I'm glad that I was born with a very aggressive personality. A lot of kids that are abused experience withdrawal and turn inwards. I don't advocate for lashing out, but it is healthier...especially if you can lash out at the correct people. I was able to protect others because of it. I don't despise people that don't fight back, I remember being frozen like a deer in the headlights the first time I was afraid of my own parents. I remember fighting very hard the urge to run or remain frozen. The irony is bullies tend to be cowards. Not online trolls, not schoolyard movie tropes...real bullies. The kind that hone their craft to ruin people for their own insecurities. They can be anyone you think you know. They hide it very well.

I’d say that bullies are not only cowards, they’re weak. They dish out hell but can’t take a feather tap. It is the most discombobulating thing to witness. It feels like a joke in the moment. When we were teens, for a period of time my sister (I’m female - so this is about 2 sisters who are 1.5 yrs apart in age) would punch me (hard) in the arm in annoyance. It might happen multiple times through out a day. I told her to stop on a number of occasions. I remember finally getting fed up and punching her arm (hard) after she did it again. She looked soooo shocked and flinched/winced from the pain and actually said, “Ouch, that hurt” in an accusing voice. She was seriously offended that I HIT her. It was bizarre. You’re offended I hit you once and totally disregard the multiple times you’ve done that to me. I had to explain that’s how it felt when she hit me. She stopped doing it. Many would say her confusion was a manifestation of a lack of empathy but I think it’s more than that. Bullies lack the ability to see from another perspective - like, it’s a spacial thing and not just an emotional thing. I’d liken it to being color blind……or maybe they’re just plain stupid. Moral of the story: you have to whip a bully’s ass before you can teach them anything.

If you don't fight back you don't respect yourself, and if you don't respect yourself how do you expect others to respect you? Don't get me wrong, I hated my bullies, but their bullying was a useful life lesson that only outward aggression and assertiveness stop bullying, and expecting help from others won't solve your problems in the long run.

It is very true. I will add in my experience that if there are too many bullies, yes it is possible, all in one room, and yes they come in all shapes and sizes and yes most want to come out on top, it ends badly for them. They want to be in charge and boss others around but are surrounded by others who want the exact same thing. What happens if there is only room for one boss and only 1 of the 100 will get it? They sadly realize after learning this, and yes math is usually never their strong suit, usually it is emotional manipulation, hence the being coward on the inside thing, that they have nothing to go off of and have nothing else to offer. Narcissism is a part of who they are and in the long run they end up burning too many bridges and end up alone. No group of people to boss around, no one wanting to be around them. They end up even more deprived than when they were young and had the world at their finger tips. At that age almost everyone thinks they are unstoppable, but some know how to get back up and change when necessary. Compared to the average non-bully person, most bullies realize this when it is too late and nobody trusts them or thinks highly of them anymore. Sure that 1 out of a 100 might be living the dream or they might not. Or they lose it all eventually as well, their end is a sad one. At least in my experience, I am 37, almost 38, that is what I observed happen to them in the end.

@@CSmith-tn8nv My lil' brother was a golden child. I protected him from the worst aspects of my parents. I chose to be a lightning rod. He got a lil' entitled one day, and tried to blackmail me with lies to my parents about hitting him. When I said, "but I didn't hit you", he smirked and said, "I know" So I replied, "Well, I can't let you be a liar, now can I?" He got so shocked with that ass whooping. I was the one that raised him, not them. He's grown a lot since then and turned out to be the sweetest human being. I didn't like that I had to grow up so much as a child, but I'm at peace with it. My mom got pregnant while she was cheating on my dad. My dad never asked for a paternity test. Instead, I just got neglected and given hand me downs, less food, no opportunities, and no attention, paying bills in high school, etc. My mom followed suite, CT embarrassment and shame are powerful emotions.
Over the years I’ve been delighted by such moments as earning a full scholarship and my parents being surprised there was any possibility of that, being told I wasn’t in the will, being asked by them to pay my brothers bills, no birthday celebrations, and being told to pay rent or get out at 16, etc. I didn’t cut the cord completely until I was thirty, but barely saw them after leaving the house. Imagine not loving your baby because you arbitrarily decided (with no indicators) that they are worthless, regardless of how many times they prove you wrong. I cannot fathom not loving someone solely because the might not make heaps of cash, how shallow.
Why do his 'rents sound like investors, rather than family? They wanted something that would grant them status and prestige but because they were too incompetent to do so themselves they had kids instead to live vicariously through. IMO.

I am lucky enough to have parents that didnt show favoritism. My sister and I are close, and one day we compared notes. We discovered that we both thought at some point that the other was the golden child (during the cringy teen years) and subsequently that we realized neither of us was favored. I liked bigger, more expensive gifts, while my sister preferred smaller less expensive ones. She had many gifts while i typically got one or two at most. It was ALWAYS fair. I got exactly what i wanted and she what she wanted.
Our parents apologized (i think they overheard) and we laughed and said we didnt think they were unfair. We realized that years ago.

So much it carried down into the next generation that one of our children thinks she hates him . But that need for some to have a parent no matter what just seems to bypass the truth. At some point with crappy patients we need to come to the knowledge that they will never be the parent we need , want, or deserve. I figured this out in my 30’s . In a sea of posts where people don't change for the better, it's refreshing to hear one where people actually redeem themselves and learn to be better humans. ❤
At first when the parents asked OP to practically be a baby daddy stand in I scoffed. It's not his fault his sister was hoeing it up. But at the same time it is also not his sister's fault that she focused more on studies than working as they pushed that imbalance on her all her life.
The parents were opportunists which is why they thought sis was going to be the goose that laid the golden egg (technically she did but in a different way. Through giving them a grandchild. Not money.) People will never know their children's future no matter how they try to shape them. Some parents don't get the luxury of even seeing their child reach adulthood through unexpected death. Or a severe injury their child may get later in life causing them to be in a vegetative state where they were accomplished before said accident. Or, in OPs case, you ignore your childs needs thinking they will be a nobody and they grow to be SOME BODY! There are so many routes in our lives. Endless possibilities.
And in a sea of people who refuse to change, I'm glad his sister and parents humbled themselves and woke up to their misdeeds. Not only that but actually worked to better themselves.
I'm proud of OP for being so strong when he was knocked down so many times. And I'm glad his sister finally grew up and his parents got a grip! 🎉

Yep, psychology (and I use that term lightly since it's the american education complex) is one of the most popular certificates among girls, so there are huge flocks of female therapists.

You gotta suspend your disbelief and take these stories with a grain of salt sometimes. The more outrageous stories trying to convince you it's not fake after being repeatedly called out for being fake are the more obvious ones. With this one is grounded and could possibly be real as things like this happen. Though the ending did wrap up in a neat little bow so I lean towards might be fake but it's nice to think that someone actually got an apology from their shitty abusive family and is living a good life now so I'll let myself believe it's real lmao.

I don’t understand why the sister doesn’t consider an abortion in this situation. Neither her nor her parents were financially prepared, she doesn’t know how to reach the father as she doesn’t really know him and she’s still studying and without a job. I understand the hormones would make her want to keep it but it doesn’t make any logical sense.
Very glad things ended well for everyone tho
