throttle to overtake the bike pulls.
And when you want tp have fun, go beyond 5k rpm and it just keeps pulling with that exhaust grunt makes it satisfying.
Its gonna be my first bike and I believe that its good to have this characted of motorcycle
Are you sure Shumi dada ?
These are the exact reasons why people are buying this beauty …
This is the best bike ever launched in India, just flawless.
Its silly that people here want a “big bike feel” while when it comes to riding pleasure/skillful riding its always better to have a light weight compact package, if splendor came with a nice look and character that motor would be my next bike 😍
The very reason why Bullet feels like bullet, glides on the road despide indulations, minimal jerks on the speed breaker, etc. Splendor can only give you agility and reaction time when a cow comes in front. Suspension can never be furthur improved on a lightweight bike. Broader bikes have better stability due to larger center of gravity.
Buy a truck then😁😁
I don't own one, but damn I saw one pass by me when I was riding my ns200, It looked gorgeous and had a superior road presense. The paint quality is also premium.
Too light? R u kidding?
As an interceptor 650 owner ill say speed 400 is really very light as fuck
Exactly! We need 650 scram
Well it's good for me if it's too light. 😅
The third reason is why I am considering this, I want a sleeper bike with ample performance without getting harrased at toll booth and in traffic.
👍🏼😂
So according to shumi da , duke 390 is an excellent tourer with less wheelbase even less space..😅
Yes, whereas Truimph isnt a tourer at all, the engine cant handle it. Think of it as an inter city tourer, or what GT 650 can give you.

4th reason is Shumi and Speed have S 😂
At this point, its just nit picking. Looks like a perfect bike for me
What this guy says, the bike exactly behaves the opposite way, wherever it goes, it’s being recognised, the power is really good, good that it’s compact, really flickable.
I've owned the bike the past 1 month and I can clearly see Shumi's bias towards Triumph due to his personal reasons as I disagree with every point here. Would've expected him to be unbiased and help his audience make an informed decision. Sad to see this happening.
Bro. He makes this set of videos for all his bikes. 3 reasons to get one, 3 reasons to not get one etc. if you want to hear what he actually thinks about the bike watch the longer review. Stop crying all the time.
@@campeador94 I watched the longer review when it came out. Reeks of bias. Maybe start using your head and start reading between the lines 🤔
Come on are you serious that point number 3 is biased?? I've seen speed 400 myself and it is so small that it looks like a toy when a 6 feet tall rider sits on this bike.

He didn't mention the price but the road presence which I agree it doesn't look like a 400cc motorcycle

bro if u got money first problem is solved and the rest is just nit pickings
Come on man , there is absolutely no problem for touring. In India it makes perfect sense. In no real words it is bland. This doesn't make any sense
These are the reasons to get this bike, more city friendly, compact and lightweight.... It's perfect for me though 😅
It is an attention grabber for sure. It's a conversation starter.
So disagreed on that point.
99% of buyers will buy this for commuting to office collage or simply to drink tea next street and cancel the Goa trip with frinends every 6 months 😂 the 3 reasons are for 1% gopro vlogers
3 reasons to not buy the speed 400 (real n not made up)
1. Extream value for money products are repulsive to u
2. You arent really into bikes and u just want the most plastic stuck to ur motorcycle
3. You want to get the scrambler 400
People like him cause confusion they say 50 goods point 50 bad points later on in end they say now its up to you to buy or no. 1st only they confuse alot and in end they say its up to you to buy or no. They make useless chaos in the name of review. Bike is a riding machine to enjoy and not for experiments and Judging it from every angle.
Thats why instead of watching several videos we must go to dealership have 1 or 2 or even 3 test rides and come to conclusion, talk to dealers and ask out ownership review from people.
A perfect form of review would be comparing this to an already existing bike in terms of percentage.
I have been watching a lot of 3 things videos and what I feel is we should not buy any motorcycle at all 😂😂😂

I suppose if the series were renamed to '3 reasons why someone might not want to buy' or better yet if you combine the 3 reasons to buy and not to buy into one short people will stop replying with dumb comments. People are more inclined to reply to negative content without fully understanding the context and we see a display of that here. Maybe the analytics support this, Im not sure.

Once a legend said, you dont ride spec sheet, you ride the bike. I totally agree with you shumi.
🤜🏽🤛🏽
Why you are so against to triumph speed 400??
If Triumph doesn’t like high rev performance which of its rivals does? Royal Enfield Classic 350? Or Hunter? Or Harley Davidson 440? Most bike get somewhat thrashy at high revs.
Triumph is touted and does have a so called short stroke high revving engine whereas royal enfield don’t claim to be high revving let alone they have a long stroke which just negates your point altogether.
Shumi should stop being biased so much
Stop doing motorbike reviews cause you know nothing about motorbikes totally negative feedback just because you guys were banned by triumph 😂😂 running this channel just for money 💰
Dont know why, right from launch of this vehicle, Shumi gave negative reviews to this bike and kept on nit picking. I own this bike and done 1200km on it with 800km touring. It’s a nice machine which can go 100km at 5500rpm in 6th gear. I did not rev much since I did not complete my first service. The bike has some vibes at 100+ kmph but I think they are due to non-completion of first service and they are never bothering or restraining the rider. They are expected and acceptable. Cruising at 110kmph is not a problem and I dont recommend to go at 160 or 150 speeds which are not practical for Indian roads as a sudden pot hole will put an end to life. Go ahead and buy this if u like it. Perfect urban and touring machine. The seat is also accomodating during touring and no issues there. I rode with a 21litre tail bag and it’s absolutely fine to go. Best motorcycle at that price for all round performance.
Top 3 reasons why you shouldn’t buy any single cylinder engine bike.
It's far better than Indian brands. India always provide cheap quality in bikes.

Shiraz damage is evident in the comments section. Team Motorinc, stay strong. This shall pass. But if there is any merit in the criticisms, please rectify them, because a great number of viewers and buyers still trust your advice.
I don't know what all the angry people in the comments section expect. Should this bike be appealing to every human on earth? Should no one have any reason to choose another bike over this?
