Also in England, chants are never rehearsed or planned. It usually starts by someone witty at an away game which then gets picked up by other fans. Sometimes it gets shared on social media which popularises it. Then after a few weeks, everyone knows it and joins in when heard

That Aberdeen European Cup win is Fergies greatest achievement hands down. A lot of what he accomplished with United (at least domestically) was somewhat easier as the prem wasn't really that competitive til the early/mid 2000's for the 10 years prior to that it was a case of United winning the league and there was a lot of competition for the other top 4 places.

As you can see in the replies King Boomer, there's a lot of nasty southern twats who wanted to see a city of 500,000 men women and children, hard working, working-class people, go into poverty without help. Not only that, she wanted it to happen. She wanted homes and business to close. She wanted the docks, the source of employment for Liverpool for 200 years before she was born, to starve and die. And you have twats on here saying "half of northerners are unemployed", or the chant in the video "could be worse, could be scouse, eating rats in a council house"
They're are genuinely prejudiced against us, there are many stores about us being thieves, during Hillsborough, where 97 Liverpool fans died, the police, Thatcher, and the papers blamed Liverpool fans, made lies up that we pissed on our own dead on the pitch and robbed their corpses.
Decades later, they still hate us. Pathologically, they hate Liverpool, they hate the football club, and the club is a lightening rod for their hate.
So what about Thatcher? Was she right? Was she fuck. Liverpool is a thriving city, generates culture, economic growth support families, jobs, and community. We've been the host of European capital of culture in 2008, and will hold the Eurovision song contest next year. We have bands play in our 2 stadiums in the city all year around, we are a music captial of the UK, and there is soon to be a 3rd brand new £500m stadium built soon.
My family, my friends, good people, have all made and lived full lives in Liverpool since Thatcher. We work, we pay tax, and we are hated for it. For being poor and different. Complain about any of this, you're a victim. So they can have the vile hatred and lies of Thatcher, and if you dare speak about to your upper-class Tory peers, you're a victim. She wanted to kill and destroy us, and we stood up and fought against her. We're still here. We won't be put into managed decline, we won't be lied about, and we won't take shit and lies off cunts on here.

A lot of the chants and the more boisterous atmospheres are from the away supporters, so to experience it you’d have to buy the tickets from the away (visiting) team. Because that team is away they will only get a small allocation of the tickets which that club will often give out on a priority basis to season ticket holders (and often on a loyalty basis) before it goes to a general sale. For many clubs demand is high amongst season ticket holders that many away games don’t get as far as going on general sale.

These chants often start during away games where you travel well lubricated on a bus with a bunch of mates. So first it has to spread to about 50 people. So then you go on singing it in the away section and if it's good enough it'll catch on with other die hard fans who also didn't shy away from the booze. And since most of them are die hard fans they often have season tickets in the same sections at the home games, and that is where it takes off. New chants rarely start at home games, but when they do they're often so good that people can't stop themselves from instantly joining in. It's like a wave when you start a chant, either it goes or it dies out. But there's no feeling like getting a 40k crowd to follow you.

Most chants are well known, and people do work out and develop new ones (i.e., plan them before the game), but they always start with one guy just shouting them out a few times and others joining in. So, they are not rehearsed. Some chants just don't get taken up by the crowd. There is also plenty of improvisation. A good example of that is the 'We're having a party when Fergie dies' changing into 'Jelly and ice cream when Fergie dies'. Probably, somebody just thought of that on the go and began singing that instead of the original words, and others then joined in.

Maggie Thatcher was prime minister at the time and backed the police up. To this day The people of Liverpool refuse to buy the newspaper. I was recently in Liverpool and came accross a bench that said 'If you are seen to be reading the Sun on this bench you will be forceably removed from this park'. The number 1 chant was about Margaret Thatcher being Prime Minister at the time there was a police cover up over the blame of 97 Liverpool fans being killed at a match at the Hillsborough stadium, the police blamed the fans but it was the police chief who ordered a gate to be opened which allowed fans without tickets to rush into the stadium forcing the fans who were already in the ground to be crushed up against a 7 foot high steel fence and the 97 fans the youngest was 10 and the oldest victim was 67, died of crush related injuries. Some people in Liverpool believe Margaret Thatcher was part of a cover up that denied the families of the deceased justice, this had now happened to some degree but proper punishments were never metered out to those responsible, some senior police officers were allowed to retire early an very generous pensions, and by the time the truth came out had died. Hence the chant with the vans being quite happy that Maggie had died.

'Brass' is Cockney rhyming slang for 'prostitute'. Cockney rhyming slang works by taking a pair of words that rhyme with the word you want slang for - e.g. 'apples and pears' = stairs, 'dog and bone' = 'phone', etc. To make it extra difficult to understand, you then drop the rhyming part - e.g. 'apples' = stairs, 'dog' = 'phone'. In this case, the full rhyme is 'brass flute'.
Cockney rhyming slang was originally a type of thieves' cant - coded speech used by criminals so that police or informants listening in wouldn't understand what was being said, but eventually became so well-used that it was no longer fit for that purpose and became normal slang.
