      Agreed, for 1936 it's excellent - good to 15 kHz, and no discernible surface noise.

      He was mainly a violinist but he did compose small pieces, however many other well known violinists like Heifetz and Stern only played but never composed their own pieces.

    Well, folks . . . foul-mouthed, tattooed, ignoramous "Rock Stars" think they're hot stuff today
    (look at all the recent wailing over this dead druggie, Winehouse), but Kreisler had an International fan base 100 years ago!
    After his death, his wife related something revealing he'd once said: "You know, if I had just practiced more, I could have been a GREAT violinist!"
    Just shows that the TRULY great ones are always searching for improvement.

      MrGary164 Well, while you can appreciate good classic music, you can't mock "Foul rock stars" just cause it's not yours taste. Styles change, genres born, people like new things. Can't stay in the past and reject everything new, right?

      You sound like an old fart. Believe it or not, it is possible to like more than one idiom of music, or is that too much for your little fragile worldview. Quit gatekeeping, people like you give real musicians a bad name

  • @connie_4154
    @connie_4154 Před 10 lety +5

    there are many versions on this piece, however, Kreisler himself did not bring the life of this composition. I personally prefer Heifeitz; or the more recent David Garrett version.

    • @MrFpam
      @MrFpam Před 9 lety +33

      You can prefer whoever you like, but of course Kreisler understands and interprets his own piece better than anyone else. Some are more virtuosic but none capture the Viennese charm for which Kreisler was so famous.

    • @Odnilga
      @Odnilga Před 9 lety

      +Frank Pam Sorry to disagree. He was a talented composer, but his interpretation does not depend on his understanding of his own piece, but on his talent as an interpreter, and I find David Garrett's interpretation to be way better.

    • @MrFpam
      @MrFpam Před 9 lety +16

      ***** That is actually nonsense. Of course his understanding of his own piece is vital and he was a superb interpreter of this style of Viennese music. But there is no point in arguing about taste. If you prefer David Garrett that is your right and nothing I say can convince you otherwise. You and connie obviously have a different expectation as to how this piece should be played.

    • @MrFpam
      @MrFpam Před 9 lety +10

      Frank Pam By the way, don't forget that this is a recording from 1936, so the tone quality doesn't compare to a modern recording.

    • @paulbjarnason969
      @paulbjarnason969 Před 7 lety +2

      Agreed, on all points above. Once you hear Kreisler play his own lovely little Viennese pieces, no one else compares. Yes, Heifetz is technically phenomenal, as Kreisler was one of the first to emphatically note, but the feeling conveyed by Fritz is incomparable, as many a fine violinist since has admitted. (And as for David Garrett, honestly -- the less said the better.)

      @musicclassic5938 Před 6 lety +6

      Give me a break: Rachmaninoff placed Kreisler above Jascha Heifetz, let alone Maxim who has wonderful technique, but he does not have that Viennese posh saloon style of playing with amazing portamentos.

    • @marcvilleneuve1889

      There are several versions of Kreisler. That one is a late one. Vengerov is good, but younger Kreisler 's versions, he does not reach that level at all. Vengerov is also quite inferior to David Oistrach entire legacy. You cannot compare him to giants such as Heifetz, Kreisler, Oistrach or Kogan.

    • @marcvilleneuve1889
      @marcvilleneuve1889 Před 3 měsíci

      @@musicclassic5938 Even Heifetz put Kreisler above him. This is a late version. Kreisler is old. Vengerov or any other never played that masterpiece better than Kreisler himself. The earlier versions show Kreisler in full command.
