    I was taking a picture of the upper part of Sagittarius (the teapot asterism) and I was amazed by the nebulae and star clusters near it. However, one stood out, which is M24. I tried to look deeper, and then searched pictures similar to what I took, turns out the center of the Milkyway is located right where my camera was pointing to. I was astonished, as it was my first Milkyway photo captured ever. I enhanced it in photoshop and the milkyway stood out. I am planning on capturing it again, but the weather doesn't seem to agree with me.

    Loved the video. Stellar job, pun intended :) Please dont stop making these videos. Loved the teapot finding exercise (never going to miss it in the sky now), detailed map of the objects in the constellation, details on the individual objects. A good addition to the video would be how to star hop to these objects and to other interesting objects and constellations. Where the open clusters and globular clusters (in halo) are found was something very interesting to learn.

    Sagittarius can be easily identified roughly as a question mark pointing west. Scorpio constellation, dead essy to identify, is to its west.
    Btw, there r some other constellation for easy identification eg Orion, Ursa Major, Corvus etc.

    I live on Vancouver Island and Sagittarius is way down low in the sky in the southeast direction. I was wondering if you knew where in the world you could stand and look up and see the constellation in the centre of the sky? I was thinking maybe Hawaii??

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  Před 4 lety +2

      Hello. Yes, Hawaii was the first place I observed Sagittarius in its entirety. I was able to see it in Pennsylvania were I grew up, but it was always close to the horizon. When I have observed it in Hawaii (the Big Island in particular), the skies are exceptionally dark, so the Milky Way was clearly visible as well.

    What's a dark sky sanctuary?

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  Před 5 lety +2

      A dark sky sanctuary are areas of land that have exceptional starry nights. They are often far away from sources of light pollution. Check out this website for more info:
      www.darksky.org/our-work/conservation/idsp/sanctuaries/
      My hope with doing this channel is to educate more people about the constellations so there is a movement to protect our night skies. With the rise in population, and the additional of LED lights in cities, dark skies are hard to come by these days. Thanks for watching!

      @learnthesky  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello, Yes, you should be able to see this in India during the summer months. It sits right in the Milky Way band across the sky, so look in that region to help you find it. It is also sitting close to Scorpius, which is fairly easy to ID. There is a website I use called in-the-sky.org/ and I like it because you can put your location into the website, and it will show you what the sky looks like in your own location.
