- A tornado ripped through Western Pennsylvania, shredding rooftops, shattering windows and even tearing down a church steeple. The National Weather Service preliminarily rated the twister an EF-2 with wind speeds of 118 miles per hour. NBC News’ George Solis has more.

In the suburbs just outside of Pittsburgh we got the emergency tornado warning. But only had some strong winds and no tornadoes thankfully. So glad these people are okay.

Pennsylvania actually averages roughly 20 (mostly weak) tornadoes per year. Strong ones do occasionally hit. See for instance, May 31, 1985.

Me, too! Grew up there in Weirton, WV and we never had a tornado! So scary!

You clearly don't know how taxes or anything else for that matter works. A tornado siren costs on average $25,000, so for a village of 250, that's $100 EACH for the residents. So for a family of 4, $400 on average. A weather radio cost as little as $30, and is MUCH better heard in a house unless you're within a block or two of the siren. They can also send out alerts to your phone. You can't put enough sirens in a rural area to be heard, and the noise from wind and rain drowns out sirens even more. WHY do you need the government to do everything for you, when you should be taking care of that yourself??????????

My Brother lives in Bridgeville. I havent heard anything. I was there like 6 yrs ago from So Cal visiting and we were coming back into PA from W VA. And a Tornado had made land fall in Lebanon, PA where my sister in law works. Bridgeville isnt too far away there was a lot of downed trees in his neighborhood though

I understand what your saying. I go to this church (I was not in the church at the time of the tornado) and I think that it was not God punishing us ( though it could always be a possibility) it was a test from God to see how other Christians would react and help out. Or it could be God simply punishing us like a father punishing a misbehaving child.

It’s tornado season. PA, on average, gets usually sees the most tornado activity in June, but it’s been a warm spring in this part of the country.
