We have a p16 gen2 at work with the i9-13980HX and rtx3500 and that thing is a beast! No matter what you throw at it, it won’t overheat. And did i mention it has 128gb of ram? It’s a beast. We use it with the docking station that has the good old ethernet port and more display outputs than you’ll ever need
Where are you working at ?
Can it handle lenovo 4k monitor 34 inch curve easyly when we are working with Solidworks? Equal +10.000 piece part
Great review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Just bought one last week :)
What do you think so far? I'm also interested in this laptop
My AMD model comes with an ethernet port - love it. Great video review.
I suspect many (most?) users will use the thinkpad workstation as I do, with a dock and dual external monitors. The missing ethernet functionality is handled by the dock, and not missed on the road. I do have an ethernet dongle, still unused.
Yeah, but I have old P-series thinkpad at home and it has all ports possible, so I just pluged two monitors via hdmi and thunderbolt, lan and sd cards just like that.
Still use my trusty old W540 , i7 Nvidea 16gig 250ssd and 1Tb backup , the P16's grandaddy I suppose , love Lenovo's Thinkpads.
I'm looking for upgrade options from the W540 I use now. I love it and only wish battery lasted more than 3 hours. Screen and trackpad could be improved too.
Specwise, i7-4800MQ, Quadro K2100M, 16GB DDR3
Is this review considering user upgrades? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it is possible to replace the inbuilt ram options with recently released 48 gigabtye ram modules.
@BandH you got something wrong the max configuration for ram is not 128 it is 192 gigs of ram
Does it have the ethernet exit and the HDMI one?
Trackpad is the main reason I still look at Thinkpads, though the 4 ram slots and user-replaceable GPU is certainly appealing. However, I had to return this laptop as it wouldn't even fit into my large backpack. It's just that bulky, unfortunately.
I have Thinkpad P16 gen 1 display 4K OLED, when i set up 'High performance' for browsers Edge, Opera, Chrome in Graphic setting (It means using GPU Hybrid mode for browsers), display has flicker when scroll down/up facebook news feed, could you check this one with your laptop? Is there the same flicker?
I hate that the P16 doesn't have an ethernet jack. I have real-time applications that need an onboard nic, I have a thunderbolt nic on order to see if I can keep the laptop.
Good video, RAM and SSD images and caption are reversed.
Would the P16 Gen 2 or the just released P16v Gen2 workstation be suitable for running music production software such as Presonus or other DAW to record and produce home recorded music? Thanks!
Both the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 and P16v Gen 2 would be more than capable of running a DAW such as PreSonus Studio One. ThinkPads make excellent portable audio workstations in general, as they are sturdy, reliable, and can be configured with abundant RAM to handle large sessions.
Thanks very much for your quick and informative response. Not only does the B&H website have excellent information, it is great to discover your excellent CZcams channel. In Canada, the P16v Gen 2 higher end configuration is available with a Ultra 7 155H or Ultra 9 185H processor, 32 or 64 GB maximum of RAM, 1 TB max. of RAM, and either a RTX 2000 or 3000 graphics card. Do you think 64 GB of RAM be abundant enough, and would the RTX 2000 or the 3000 graphics card be more suitable? I'm hoping it will come on sale at some point soon :) Thanks again.
help me choose..
P16 gen 2 ..or... P1 gen 6
yeah the naming convention really sucks here.. thx Lenovo
I mainly gonna use it for game developing (Unreal Engine and Unity), maybe some video processing too..

Are these customizations all upgradable after purchase?
The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 2's RAM and storage drive are user-upgradeable, but the CPU, GPU, and other components cannot be modified.
@@BandH so its best to get the best gpu and cpu at purchase
no LAN port! WTF
The only reason I won't buy one. I'm holding off until the next generation specifically for this.
I have Gen 2 with 13950HX, it is not performing better than gaming laptops. The RAM speed is limited, cpu TDP is set lower than similar spec laptops. Very disappointing
Thinkpads are workstations meaning that you might get a little less raw performance but reliability, build quality and compatibility with your software are the biggest concerns for the manufacturers. We are comparing a military grade machine with a laptop full of rgb😂❤
@@AleTraviyes, they don't advertise P16 as a Games machine.
